I've read so many posts from people who took B5 and claim that it didn't help all that much or it made their skin worse. What I noticed though is that most of these people didn't take the recommended dose (10g a day) or didn't take it very consistently (4 times 5 caps a day with regular time intervals). I was wondering if there is anyone on here who took 10g of B5 regularly and for the recommended 3 months. And whether or not that person experienced any success with it.
I started about a week ago and I am being very strict. I don't have any side effects yet. However, since I am still on antibiotics, I can't really tell whether B5 is doing anything at this point. I am not breaking out, just a few irregularities here and there. My skin does feel smoother though, especially on my cheeks. I only have acne on my chin (cystic) but the rest of my face looks pretty much great.
We'll see. I am just scared to stop taking antibiotics and dread something like an 'initial breakout.'
Hey all,
Ive been using B5 for just over a month now, and am beginning to see results. My skin is less oily and i have had fewer breakouts. My already exsisting acne has subsided and my skin feels a lot smoother.
After 2 weeks i started to lose hope as so many people have claimed that they saw results within days, however i persisted with the recommended dosage and am now beginning to see results. For anyone out there just starting and havent seen any results yet dont lose hope! I also started using Retin-a cream on my face a week ago so this may be helping aswell.
Roll on the next couple of months!
okay. question for you guys, i've just started on mino(last night, in fact) and a topical cream erythro+tretinoin cream (stievamycin) ~for like two weeks now, i'm taking a probiotic pill, a liver-cleansing pill, grapeseed extract pill (i'm a happy pill popper!). i've just spent the better of 30 minutes reading through all the posts. so, my question is, should i quit mino now (as i've heard it can potentially make acne come back WORSE than before) and start on a B5 + B Complex regimen? please respond, anyone?
[+edit] also, where are the all the b5 acne pioneers? how are things with you guys?
Diet. I'm already a vegan and don't eat any sugar, trans fats or processed food. I gave up wheat to see what that will do. I also drink about 100 oz or more of water a day, and also cut WAY back on coffee... I used to have a cup a day, now I have some maybe once a week.I am also taking liver building/detoxifying herbs, rotating between blue flag, sarsaparilla, burdock, milk thistle, dandelion. I just buy a couple of different tincture with combos of these herbs and rotate them every couple of weeks or so. I have been taking oil of oregano and probiotics; just in case I have candida, though I don't really think I do. I take fish oil, and use flax oil on my salads.
I just finished doing the oxypowder bowel cleanse and I'm not really sure how effective that was.. at cleansing my bowels, that is.
I've also started being more vigilant about my daily yoga, since I realized my acne coincided with my going back to school.
So far I've been able to stay clear, except now I have one zit forming (1st one since quitting b5), so I hope it's not a sign of things to come.
oookay. everybody seems to be busy. it's cool. well, i have just started taking b5 (250mg) so, i'm basically taking twelve tablets. 6 daytime /6 night time, as per recommended initial dosage. i'm hoping for the best. right now, my face has cleared up, altho' not totally, i still have a few bad cysts going on. i'm hoping that using this, in conjunction with antibiotic + probiotic + liver pills + grape seed pills + b complex + vitamin C would help my acne, i'm taking a topical stievamycin as well. I HAVE been through a lot. I had radically changed my diet not too long ago and i think that had really helped in clearing me up. i'm hoping to g-d it's not candida. i've stopped eating wheat + sugar + anything that candida feeds on. sigh. well, will update in a few days/weeks.

In a strange way I am still worried about not having any side effects. I also don't know what is happening with my skin as I only recently stopped taking my antibiotics. For how long do antibiotics continue to work after you stop taking them?
As for the B5, all I have noticed is that my pee turned to neon/bright yellow. Could it be that my body is not absorbing any of the 10g? I do take it with a meal, but even if I take it without food, my stomach doesn't get upset at all. Neither do I crave food more.
I started B5 exactly 2 weeks ago.
I'd really appreciate any kind of input. Thank you!
Hi Phantasmic,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I rarely check the other forums than diet.
