I've now gone through 3 bottles of fish oil pills, and have seen no effect on oil or acne what so ever in my case. Good luck to those that continue to use it with success, but i'm not gonna keep swallowing 12-15 pills a day for nothing anymore.

Tough times

I really don't have breakouts anymore. My chin has been almost completely clear for a good while now.

Also today my doc told me I have persistent headaches because of stress. I need to chill, and hopefully whatever little pimples I do have will go away altogether. 🙂

And thanks femme25, I'll pick those up tomorrow.

Instead of ditching it all together, just take a small dose, and focus on other parts of your diet that you are lacking in and be sure you are getting everything else. If you still see no effect, put <a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href=" http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=22&k=digestive%20enzyme s" onmouseover="window.status='digestive enzymes'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">digestive enzymes</a> into the mix to ensure you really are digesting and assimilating all the nutrients, including the fish oil.

All the digestive enzymes i've seen online are fairly expensive. I think digestion plays some part in my acne because i'm 6'2 only 150 lbs. You recommend any good brands romeo?

Has fish oil and zinc helped with stress? If you're a big stresser, perhaps the stress induced acne will go away from that zinc?

Damn it man, acne has so many sources, it's so stupid.

Go to the personal regimen log and click on 'the lab'. On the last two pages, I am documenting any change from the brand I am using. If you don't want to use it and just see how it goes for me before you jump in that is fine too 🙂 But there's some options from you. It's not as pricey as enzymedica, but I find, so far, that it's pretty effective.

I think I'm gonna stop taking high doses of omega-3 too. My face has gotten much worse in the past week since I've been taking 3 grams a day. It's pretty frustrating considering all the success so many have had. My only question is could it be the Spring Valley brand (from Walmart) is no good? I guess I could try another brand, but I don't want to unless that is likely the problem.

Anybody getting discouraged out there with the fish oil? i must say it's definitely helped my acne. cystic acne is much more rare for me but the fact that i still break out in teeny flesh-colored bumps has gotten me still discouraged. my skin is not smooth because of this. How much time do we have to give fish oil to say we've reached the maximum benefits? Romeo, was it 6 months minimum you said?

Well, its frustrating, but no reason to get discouraged. I dont know if fish oil is eventually gonna stop breakouts with time, or its just gonna continue to help keep it in check like it does for most of us now...only time will tell. Yes, 6 months is the next good marker, but really theres no rulebook to go by, this stuffs never really been tested the way it is now, and who knows how long it could really take, if it will indeed work that way at all.

I really don't have breakouts anymore. My chin has been almost completely clear for a good while now.

How much are you taking? You too Romeo, how much are you taking and how are you coming along lately?

I think I need to up my dose a little...I switched back to the Walmart brand, which I like, but there is so little in each capsule, compared to what I had been using anyways, so I have to take a bunch every day to get a good amount. My last bottle was a black one from walmart, I think it was called healthy choice or something...it had a great amount of omega 3 per capsule, at least twice that spring valley stuff, but it always smelled way fishy and I always had a feeling it was either low quality or just went bad(I kept it in the cupboard, and I live in Texas too and I have a feeling it could have gone bad from the weather, now i keep them in the fridge). But anyways, I was doing like 5 grams on that stuff, and now im only doing a little over 2. Im gonna adjust it so im doing at least three, especially since im drinking green tea and that taking away some of what I take.

Im doing pretty good though. My oil has pretty consistently stayed low ever since that point where it really dropped off, though on certain days I can feel it. I get some flesh colored bumps, but I still breakout too much which is why I need to try upping my dose again. 2 grams is probably just too low.

I just bought a giant bottle of omega 3 fish oil capsules today at Sam's!

I got a bottle of 400 capsules for almost $9.

I hope this works!

I've been taking 6.0 grams for a good while now. I just lowered it to 5.4 grams when I got these new ones. Sadly they only had one bottle, so I grabbed a 60 one with it.

I have one small pimple up by where my hair starts, but the brown/red marks are terrible and need to be dealt with 😆

Did that tape thing today, worked well. I'll keep up with that. 😀

Not related to acne, but I ran out of fish oil and ordered some more, but I was out for about a week and half or so. In that time, and to my surprise, my joints went to hell. I'm a basketball player and weightlifter and after running out of fish oil, I had a massive stiff neck for about 5 days, strained my lower back, my knees hurt really bad after basketball and I was unusually frustrated and ill-tempered all week (possibly due to the pain). This may have all been a big coincidence, but I think it was related to running out of fish oil. I just wouldn't have expected to feel ill effetcs so soon after running out.

