Could that be why, I've been using the Sams club brand (Members Mark)... has anyone else had this happen to them? Is there a different brand you recommend I take???🙁
did u try the rancid test?
cut one open with a knife.. see how it tastes and smells. if its nasty, then its rancid.
i think most all the fish oils ive been taking were rancid. (i also noticed that they made my skin very oily... wierd) so ive stopped for now, and switch to green tea extracts. they seem to work so far by reducing inflammation a lot.... *crosses fingers*. my skin is less oily that i've stopped fish oil too. well, no my t-zone (nose) is still very oily.. which is normal for me, but they rest of my face has almost gone back to normal.
Interesting... maybe I should try green tea extracts... how does this work? WHere can I get it? Sorry but can you tell me how to go about starting this?
Thanks!
There is a whole thread on green tea extracts. Ndnromeo does a good job of explaining it:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Green-Tea...ts-t143803.html
some ppl who are taking fish oil have stopped taking green tea though, because it is thought that green tea (an effective fat burner) is counter-acting the effects of the fish oil.
u can get green tea extracts from any place they sell vitamins. walmart.. health food store... etc. details are in that thread.
How long does it take to see the effects of fish oil?Is GNC a good brand?
There's a variance from person to person, but it can start in little as a few days to a few weeks, and the full effects can be seen from 2 months up till 6 months (in full). The reason being is that it takes a long time for our bodies to store and start using omega 3 (the omega 3 levels in our body) as I have read before. It may be wrong too, but not too sure. So try it out 🙂
But for things like emotional well being, the results seem pretty fast.
Well, i've been taking fish oil for about a whole month now!
Skin seems less oily, hair more shiny, and my nails are SO strong now! I know this sounds weird but my nails have always been so short and chipped. Now they are kinda long and super strong! They look really nice.......it makes me want to go out and get a manicure to show them off!
Body skin and lips are also less dry which is awesome. I'll keep updating if I see anymore changes.
Uh I've been taking fish oil for a week now, and I also use differin.
My skin for the time being is extremely clear of all pimples and stuff, but I still have to wipe my face like 3 times a day because of oil...This isn't new because of fish oil...it just...hasn't gone away SINCE fish oil.
I take 1.5 grams of epa+dha a day. Do I need more for this stuff to have an noticeable effect?

A week is too little, it takes a lot longer, it may or may not go. everyone is different and some people take weeks, some months. some don't react, some get worse. It all depends on the source of your oil really, and all that, since acne is caused by so many sources too. Give it more time, stay at between 2 to 3 grams.

That sounds really good! I'm happy for you, glad it's working 🙂 Must feel really good, I can't believe it's already been a month!
Question:
I have just bought some omega 3 pure fish oils and from looking at the nutrition information i am now confused. You guys say around 3grams is recommended. This says two capsules a day is recommended. However the info says there is 214mg 'of which EPA&DHA' per TWO capsules. Therefore does that mean i have to take like 6 a day for it to take an effect? This is gonna be expensive....Advice would be appreciated x

Your capsules seem really low quality, 214 mg for 2 pills? That must be bad quality. Is there any way to take it back? Each of my pills get 400 mg of omega 3!
Help!My fish oils are 1000mg....the EPA/DHA total is 300mg per pill.
So would I need 13 pills of it a day so the 300mg = 4grams of the two acids?
yeah i've got the same thing and i'm now wondering. mine too is from walmart and is the spring valey brand.
1000mg=1g fish oil
of which 300mg is EPA/DHA. so in order to get the 3g intake i'd need roughly 10 or so pills a day eh? please advise.
regards
Desmond. i've been taking these for a month now but only 3 pills a day.
Dezzy, Blessthefall:You are correct, since there are 300 mg of omega 3 per capsule, 10 capsules = 3 grams. Hopefully, go up slowly. You may find that 2 grams is even suitable enough based upon your diet :).
Would taking an EFA complex be better, or will that give me too much omega 6 and 9?
Has the topic of emulsified omega 3 come up before? Should we be taking less of emulsified omega 3 instead of more non-emulsified omega 3?

