I was hoping that people who have been taking B5 could put my mind at rest. I've been taking 10 gms a day for nine days now and I've had the worst break out. My skin looks awful. I was taking minocycline for 8 months which seemed to prevent the really huge cyst like spots but I was stil prone to rash like outbreaks of small whiteheads across my cheeks. I had big hopes for B5 but this break out is worrying me as my skin is looking as bad, if not worse, than it did before taking minocycline. I've also read a number of posts on a couple of the other boards on this site which have been largely negative with most people saying it hasn't worked for them at all.

I'd like to think that there is something in this theory as I'm 30 now and have suffered with acne for several years so if anyone can put my mind at ease that this break out is a short term temporary thing and that B5 can actually work then that would be great. If I'm just wasting my time then I'd like to know that too!

I had to stop taking B5 after my doctor advised me that it's long term effects have NOT been studied carefully enough. So to anyone who wants to go the B5 route, consult your doctor/physician/derm first before you jump the gun. I know B5 has worked wonders for some, but not for me. I had frequent stomach problems while I was on the B5 regimen (drank LOTS of water (3 litres or so)), frequent diarrhea  (so inconvenient, took the pills with food too), and the idea of popping 20 pills a day just isn't a convenience to me if done for an extended period.

Well, the idea is that you shouldn't have to take 10 grams a day for very long, so I wouldn't be too concerned about long-term consequences. It's impossible for your body to store too much B5. My father's a Doctor, btw.

I've known my doc for over 7 years already. He's aided me in so many ways, and I trust his advice pertaining to this topic. He approves my use of Dan's CSR, and I know this acne of mine will be a thing of the past.

Hi guys, i've been taking B5 along with some other vitamins. So far i am impressed with the results. I would say my acne is mild to moderate but since ive taken the vitamins i havn't had a breakout (I know, i know, i hope im not speaking too soon). Its been about a week and i think i have one had one tiny whitehead and thats down to my recent shave. Hey guys, you know that feeling you get in your face, when you can tell there's some new acne coming up, well i am waking up everymorning expecting to feel and find some new acne to come up but so far none have appeared. My skin can get pretty oily in the morning but there are no new spots. Fingers crossed that this is my cure.

Here's what im taking for all you fellow sufferers;

Im on minocycline i take that everymorning an hour before breakfast.

And im taking Vitamins B3, B5 and Vitamin E with my evening meals. The vitamins i bought well my sis did from a GNC store in the UK.

Here's some background info on my acne. Last month i decided to go back on bp after some several months departure from it. My skin wasn't as dreadful as i thought it was then, so i decided "let's go for it again". My skin took the toll from the effects of bp and it improved slightly but not enough for it to warrant my approval as a long term treatment for me.

I quit the BP about 3 weeks ago due to my skin getting too dry and it looked like i got a tan but only on my cheeks.

Guys i only found out about the vitamins online through some reasearch on Acne.org and on some other sites.

So far so good. I hope this post helps you guys. Have a try with the vits im taking. It may or may not work for you but there's no harm in trying. Im off to stock up on some vits, i'll be going on a 3month vacation and im leaving on monday. Good luck guys

It's the antibiotic minocycline that's halting your acne, not the B5 or anyother food supplement!

I can assure you, i've been on and off mino for quite a while and it has improved my acne but not like it has since i have started taking these vitamins.

I can remember the 1st time taking the mino it took about 3 weeks to show significant improvement but i still had new acne appearing. Right now its been around week so far that i have been taking the vits in conjuction with the mino and all i can say its is not just the mino that is "halting" my acne. I mean my skin has improved, but it has never been clear when i have been taking the mino. Since these vits i have no acne [no new and the old ones have gone] just scars from previous ones which are fading.

has anyone tried "ALL in 1" B5 acne treatment from www.acne-vitamins.com?

u only need to take 2 -3 pills/day instead of 10+. It uses time-release formula ensuring an even and effective intake of vitamin B5 over the course of the day. This is so great that we dun have to pop B5 pills every other hour to absorb enough B5 to combat acne.

60 days money back guarantee as usual...^_^

anyone tried that?

i am taking MANY supplements a day..so I just can't use the traditional B5 method..(i am taking like 10+ pills a day)

ive been on B5 for the past 3 months and i can honestly say it has deffinelty helped...for all those of you who cant be bothered popping 10-15 pills a day theres a guy on ebay who sells B5 in powder form.....all you need to do is take 1 teaspoon, 3 times a day with a drink. Costs about AA17 i think incl p&p and lasts for about a month..

ps; i have no connection with the ebay seller and am not endorsing him at all.

I havent tried it myself (I don't really need anything more than a maintainence dose these days), but I do know of people that have used as little as 2 grams per day with other time-release B5 tabs and gotten good results. Another thing to consider if you really don't want to take all the pills is the powder form, as the poster above mentioned.

