This is the brand that I take and it is often on special offer at Holland and Barrett. I'm starting to doubt the quality of this product though as I am not seeing the results I expected, even though I've been taking them for quite a while. I also get fishy burps, which aren't too pleasant. I can't recommend another brand as such, as I have only used Boots own make. These seemed quite good, but I couldn't highly recommend them. If anyone can recommend other UK brands, or products available for UK customers, I'd be interested in hearing about them.
I have no idea whats up with my face the last couple days. My excess oil is pretty much non-existant, but ive been breaking out A LOT. A lot of them are still pretty uninflamed, but I haven't broken out this much in months, especially on my forehead, and I generally never breakout on my forehead. I increased my fish oil dosage and im going back to taking a bunch of ACV, just in case this is because I was getting slack on any of that. Hmmmm....last weekend I bought a new bottle of fish oil, the wal mart brand along with some acai. I thought acai was maybe making me breakout a little more or something, stopped for a day or two, but started it again...now that I think about this more, maybe I was taking way too little fish oil this last week and now im really seeing the negative results. Its hard to say, because I dont know how long it takes the body to react. I doubled my dosage yesterday and still broke out a bit today but one day probably isn't enough.
I think im thinking too hard about this...i've gotten nearly clear from this before, its not like its just stopped working. I should be fine, you can ignore this, I just think a lot better when im writing like this.
A little update about me ...
I haven't been around because I've been really sick, but I have had exactly 2 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) inflamed comedones in the last 3 weeks. I am soooooo excited! Even though when I was sick I had trouble remembering to take my Fishies, my skin still looks quite good. I'm shocked. Still a bit shiny, though definitely not as bad.
So I bought some Paula's Choice 2% BHA gel to try to clear the rest of my blackheads and smooth my skin out. I had great success with AHA after accutane, so I'm hoping this helps. So far my skin seems smoother, but it's only been 5 days. I do have to say, I had one big pustule the day I started Paula's and I literally watched it shrink in size over the course of the first 4 hours after I put the BHA on. Holy shla-moly! Impressive.
And that, folks, is my fish oil update!
Any chance that fish oil can actually cause you to produce MORE oil?
I've been taking 2.7 grams a day for about two weeks now and am as oily as ever. I know that's probably not enough time to get any sort of definitive results -- but for those of you who actually noticed a significant oil decrease, how long did it take?
My skin is soooooo oily it's just gross, I have to blot several times a day to keep from looking like I dunked my head in an oil vat, lol. Maybe I'm just unlucky and that's the way I am, but it's seemed even worse than usual lately.

Try not taking it and see if that helps. If it does, it was probably because you could not break down the fats efficiently due to a lipase deficiency (just guessing). So then try adding in digestive enzymes and see if that helps too. I guess that's the best advice I could probably give in this situation. But it's not the only one 🙂
Thanks for the quick reply Romeo 😀um yeah one more question... i dunno why but i developed little more oily skin after doin the regimen... and im only planning to take 1 or 1.5g of fish oil (i dont like overdosing)
would that be enough to have some effect on my oily skin?
Up to 6 grams a day is not overdosing, you should get at least 3 grams a day, regardless of if you are trying to improve acne or not.
UPDATE:
Its been 5 weeks so far that i've been taking fish oil pills. I currently take from 4-5 grams a day. My forehead is 95% clear with slight bumps and stuff that need to be given time. My jaw line and area where my beard grows is clearing. My nose is perfectly clear with a few clogged pores. My mustache area is perfectly clear. My chin is perfectly clear. On the chin where my "soul patch" is...i have a bunch of clogged pores. If i squeeze them, white goo comes out of them. My problem area is my temples and my cheeks. I started taking 4 tablespoons of ACV from last week and I think it caused me to breakout. Cuz not only did i get big inflamed ones on my forehead, cheeks and temples, but also on my chest and on my thighs. I havent had a breakout on my chest, thighs or butt in soooo damnn long ( a year). I was about to cry.
I officially stopping the ACV. Fuck that. Everything was going so good before that. I think the ACV messed with the absorption of the fish oil and caused that to happen. I also have finals this week so it could be from the stress from those, but I wanna say its the ACV more.
As for oil production. Its only in my T zone now. I guess someone said it before, the oil dries out like a lakebed so from outside to inside.
I was gonna ask that girl out this weekend after finals. Guess gonna have to wait one more week after that for the current stupid pimples to clear up. Stupid ACV.

