okay then i think my fish oils have been rancid. those were expensive ones (SISU brand)... they gave me fish burps. so i just bought a huge bottle from costco. i bit into one today... had a similar fishy taste. not s strong but still unpleasant.i had an old bottle of Carlson's fish oil lying around so i just tried biting into that... had that same fishy taste. but ppl here have been raving about carlson's.. so i dont know.... maybe its just an old bottle?
i dont know whats okay or not...!
If it tastes like fish, then it should be okay? It says, it should taste a bit like fish, but not rancid. I don't know.
Try this, put one of the capsules in the fridge, and then see what happens overnight... I mean freezer, sorry.
Hey guys. I'm going on a "vacation" in a few days and I figured I might get started on the fish oil while I'm at it.
My ma works for a local company which happens to make Omega-3 supplements among numerous other things and so we can get it basically for free. Along with an iodine-free multivitamin I want to get this:
http://melaleuca.com/ps/index.cfm?f=ps.pro...il&pid=8545 (click on product label to see facts)
To me it seems like it has just what I need. Interestingly, compared to GNC fish oil ( http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?produ...&cp=2626017 ) which I've been checking out recently, it has WAY more active ingridients per serving.
Anyway, does it seem legit? I decided to check with the gurus before asking my ma to get it for me.

okay.. i'll put all 3 brands in. we'll see what happens tmr morning.
my dad has a liquid fish oil in the fridge... its by Nutrasea.. a very excellent brand. but it has lemon flavour in it. and i can't take lemon (intolerance). so this is very fustrating to find a good brand that works for me.
right now, im pretty disgusted with the human race for ruining our ocean waters with mercury pollution. otherwise, i'd gladly be eating tons of fish everyday.

If you are assured of the quality of the product for which your mother works for, then go for it, especially if it's for free. But just remember to read the serving size, it says 3 pills per serving to 400 mg of epa and 1000 mg of dha, so divide that by three and you will find out how much omega 3 there is per pill (1.4 grams / 3). About 450 mg per pill 🙂

That, and also disgusted about how processed food is these days, even vegetables are chemically altered. Like this week I ended up learning produce like eggplant was actually white, but altered to be purple to look more presentable. Also the gas process they use to ripen fruits to be put on the produce floor. There's just so much, not to mention the pesticides.
Does anyone know anything about the DHA inhibiting EPA? I have been reading alot on this and they say EPA converts in DHA anyway so its not really neccessary.
Most of the books I read say pureEPA is the best method..im going to try this and ordered a bottle from mind1st
Their was another acne and prescription drug forum i read a while ago and apparently someone mentioned to not take flaxseed, Cod liver or fish oil if you have been on roaccutane. Is their any evidence or if anyone here can say if this is true? Apparently they said it can flare up all the symptoms of when they were on the stuff...im guessing they are just paranoid and thinking too much etc...
Can somone help me please with this brand of fish oil.
This is the label.

My hands used to almost ALWAYS be cold, and reddish in color.Since being on the fish oil, this is happening much less often.
This is really great, because the cold hands thing was quite annoying.
Perhaps this is due to a thinning of blood consistency caused by the fish oil (thus better blood/warmth circulation)? does that make sense?
Just a followup on this... i fuond this:
http://www.answers.com/topic/fish-oil-2?cat=health
"Several small studies indicate that fish oil may be helpful in treating .... Raynaud's phenomenon, an autoimmune disorder in which the patient's hands and feet are abnormally sensitive to cold and emotionalstress. With respect to the Raynaud's patients, small double-blind studies showed that very high doses of fish oil reduce their responses to cold. It appears, however, that doses as high as 12 g of fish oil daily are necessary to provide this effect."
Slightly off topic i know, but interesting! i'm definitely seeing these effects, and at dosages lower than 12g. no more cold hands... i love it!
okay so this morning i checked the pills i left in the freezer. none of them were cloudy. so does that mean they are okay? how foolproof is this test?
*edit*
well. i think im gonna have to toss out these pills. i just dont feel comfortable taking them anymore. bah. dont know what to do anymore. i'll take some Green tea extracts and eat some salmon in the meantime.

Hey I'd be careful taking cod liver oil...its good stuff but your probably taking way too much vitamin A if your taking alot of it. Which isnt all bad for skin but can cause a toxicity to build up long term. But im not sure how true that all is its just from what i heard...let us know how it goes.
I plan on going on a protein rich diet by eating loads of chicken daily..most fruit and veg as well.

