Hey People,

Is it bad to take B5 when I am on supplyments? I am currently taking creatine once a day for workouts. So when I get my B5 should I discontinue my creatine workouts? Or is it ok to take both?

Found this at drugs.com and it's medical info on oily skin. If it's true then I don't understand how b5 and a low fat diet can help.. What do you think ?

I've had acne for 10 years (since puberty). Kids in school thought I always had chicken pox -- but no, it was my acne sad.gif. Up through college, there were school days I'd skip because my skin was bad.

Last year I tried doxicycline. That worked, but I was vomiting every day for 8 months. It was so hard to keep the pill down. Finally after 1 year, my body became used to it and the oilynes slowly came back.

I was considering Accutane, but I was pretty scared of the "side effects" tongue.gif.

Now, for 5 days, I have been taking 10 mgs of pantothenic Acid. I usually get 15-20 new pimples a day, but I noticed that no new ones had developed by the 3,4 or 5th day. Also, after a party, I went into the bathroom to go wash my face-- expecting my face to be soaked with oil like usual (my bangs usually skick to the oil) -- but it was as dry as the other skin on my body. So there is definitely a change in my skin. AND it happened within 3 days of taking the vitamin. (Strange, eh?)

I can understand how "heredity" contributes to acne. My mom has always said everyone in my family has a deficiency of B Vitamins (We have all th symtoms of lacking other B vitamins). We have always had to take the B-complex vitamins. However, I guess we weren't getting enough b5. Now that I realize it, everyone young has very very oily skin and acne.

I'll update you in the next few weeks smile.gif

Why do you think that it sucks? I am thinking of beginning a b5 regimen to decrease the excessive oiless of my face, so any advice would be great.

"Dr Leung" goes from past tense to present, then admits that he never completed the test.

This article originally appeared in the scientifically prestigious Journal of Orthromolecular Medicine Vol. 12 Number 2, 1997.

One hundred patients of Chinese descent were included in the study, 45 males and 55 females. The age ranged from 10 to 30, and with about 80% between 13 and 23. The severity of the disease process varied. They were given 10 grams of pantothenic acid a day in four divided doses. To enhance the effect, the patients were also asked to apply a cream consisting of 20% by weight of pantothenic acid to the affected area, four to six tines a day. With this treatment regimen, the response is as prompt as it is impressive. There is a noticeable decrease in sebum secretion on the face usually 2-3 days after initiation of therapy. The face becomes less oily. After two weeks, existing lesions start to regress while the rate of eruption of new acne lesions begins to slow down. In cases with moderate severity, the condition is normally in complete control in about eight weeks, with most of the lesions gone and new lesions only to erupt occasionally. In those patients with severe acne lesions, complete control may take months, sometimes up to six months or longer. In some of these cases, in order to get a more immediate response, it may even be necessary to step up the dose to 15-20 grams a day

I don't know about taking B5 orally but putting it on topically has really made my skin smoother. I needed a good moisturizer and SKinCeuticals has a B5 gel. You put just a little with some aloe gel or other moisturizer and it is honestly the best thing ever. it's especially great if benzoyl peroxide dries you out.

I started taking b5 a little over a year ago and am happy to say that I have pretty much stayed clear since. I had mild to moderate acne and very oily skin. After about 3 months of taking 10g per day of b5 I have slowed down to about 1-2g a day. My skin is still oily but my acne has gone. Whats wierd is that the worst breakouts I had were when I was on 10g of b5 per day.The only side affects I noticed were piss color and hunger.Good luck to all of you with your b5.

It's a little far fetched to say that everyone on the board who has something good to say about B5 is trying to "move merchandise."

Seriously, B5 is a vitamin. You can buy it ANYWHERE tha sells vitamins, and you can buy ANY BRAND - it doesn't really matter (IMO). Most of us that it worked for are encouraging people to go out and try the vitamin, not pushing some corporate brand name (now take a look at the rest of the board...).

If it had worked for you as well as it did for me, you might want to tell someone about it as well. If it didn't, sorry to hear that, but don't start bashing everyone else on the board as if you're the only honest person here. Last time I checked, none of the sites selling it claim 100% effective for all people...

Has anyone tried taking B5 in powder form? I bought a big tub of it from ebay the other day because I didn't like the idea of taking loads of pills a day. Plus it was a lot cheaper, I got a month's supply for AA14.99. But I haven't been taking it long enough to notice a change. Just wondered if anyone had tried B5 this way!

After i went off the pill my face broke out soo bad.

My doctor told me to tell everyone to start taking B5, Calcium and basically a mutlivitamin to help get my hormonal levels back to normal....sounds about right....most acne problems arent just on your skin!