Yup, that was me 🙂 The progress is so gradual, yet continual that I can now understand how finding out how it can take up to 6 months in full means. Some may take just weeks, some months. I am glad you are having good results.
All this nutrition knowledge actually paid off in class. I am taking a cooking class (it's part of my major), called food service/production (it's a lot harder than it seems), and we were learning about vitamins/minerals/fats/proteins etc... and they were going over vitamins, fat soluble and water. So the teacher asked if anyone knew the b vitamins. Without thinking I started firing off pantothenic acid, riboflavin, thiamine etc etc and everyone was like wtf? I felt embarrassed that I actually knew all that, but it felt pretty cool. Just a little 'rant'

Thats awesome! good for you!
If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is your major??
Okay, so I went to Sam's and bought a HUGE bottle of the Member's Mark Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules. Is this a good brand?
I've been taking 3 capsules a day for 3 days now. I notice that my face looks more "hydrated", which is good since it was sooo dehydrated from the accutane course I just finished. Today, i'm gonna bump myself up to 4 capsules.

They give me fish burps once in a while, but work and aren't too pricy 🙂

I'm in hotel and restaurant management down at UofH 🙂
The class I am taking:
HRMA 2422
Food Service Production and Operations (formerly HRMA 2321 and 3222)Prerequisites: HRMA 1101, 1245, 1337 and credit for or concurrent enrollment in 1220
Food service systems, including menu management, purchasing, and production applied to an operating environment. Laboratory aspects and demonstration of basic food production techniques and principles
Yup, that's the brand I use too! And that was also one of the first thing I noticed, the hydration of the skin. The teacher even mentioned that in class "the importance of good fats" one of them being smooth and healthy skin. So you're on the right path!
By the way, I replied to your PM =) Don't know if you got it

That's also a sign that you are having difficulty digesting fats. I really thing you should try digestive enzymes sometime soon to see how you do, it's god send for me right now, but again, you can wait to see how I do for a couple of weeks =)
damn i should probably up my dosage of O-3.. i'm only taking 2.1g O_Ohow important is it to ingest a fatty food before taking O-3? It's supposed to improve O-3 absorption but by how much?
and what would be better taking O-3 with... no food or foods without fats?
Anything from 2 to 3 grams is generally really optimal, anything after that is up to you. And yes, for some reason, saturated fat also aids in the absorption of polyunsaturated fats (o3), so a little bit with each meal is good.
Btw just wanted to add, like with the example of the ACV, getting a breakout isn't always an indication of things getting worse. I actually think this is one of the reasons so many treatments are perceived as not being that good. Like accutane etc, many decent treatments can may you break out at first and is quite common which puts people off and they think it doesn't work, but stick with it and it may be the one.
Easy to say from here, I wouldn't want to go through an initial breakout only to find it still didn't do much, but I'd say give anything a few weeks to a month to get an idea really.
For the person who wanted to know if there was a different brand of fish oil in the UK, I found a place.

I have had there brand of Pantothenic acid before, but I bought from there shop not online.
Im not sure how good this brand is though.
Update:
I don't know if this is the fish oil working so fast, but I got up this morning and looked in the mirror and my face looked AMAZING! I mean, I hardly needed any make-up at all! This is a very huge step in the right direction since my face has been SO red and blotchy from the combination of my accutane course and staying of the sun and hiding behind a mask of make-up for nearly 6 years.
I'm also bumping myself up to 6 grams today.
I got myself back under control again now that I kicked it back up to around 4 grams the other day. Pretty much no excess oil.
Still taking a bit of ACV...it helps metabolize all that fat your getting from the fish oil!If you already have a good metabolism, great, but theres no reason it should interfere with the fish oil.
Im looking into finding the best brand for me. I had that brand, cant remember the name, but it was in a black bottle you can get at walmart and it was high strength, lots in each capsule. It smelt fishy though and I was leaving it in the cupboard so I was worried it was either low quality or the heat had spoiled it. I switched to the walmart brand now and am keeping it in the fridge to be sure but its hard to take much more than 4 grams or so because theres a much lower amount per capsule and I have to get at least 20+ a day. I'd like to be able to go higher than that though. I wanna get a good level, maybe around 5 or 6 grams and just ride it out until the 6 month mark.
WOW, thanks for all this information NdnRomeo... I'm so excited and can't wait to go to Sams Club right after work! This is very helpful, ever since I came on this site, I've been for cautious about my skin (which I think it's a good thing, since now I'm putting the right things on it to cure it)...
Question though... I believe you said you use ACV as a toner, do you use half ACV and half water? Do you leave it on? Do you use it every morning and night? I just bought but haven't began using it since I'm not too sure how to properly use it... Thanks!

That's what I'm looking to do too. I've been at 6 grams for a good while. I think anywhere from 4-6 should be great. 🙂
I started to take Fish oil capsules May 4th withouth fail and I am here to post pictures of my progress. You will notice in the first picture that my skin was somewhat oily and red. THe second picture was taken 2 weeks after I first started to take them and you can see my face is improving and how the last picture was taken last week and you can see how my face is not really oily anymore, the redness has gone away and overall skin tone is improving, what do you guys think?