Agreed. That dose is seriously toxic.
Im quite concerned about a few things.
1.Fish oils contain mercury in them. Are we building up alot of mercury in our systems?
2. Moleculer Distillation is what gets rid of toxins such as Mercury from fish oil but aparently it oxidizes it which is not good? I heard it makes it stronger but someone said it can make it go off or change its naturaly state.

Im going of results...it may be toxic...it may not be...but whats there to lose, its worth me trying this as Accutane is next on my list and I think thats a bad move.

You have nothing to worry about with fish oil supplements. I read a report somewhere that said how fish oil capsules are very safe when it comes to mercury levels. I can't find it though, otherwise I would post it. 🙂

W A I T. If you are thinking about throwing them away, then buy another bottle, do the chew test, and if it's the same, then it's fine. Remember, they are SUPPOSED to taste fishy, but NOT rancid =).

Try to find that article if possible, I am interested in reading that. That way we can also advice people who are taking accutane, to do so properly as well.

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamina.asp
Recommended Daily Allowance for Vitamin A:
About 700mcg (2,3100 IU) - 900 mcg (3000 IU)
Tolerable Upper Intake (ULs) for Vitamin A:
About 2,800 mcg (9,240) - 3000 mcg (10,000 IU)
What are the health risks of too much vitamin A?Hypervitaminosis A refers to high storage levels of vitamin A in the body that can lead to toxic symptoms. There are four major adverse effects of hypervitaminosis A: birth defects, liver abnormalities, reduced bone mineral density that may result in osteoporosis (see the previous section), and central nervous system disorders [1,48-49].
Toxic symptoms can also arise after consuming very large amounts of preformed vitamin A over a short period of time. Signs of acute toxicity include nausea and vomiting, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, and muscular uncoordination [1,48-49]. Although hypervitaminosis A can occur when large amounts of liver are regularly consumed, most cases result from taking excess amounts of the nutrient in supplements.
Make sure you are not going over the UL for vitamin A, and keep alert for symptoms :).
Here's another way to test the fish oil
But one doctor told NBC 10 he has got a simple test that can be done at home. The test is not scientific. It's what he calls the "poor man's way" to test omega-3s. Take a fish oil capsule, puncture it with a pin and drain it on a solid plate, like china, not paper. Put it in the freezer for at least five hours. If the oil freezes or turns to slush, the doctor said it's probably junk.
"If, on the other, it's either liquid or it evaporates, you've got high-quality fish oil, and I'd recommend you stay with it,"
http://morepa.blogspot.com/2007/03/are-you...quality-or.html
Well, I've been taking fish oil for 2 weeks now.
The skin all over my body looks and feels more hydrated......I don't even feel the need to use body lotion. I also notice that I havn't had any dandruff, and I usually have LOADS. (sick, I know)
I wonder what magic fish oil holds for me in the future...I can't wait to see what will happen in a couple of months. (hopefully it will help with hormones, eek!)
I bought the Fish Body Oils 1000 from GNC and was wondering if this is a good brand to use?
Also, do you add the EPA and the DHA together for each capsule and then take as many capsules that equals the amount of grams you want to take? If that is understandable, lol...
Will fish oil help with blackheads?

This is the brand that I am taking. I get mixed results from them, although it might just be the way that my body works with the Fish Oil. Some days my skin is perfect, other days I break out. Generally, I have gotten good all round results from them. The Vitamin E in them really helps your skin too.
Each tablet contains 180mg of EPA and 120mg of DHA. Add these together to get the Omega 3 total per capsule. For these tablets, that is 300mg of Omega 3. I take 3.6g of Omega 3 per day, so I take 12 capsules, split into 3 doses of 4 tablets. I would start taking one tablet, three times per day and work your way up to about 3g of Omega 3. See how you go from there. It can take up to 3 months to see good results.
By the way, Holland and Barrett have them on special offer at the moment, and do quite regularly, but stock up on them now. If you're taking 12 capsules a day, a bottle of 500 will last you 41 days. And 9.99 for 500 is a pretty good deal. I try to make sure I buy at least 3 months supply in one go, so I don't have to pay for them full price. Their sale is on until July 19th by the way.