I started taking it again and my joints are back to normal. I won't be running out again, that's for sure.

well somewhere on your post, you said that fish oil helped your heart and cholestrol or something... but these fish oils have cholestrol in it already... how did it help your cholestrol?

Ok cool...im definitely way upping my dosage now, even though it sucks because im gonna have to take like 20+ pills just to get 3 grams. Im also gonna put that green tea on hold, because i was drinking it for the last two days and today I started to breakout and it was way more inflamed than usual, and so apparently it was taking too much out of my already low dosage of fish oil. Upping my dosage should do the trick though.

And yeah, keep up that tape method. Ive had a major red mark/scarring issue for the last few months too, and this, after only a week, has by far shown the best and quickest results.

Read this 🙂

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to significantly reduce the risk for sudden death caused by cardiac arrhythmias and all-cause mortality in patients with known coronary heart disease. Fatty fish, such as salmon and tuna, and fish oil are rich sources of the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. Flaxseed, canola oil, and walnuts also are good dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids. In addition to being antiarrhythmic, the omega-3 fatty acids are antithrombotic and anti-inflammatory. In contrast, omega-6 fatty acids, which are present in most seeds, vegetable oils, and meat, are prothrombotic and proinflammatory. Omega-3 fatty acids also are used to treat hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and rheumatoid arthritis. There are no significant drug interactions with omega-3 fatty acids. The American Heart Association recommends consumption of two servings of fish per week for persons with no history of coronary heart disease and at least one serving of fish daily for those with known coronary heart disease. Approximately 1 g per day of eicosapentaenoic acid plus docosahexaenoic acid is recommended for cardioprotection. Higher dosages of omega-3 fatty acids are required to reduce elevated triglyceride levels (2 to 4 g per day) and to reduce morning stiffness and the number of tender joints in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (at least 3 g per day). Modest decreases in blood pressure occur with significantly higher dosages of omega-3 fatty acids. (Am Fam Physician 2004;70:133-40. Copyright 2004 American Academy of Family Physicians.)

Also, as a vast majority of bodybuilders have uttered to me when I posted on bb.com "food cholestorol levels do not directly dictate blood cholestorol levels" I haven't researched this but I can understand the logic behind it.

So with these two things combined, hopefully that gives you your answer =)

I think i'm gonna start using cod liver oil. It contains Vit. A & D, and I think i'm prolly lacking Vit. D since I go into work in the dark and I leave in the dark.

http://www.westonaprice.org/basicnutrition/codliveroil.html

This article also says that cod liver oil helps with insulin resistance, so i'm gonna give this a try since fish oil did nothing for me.

Google the upper tolerable level for vitamin A and D and be sure you don't exceed those, when you take cod liver oil.

For those of you who are saying they are not seeing any results. I have researched omega quite a bit and quality and potency are key here. All wal-mart brands and all that stuff is plain junk. You need a high quality like carlsons or this website http://www.mind1st.com/default.asp

It's actually not, quite the opposite. The biggest mistake to assume rather than find out for sure.

As for brands, I was all about Twinlab, being independently lab verified to have in the capsule what is on the label, but evidence from a variety of sources, including Consumers' Reports, indicates that the house brands of WalMart and Sam's Club are just as good.

In this case, low price does not equal low quality. It's actually cost considerate, and very effective.

I'm not too sure, since everyone it may or may not do the trick. Experiment with yourself to see which amount is best for you in addition to a good diet =)

Update: I've been taking Fish-oil for almost 3 weeks now (1 week - 1g/1 week- 2g), and haven't broken out for 4 weeks. Who knows, maybe fish-oil pushed me over to clear, maybe it's just wishful thinking. Time will tell!

Yeah your right Romeo, sorry for that. I would only make sure the brand you do buy is of good quality and do not get a brand just because it is cheaper.

Just a suggestion to curb costs, I take Carlson liquid fish oil, one teaspoon morning and night, and then take pills that I get on sale at the drugstore when they are buy one get one free. This helps since I am not burning through Carlson bottles constantly, but I know I am getting the high quality if the store bought ones aren't as good. Basically, I am hedging my bets.

I'm going to stay over 5 grams for about 3-4 months. I don't really mind taking 20 or more pills a day. I also put the plans for green tea on hold. There is still something that needs to be done about this redness. 😐

Also, what would be the best o3 to purchase? Whether it be online or in-store.
