Kay... So i went out and bought "Salmon Oil" and another fish-extracted oil that i cant really translate in english. I'm not sure which one should i take though. The one called Salmon Oil has Omega-3 and polysaturated fats and the other one has Omega 3, Vitamins A, D.

Which one? What do i need from those ingredients, and how much?

http://www.healthspan.co.uk/omega_3/omega_...e-c151p354.html

I'm gonna try these. 300mg of EPA and DHA when combined so I'll take 4 per day which will last me for 45 days. That seems like a good cop to me!

You should try the Holland and Barrett brand:

http://tinyurl.com/2vk6wf

They are good value. If you buy 500 in one go, it's currently on sale for 9.99 a bottle, so each capsule is 2p. I take 12 a day, so it costs me 24p a day, and I get 3.6g of Omega 3 (300mg in each capsule). I also get a good dose of Vitamin E from these capsules, which is good for your skin. They are regularly on offer at Holland and Barrett, about every 2 or 3 months, so you can stock up to last you through to the next sale quite easily. This on ends on July 19th, when they will go back up to triple the price. They're worth a try.

I just bought fish oil and noticed it also has 0.9iu of vitamin E each capsule. Is this okay?

Yes, that is fine. You should purchase some additional vitamin E. The 400 i.u. per capsule kind :).

This thread is interesting. I just returned from a 10 day vacation where I forgot to bring my Nordic Natural's Ultimate Omegas. I have taken these pills for years and when I returned home, I woke up one day with four HUGE brand new zits. The only think I have done differently is NOT take fish oil... Needless to say, Thank you for helping me figure this out! I am interested in hearing about people's results with fish oils and how their acne improved (or not)

Get the salmon oil one. The second one seems like cod liver oil. 🙂 Read the EPA and DHA, add them up. That = omega 3 content.

I figured that much out but its still low... EPA+DHA=27% and the tabs are 500mg each. so that means i have to take.... 30 pills a day? thats way out of budget

I've been on a couple of grams of omega 3 for a couple of years now to compliment the high oil fish diet I went on to a few years ago. never noticed much effect on my skin but it did have some pretty spectacular effects on my cognitions. Chronic insomnia was significantly reduced, mood stabilised, concentration was better and i just generally feel better on it. There have been some studies linking omega 3 to relief from symptoms in many psychiatric disorders, and some psychiatrists are bucking the pharma trend and using omega 3 over typical drugs to treat schizophrenia, hyperactivity and depression.

Omega 3 seems to be associated with a lot at the moment and only time will tell whether it really applies to so many conditions - the current studies lack power. But given that there appears to be no downside to taking it for many people it will be a case of taking it and hoping for the best. I do wonder whether some of the effects from individual testimonials are due to changes in diet as well...when we decide to take omega 3 we may also make a conscious effort to eat more vegetables and less fat, something that we may not keep up with (guilty as charged!)

I buy the big pots from Tescos in the UK that provides 300 in omega 3. I've heard some people complain of a fishy after taste when they are being digested but I have never experienced this. Those Holland and Barratt offers may be better though (500 for A10 seems a really good deal).

To NdnRomeo....

So I've been taking 3 grams of Fish Oil pills and I began to notice a difference, a bad one.... I began to break out! Well I began to get big pimples (which it had been a while since I had one, I usually get zits) in my cheeks and in my hair line, I also began to use more oil blotting sheets than I used to... I was produceing more oil than before. It had only been bout a week in a half into taking 3 g everyday... do you know why this is happening? I know everyones skin is different, so could it just be that it doesn't work for me? Or do you usually break out and get super oily skin before you get better?

I'm so depressed right now, I hate it! So for know I'm gonna stop taking them and see if they go away, only then I will know if it was the fish oil pills or some thing else :(

Thanks!

is it possible that there is something else in the capsules that you are reacting to? It could even be the gelatin capsule

Could that be why, I've been using the Sams club brand (Members Mark)... has anyone else had this happen to them? Is there a different brand you recommend I take???

:(

If you want to minimize the chance of there being any extra ingredients that might cause problems for you, try taking straight liquid fish oil. I use Carlson's "Very Finest Fish Oil (Lemon Flavor)" and haven't had any trouble with it.

Personally, I don't recommend the emulsified fish oils that are also available a it's too much like drinking creme rinse. Blech. (Although there was some discussion earlier in the thread about whether emulsified fish oil might be more effective...)

🙁

did u try the rancid test?

cut one open with a knife.. see how it tastes and smells. if its nasty, then its rancid.

i think most all the fish oils ive been taking were rancid. (i also noticed that they made my skin very oily... wierd) so ive stopped for now, and switch to green tea extracts. they seem to work so far by reducing inflammation a lot.... *crosses fingers*. my skin is less oily that i've stopped fish oil too. well, no my t-zone (nose) is still very oily.. which is normal for me, but they rest of my face has almost gone back to normal.

I am so sorry to hear that 🙁 I don't know what that is happening to you! Stop it and see if it goes away. Do you have any fish sensitivities? It sounds like what happened to me with milk... cutting it out got rid of the oilyness. That really may be it.

If you really want to try... stop fish oil capsules till you are back to normal, then eat fish, like salmon or any fatty fish, see what happens to your skin. If the same result occurs, it's probably a sensitivity to seafood.

Or another brand, but I don't think the brand is the reason. It sounds like something is going all wrong inside with fish in general?

It was worth it for the happy moods all the time though :)

I found these pills called "ZODIN" (also sold as "OMACOR"). They're not fish oil but it says omega 3 EPA 460mg + DHA 380mg . Is that any good?

In the side effects it says: dermatologic: rare: acne, rashes etc

What do you think?

Omacor is the first FDA approved, prescription only fish oil (for potenency, and quality assurance purposes, but the price is steeper than the best brands out there that are not moderated by the gov).

http://www.omacorrx.com/

Where did you get it? Or are you getting a prescription?

Yes, if you have fish allergies or sensitivities, they can cause rashes etc, but that is with anything, including food. So if you find yourself sensitive to fish, don't take fish oil, but probably an alternative omega 3 source. But most people are fine. Most fish allergies, I think, come from shellfish? I can't recall.

ok im a week into 15 caps of cod liver...and still taking my 4 omega 3 egg yokes and 2 table spoons of total EFA (health from the sun) and its going fine. Maybe im getting mild headaches but ive also started using Chromuim and Macca again...along with my other supplements and a controlled diet I think dropping chicken for whey is helping aswell (esp with the ratios). Either way a few months ill report more im still going to push for accutane while im bad right now. However if I get it and I think I can clear myself again without using accutane I will just stash it up and use as my last resort.

Why do you believe that could happen? It really puzzles me and I want to know, do you have a clue? As well as why some people are also getting a negative reaction? Perhaps an allergic response or a sensitivity?

If your concerned/curious, just pop open one of your capsules and taste it...its pretty tasteless to be honest. The ones in the store are usually lemon flavored. It cant be that bad, just take quick tablespoons...