Yup, don't take the omega complete, it comes with too much 6 and 9

It has, but I wasn't sure what to do... because I think natural is generally best, but emulsified seems to be more bioavailable. It's hard to tell too
So 13,000mg of Fish oils a day, won't cause any harm right?
Breaking it down, that equals 6.5 grams of saturated fat and the rest (about) omega 3... the ratio maybe off, it's probably a little more on the sat fat side but that is still nothing. =) In a 2,000 calorie diet, 65 grams of fat a day is the max
The current recommended fat content is 30% of total calories per day. The new Food Facts label provides this as 65 grams for persons on a 2,000-calorie diet.
http://www.dietitian.com/fatlower.html
I learned that in class too. So yeah, you're really safe. And just remember the subway adds "Only 6 grams of fat or less!!" which implies, that it's still nothing.
You're safe. Just be sure to go up slowly and not all at once.
I went and picked up a concentrated omega 3 supplement. Each capsule has 600mg total of the two acids. Do you think it is better if I take one or two 3-6-9 complex just so the 3 doesn't get too much out of proportion?
That's good, 600 mg is good, but be sure it says 1 capsule per serving.
Nope, you won't need any of the 3 6 9, otherwise you will beat the purpose of taking exactly the amount needed for your 03 :). On the other hand, if you feel they are getting out of proportion too fast, lower the omega 3 dose instead. It will be cheaper than taking the extra o3 and then an additional 3 6 9 🙂 Get what I mean?
After being 2 months and more on a 3.6g of omegas everyday (the GNC brand), I've yet to see much noticeable effects on my face. It's still as oily as ever, and there are still as many inflamed spots all over. Thinking of continuing for another month before giving up, or maybe it's just not for me. I eat it religiously after meals and spread it out over the course of the day. Anyone also experiencing no difference even after some time?
Romeo I have a few questions for you..1. How long have you been on the Omega 3 diet?
2. Has it been working and how long did it take to start working?
3. What is the condition of your skin as of today?
Before omega 3, my skin was pretty oily, but about a few weeks in, it reduced a good amount. Then about 3 months in, my oil pretty much was non existent. It was there, but so little it wasn't worth bothering with. I still get acne, but from other causes.
I've been on it since feb

What's your diet like? Do you eat a lot of dairy or grains?
Hey Ndnromeo, What is the highest dosage of fish oil you've tried and for how long?
What is the most that you've heard of people taking on this thread?
Has anyone cleared up because of fish oil?
I am going to go out and buy some fish oil in liquid form because i just want to give this thing a big chance to work. I've been taking 3.6 grams of omega 3 for a few months now and obviously i still have acne. I can't really say for sure if it had any effect but it think if i try it out in higher dosages i can come up with some interesting results to post on here in a couple of weeks.
I'm opting for liquid as i figure a few tablespoons of the stuff everyday is better than taking like 30 capsules.
I also am not bothered about the seemingly high dosage because weightlifting coaches suck as Charles Poliquin advise taking between 30 and 45 grams of fish oil when performing heavy exercise. This would equate to between 9 and 13.5 grams of omega 3 so i think it is safe to go as high as to triple my current dosage. (giving about 11 grams omega 3)
Much appreciated if you could answer those Q's.
I've been taking 3.6g of Omega 3 for the last 3 months or so, and I have noticed a remarkable difference in my skin. Less oil, less acne and (I don't think this is related), my red marks are fading now. (I think I only notice my red marks getting better because I am not getting many new ones to replace them). However, my skin is still not clear. I've added a Skin, Hair and Nails supplement to my diet of late, although I'm not sure how much good that will be doing, but it just seemed sensible.
So, I wonder what to try next? It seems like lots of people are trying lots of different things on top of the Omega 3 so I was wondering where to start to tweak my regimen? Should I start to remove food groups from my diet? Or try B5 as well. My Skin, Hair and Nails is giving me 100% RDA on lots of things like Zinc, B5 and Vitamin E. My Omega 3 capsules give me plenty of Vitamin E as well.
I would appreciate any suggestions,
Thanks.