Anyway, all I can do is tell you what I do and you have to make the decision from there. Personally, I wouln't touch any antibiotics. I also don't use anything topically except for a gentle face wash ONCE a day that has a small amount of AHA, but is otherwise all natural, and jojoba oil at night to moisturize. I've just found that my skin looks better all around the less harsh things I put on it.
So, I guess you know my diet/supplement routine. The one thing that slowly returned after I quit the b5 is the small clogged pores. So awhile ago, I started taking just 2g of B5/day to see if that would help them stay away, but it hasn't really. When I first started taking B5 back in Jan, I had them extracted and then the B5 kept them away, so I'm going next week to have them extracted again. I feel pretty good though, because I very rarely get an inflamed zit anymore, and if I do, they're tiny and go away quickly. I think this is due to my diet not being inflammatory.
Catherine,
It's GOOD that the B5 isn't causing you problems. As for the yellow pee, you should drink enough water to make it not yellow. The extra calcium in d-calcium pantothenate (b5) can be tough on your kidneys, so drink enough water to flush them out. I drink about 100 oz a day even though I only take 2g, and I think that contributes to my success as well.
For the first 3 days, you will want to take a dosage of 5 grams a day. This is a total of 10 pills a day. It is good to have it spread out throughout the day, so it might be good to take 5 pills in the morning, and 5 pills at night.
When the 3 days are up, you will be moving up the full 10 gram dosage. This will mean 20 pills a day. Again, you will want to have a steady supply of B5 throughout the day, so taking it in intervals is important. You will be taking 5 pills, 4 times a day. It is very key to be as consistent as you can.
?
if i see results within the 5 pills in the morning, and 5 pills at night do i still have to go to the full 10 gram dosage ?
so once i see results do i cut back to the 5 pills in the morning, and 5 pills at night ?
if i dont take vitamin B complex vitamins will this be harmful to my health ?......im poor so .....
junkeroos
....on the Mega Multiple III...is this all i need to take instead of the vitamin B5...or do i have to take the vitamin B5 dosage plus the Multiple III vitamins ?...if so how much pills do i take Mega Multiple III with the B5 dosage?
im new here ...happy to be here ..thanks in advance

You should take B5 at consistant times throughout the day i.e. 4x5pills (depending on pill size 500mg per pill to achieve 10g per day) every say 3 1/2 hrs (if ur awake say 14hrs a day).......that way your body will absorb the supplement better as it has less to absorb at any one time. You are also getting a constant release using this method instead of it being flushed away!
Ive started taking B5 a 10days ago and havnt really seen any dramatic changes, skin oil has decreased a little. Not sure whether my pores have shrunk a little but my blackhead (nose mainly) are looking better. Ive also been taking Vit-C 1-2g a day,Multivitamin, avoiding too much dairy, sugar and exercising 15mins a day(oxygen to the skin helps).
My acne has definately improved over the last 10days in conjunction with an acne lamp ive bought 30mins a day (posted a topic regarding its effectiveness but nobody has replied as yet - blue and red light wavelengths). I very gently exfoliate my face 3 times a week (nivea for men face scrub - tiny microbeads followed with a tea tree steaming)
I personally dont like the idea of dans regimen, it may produce results in a reddish fashion but isnt good for your skin at all! Its hard for my to consider the idea of permantly damaging and burng my skin constantly and masking the results with moisturizer to avoid the devastating reality of your skins condition. Given it does prevent blemishes but you end up with a red face and i would need proof the redness subsides in photos to believe it. However i do use a light coating of BP 2.5% on prone areas when blemishes arise followed with some aloe vera gel (99.9% aloe vera). Lavender also helped my red marks fade, applying before bed.
ok thanks for the reply...i have noticed i´m not only getting spots (small white heads) on my forehead, i´m getting small "spots" / whiteheads all over my face...they are hardly noticable but they irritate me...:/ I really hope that this is only an initial breakout...( I hope you can read this.. )
9 days in. I got a couple of small white heads (whatever to call it) on my legs..of all the places. Only one on my face. I take 20 pills + 2 of b-complex, 3 x day in total. Skin still oily on my forehead and nose.. gets oily within 5-6 hours which is slight improvement. Got small headaches the first week but nothing else.. I also try to eat healthier (less fat food and no cola). I work-out a lot, which you'd think would keep all the fat oily stuff off my face..
Really hope for more improvement!
Been on B5 (evolution-x - extortion or what!) for nearly 2 weeks, my face is looking much better it has to be said, but ive used the supplements in conjunction with other things i.e. acne lightbox, better diet and more vitamins and less harsh chemichals on my face (thats what made it worse!!!)
Skin is less oily, i think, but it does say you have to wait at least a month to see beneficial results.....so im hoping these acne suckers will be controlled soon!
Daily regimen:
Morning
Shower, very gentle exfoliation (nivea for men face scrub), acne lamp 15mins and then neutrogena rapid clear treatment for individual spots.
Night
Shower, face wash (containing salicylic acid) only a tiny amount, acne lamp 15mins then neutrogena rapid clear treatment for individual spots.
Steam my face 3 times a week with boiling water and added tea tree oil (5 mins)
Would the egg white and lemon mask do any good or dry my face out excessively!?
10g of B5, 2-3g of Vit-C, Garlic capsual (high strength), 1 x B complex and 2-3 litres of water with added fresh lemon juice.
I try to avoid dairy but i love it! and bread is so nice. I avoid chocolate easily and dont drink coffee maybe a cup of tea. Avoid all greasy fatty foods and take-aways, havn't drunk alcohol in about a month and i dont smoke.
I also exercise, weight training and football (soccer for yanks - is that a racist term? no offence if your offended)
This has definately helped my acne (or so i think so far)
I'm really confused..Should I take the b-complex caps along with b5 or avoid it? I read that you shouldn't take the other b-vitamins (B-6,B-3,B-12) because they can make acne worse! The b-complex I use includes b6 and b12...On the other hand it also includes b2 which is said to help oily skin alot...What should I do?

Hey, here is my question - today I just got my B5 from Evolution x5
I dont really break out bad anymore, i got some red marks on my cheeks froem previous pimples, but i dont get big pimples anymore, if anything sometimes i just get tiny tiny tiney whiteheads which are the size of a small pore. But the reason I ordered b5 is becasue my skin does get a lil oily during the day at work after 6 hrs of work, I was my face in teh moring and night with a facewash "cletaphil" i think its called, and also sometimes try to use Cleaning pads at work if skin gets oly, at night I also put AZELEX Cream on my red spots so they would go away faster. I have been getting good imporvement, in february my skin looked horroble - i had 4 HUGE whiteheads on my cheeks, now I just have some spots on my cheeks and thats prety much it, I ordered 5b maybe to eliminate skin oil so I dont have to wash my skin and have it get red when it gets oly.
My question is - should I just contunnue cleaning my skin and keep doing what I been doing ( im also on a diet- no sweets or spicy foods! ) and just wait for everything to dissapear, or try B5 to eliminate oily skin completely? My skin is in much better and pretty good condition now and Im afraid of it breaking out when I sue b5 and making it look much worse. What do you suggest from your expereince?
I'm on day 12 now with 10g per day and don't see any change really. Still oily forehead. Just ordered Clinac OC gel to try it.
Will stick with b5 and b-complex though and continue with low fats diet. I just don't understand where this oil comes from since I hardly eat anything fat..if this continues I may even join OPEC..
Anyone here who successfully tried b5 after an accutane treatment?
I have been considering using B5 and have been doing tons of research on it. I stumbled across this link B5 Treatment which claims that high doses of B5 are dangerous and do not work. Now of course the person who wrote this article is trying to sell a book so I don't know if this is valid info or not. The information is well documented but I am not sure if everything has been fully researched. It may be a ploy to sway people away from using B5 and ordering the book; your thoughts?
Found this at drugs.com and it's medical info on oily skin. If it's true then I don't understand how b5 and a low fat diet can help.. What do you think ?
Heredity and hormones play the key role in whether or not you have oily skin. The most important thing you can do for oily skin is to keep your skin clean using warm water and soap, or a soapless cleanser.
Clean your face with astringent pads if frequently washing your face leaves your skin irritated. Use only water-based cosmetics if you have oily skin. Diet probably has little, if anything, to do with whether or not you have oily skin.