I would say that B5 is pretty useless. It never ever made me dry and instead gave me horrible diarrhea and I took it for a little more than 2 months. That may not have been long enough for it to work, but I had not the slightest bit of improvement at all. If you have persistent, bad acne I suggest you try something else.

hi all, first time poster. i just started doing b5 too. i was intrigued by dr. leung's original article and decided to give it a shot. i get alot of clogged pores, whiteheads, pustules, few cysts, etc. also have extremely oily skin/hair, i mean its ridiculous my skin is so oily. have had acne since i was 14-15 or so (24 now), and have taken:

tetracycline

doxycycline

minocycline

erithromycin

azelex

differin

some sulfa drug, think it was septra?

accutane (twice)

so basically my skin is just oily as shit and its showing no signs of letting up as i get older, plus my skin prob doesnt exfoliate right so i always have pretty bad acne. at one point my acne was so bad, you could hardly see the skin on my face lol. its like those worst-case scenario pictures you see on medical websites illustrating a disease--that was me. but that was a long time ago, accutane cleared my up back then for about a year, and 8 years later..........

anyways, i started taking b5 2 days ago, vilantae brand, about 8-10g a day. doing it in doses of 2x500mg throughout the day so as to avoid taking a whole bunch at once and just pissing most of it out right afterwards. also taking a regular multivitamin and an omega3 fatty acid supplement. seems a lil early to say anything just yet, but i will keep everyone informed on my progress. i'd really like to see b5 do something for my super-oily skin. right after i started taking b5 i broke out pretty bad (about 10 whiteheads, 2 pustules) around my mouth/chin area but stuff like that doesnt phase me much. also noticed my lip/mouth area being rather dried out last night so this all seems consistent with what other people have reported.

alright so its been about a month since i started taking b5. hate to say it, but im off it now. my skin went from bad to really bad during the time i took b5--constant breakouts, lesions that wouldnt go away, and no oil reduction at all. i tried to stay with it as long as i could to give it the benefit of the doubt, but im not sure i would have been able to make it another week lol.

i cant say for certain that the b5 was what triggered all of the increased outbreaks. but given the timing and the fact that they have decreased in the last few days that i stopped taking b5, its hard for me not to make a connection. aside from my lips which kinda dried out (??) i can say for sure that it certainly didnt reduce any of my oil production.. if anything it has gone up this last month. i know for some people it takes longer to kick in, but damn, 4-5 whiteheads and 3-4 cysts every other day was getting ridiculous lol. maybe my oil production is just way to high to begin with. oh well, good luck to those of you who are doing it.

ok so i started taking vilantae b5, first week into it things seems promising i guess, but now im into my third week taking 15 tablets a day and i can say with all assurance it aint done jack. still have a lot of oil production, mild acne on my forehead as usual, ive been drinking 2-3 liters a water a day also and im just assuming that this is all flushing it out. i will keep with the b5 and water for another 2 months and keep u guys updated but so far.... no new improvements whatsoever!:pray:

Just to let everyone know B5 doesn't work for everyone just up to 80-85 percent of people it works.

I tried it and did nothig for acne. You may want to try the powder version as it might work better since it goes straight to your blood stream

Also it's quite common that B5 users start seeing real improvement in the second month (and sometimes longer). If you go into it planning to quit in less than 4 weeks you're making a mistake. The fact is most acne treatments take this long to work, even topical stuff like Proactiv doesn't help many people until after they've been using it for a while. Accutane is the same way (from what I've read here, I haven't actually used it myself) ... most users report that even with a prescription medication like that, many people take a while before really getting clear. There's no "quick fix" that will permanently cure you...

I think a lot of people suffer with acne for so long because they never bother to stick with a single product for more than 2-3 weeks. Constantly hitting your skin with something new can't be a good idea.

Read the previous threads. I'd start with 5 grams, as that's all I ever needed and it's not bad when you compare it with 20 ^_^. However, it's different for everyone. Some people need 20 and some get great results with only 2. Remember that you can lower your dosage after a while.

B5 had a weird effect on me...

At first it really cleared me up. I saw results in like 2 days of use! It was amazing... Then several weeks after, while I'm still mostly clear (still taking 5 mg or so per day) my pores appear bigger than ever. :(

It also makes me hair feel thinner and i think made the skin a bit more sensetive...

i think it's great to take as a supplement but can't be relied on as a treatment...

Just wanted to give everybody my account of how the B5 treatment is going to add data into our little "data pool" here on B5s.

im actually taking this product named vilantae, bought it because "alt81" and a couple others thought it wouldnt be a bad idea, and its actually been extremely noticeable on what it does.

i say "what it does" because its working in like the stragest way for me.

first of all, my skin has like no oil. now.. i don't know if thats me washing my face 3-5 times a day with soap(which really really helps me) or just vilantae, but either way i have like no oil in my face. Eventually, that caused some itching on my face, then i scratched, and you guessed it... acne. So i got acne in everywhere i scratched due to this itching, but acne relatively stayed in control, and the ones that developed QUICKLY went away within 3 days (used to take 2 weeks, for cysts even longer.) I've had HUGE breakout on my right cheek with like 5 cysts, but then that also went away relatively quickly (except 1 of em...urgh) but either way.. i guess i'll get to the point

So far i've been on it for a month and after around 450 consumption of pills, and i think it actually does control your oil to an extreme level, so im planning to start moisturizing now. Hopefully this is the answer since I heard that 2nd month is where you REALLY see results... lets see what this is all about.

Is it safe to restart the 10 gram dosage after I finished my 3 month treatement and went on a 6 g a day maintanence dosage for like 4 or 5 month now. But now I'm starting to get more acne so I want to go back to taking more.

Hey guys. Since starting my B5 treatment on Nov 2.. ive been waking up with a new white head every other day. I also got a cyst on my neck which hasnt gone away yet. ive never experienced this before taking B5. so my question is should i stop my treatment or is this normal? its very frustrating to wake up every morning and find a new pimple(s) :wall:
