Ive been drinking ACV lately, can I do both the Fish Oil and ACV or will they offset one another?
Just to be safe, do it at different times. Although I cannot imagine them interfering since acv has a pH of 3, and stomach acid 1-2, but I don't want to take chances as it does do something for digestion and clearance (as they say).
I have heard Omega 3 is unstable.Does anything happen to the omega 3 present in fish when you cook the fish?
Any other nutrients, that you guys know of, get degraded by the process of cooking?
Great question!
Secondly, the issue around frying is a bit more complex. Having read through way too many papers pubmed about how cooking fish effects the omega 3 content, there is disagreement between different papers - for example, one paper found a nutritionally significant 11% fat reduction when salmon was fried, while another found, on the contrary, it's hard to destroy the omega 3 fats in herring through cooking because "fatty acids have a high durability and a low susceptibility to thermal oxidative processes".In order words, it looks like the effects of cooking on the omega 3 content of fish may vary depending on the type of fish, length of cooking, and just blind luck. Frying fish may reduce the omega 3 content - but unless you char it to a crisp this is unlikely to completely destroy these fats. In other words, eat a healthy, varied diet, without too much fried food or junk food - but hopefully your common sense would tell you this, without the need to see a nutritionist.

mine is from nature made so hopefully that's good? I think I'll look into the Kirkland one when I start taking it again.
Nature's made is a reputable, widely distributed brand as well, so that is fine in terms of quality and safety. Next time you can pick up kirklands or member's mark, due to the price reasons 🙂
Basically, im not really strict on my diet, but I dont do anything thats way unhealthy. I guess a couple important things would be I hardly ever drink soda...I used to drink milk every day and now I avoid it though I get it in food sometimes. I avoid nuts and chips and stuff like that that I know either have oils or just hella high omega 6s. Basically though theres no on area of diet that im really strict on so im kinda up for experimentation as far as that goes, now that its summer.

Bobby Digital: What is the status of your skin atm? If you don't mind me asking.
For the next couple days, its really kinda up in the air. Its either about to get way better or just kind hover around what its been.
My face is pretty much clear right now except for two spots. For some reason, and this has been really uncharacteristic of my face lately, Ive gotten one bad cyst on each side of my face. One broke out Saturday night, and the other(and this confuses me) was from a really light breakout area that I thought was healing and pretty much gone and then yesterday it flamed up for some reason. So im really kinda waiting to see what happens. Like I said, cysts have been really uncharacteristic of my face since I started fish oil...and the rest of my face is doing great. So I dont know if something else random that i ate or something just really triggered a bad reaction or it was just some bad luck or what. But if these two heal over the next couple days and I continue to not breakout otherwise, i'll be feeling really good. But until then im trying to get these damn things to go.
Before the fish oil pills my skin was pretty bad (red marks, excess oil). I used to get at least 1-2 pimples per week. Two weeks later, along with the Glycolic acid that I'm using, my skin looks great! The overall texture looks better than it's ever been, my pores are smaller (probably because of the glycolic, though) and the red marks are fading slowly but surely. My skin has a great glow and looks healthier...
However... I noticed that I've been breaking ALOT more than usual! I wake up with a new pimple every morning! And I keep stressing about it (it's a vicious cycle) so I have no idea if the new acne that's forming is due to the fish pills or the stress that I'm experiencing (i've been very stressed lately... at school & at home). And I keep worrying about my skin.
I really hope that I'm not experiencing a food allergy from the fish pills and breaking out!... Because I want to stick to them. The brand I use is very trusted and mercury-free by the way.
Do you think my stress might be causing it?
Usually allergic reactions are in the form of hives or puffy eyes, or flushing. It isn't related, plus it would have happened sooner. It also relates to stress. Stress depletes your body of essential nutrients so if your diet is poor, your skin will show it. So that may be the case in terms of stress. Again, just a guess, there many other factors involved. What's your overall diet like?
Update:
Been 2.5 weeks since i started the fish oil. Im taking about 15-18 pills a day which comes out to 4.5 to 5.4 grams. I take it after a meal 5-6 pills at a time. Oil production is still there but its a different kind of oil like I said before. A better kind. In terms of breakouts...very minimal. I did have like 3 zits that came out when I went to try going back to Dove beauty bar soap for one day. This was about 5 days ago. So i stopped and am now still using water and baby brush method.
I can definitely see the results however I can tell its going to take a good amount of time till I become completely clear. I heard the 5 week mark is when it picks up and results really start to show. Im only half way there and for 2.5 weeks Im really impressed with what its done so far.
Another thing, what do you guys think in terms of drinking alcohol? I did get drunk last friday. I see people who drink intensely at clubs and have very clear faces and non-oily faces. I read beer in my library, that beer has more vitamins than milk without the protein. And something about the yeast inside it helping to clear the digestive system and stuff like that. Is there any correlation with that and Acne? Could it affect my omega3 absorbtion?
Hey just a question about the dosage of omega 3
im taking these pills that say for every 1200mg of fish oil there is 700mg of omega 3:
How the bottle sais it comes up with 700mg omega 3 is:
EPA - 380
DHA - 260
Omega 3 Polyunsaturated fatty acids: 60
my understandin from reading some of the thread was that the polyunsaturated fat doesnt count as omega 3 and that it was only the DHA + EPA.. so does it or doesnt it count?

Just count it as 700, not because it doesn't count, but because it's so little that 700 is a good number to measure by. I believe they are talking about a form which only a tiny bit gets converted, so it's actually 640 (if you want to be precise). 🙂
whats goin on??ive been takin fish oil tablets (nature made 5g / 14 pills) daily for 3 weeks now..
amazing results!! awesome! this thread is GREAT!(thank romeo, anon, and whoever else im forgetting)
almost there i would say 80% clear
Question though!!!
I've been reading up on vitamins and how everyone of them kinda effects your skin.
http://healing.about.com/od/acne/a/acnevitamins.htm
I dont like veggies and only like some fruit (only a few i will eat)
so i think im missing out on vitamins so i was wondering what was a good multi vitamin to take.. I was thinking mona vie??? any suggestions.. says it contains omega 3 fatty acids. Also Ive heard great things about it!
http://files.meetup.com/494139/Product%20Information.pdf
Also,
My diet is pretty good. (except lack of veggies).. I stopped eatting nuts and eggs for the omega 6 intake. But i started eatting them again about a week ago and i haven't seen it reflect on my face at all.
I'm using Neutrogena Deep Clean cream cleanser oil free. twice a day. if anyone reccomends something else im open for suggestions.
Romeo if you have any questions for your research just ask bro!! daily routines and what not!
I won't recommend any substitute for vegetables because the spectrum of vitamins and minerals you get, there is nothing which you can take that is worth it, in price, value, and performance.
You only need a couple. If I had to eat just a few: It would be carrots, spinach, and probably broccoli. For fruits, not too sure. There are good ways to incorporate spinach into your diet without tasting it at all.
For example, dice it up and add it to some beans and mix it with salsa and cheese and use it as a dip. You won't taste it at all. For carrots, they come in pre ready baby carrot form. Just grab a couple a few times a day and eat it. It's really easy.
So in this situation it's not necessarily about enjoying them, as opposed to how vital they really are. I've tried vegetable supplements, sadly the results were not the same. And vitamins are not the same form either. For instance, in carrots, you get beta carotene, which is a precursor to vitamin A. Any excess is non toxic and helps other areas of your body. So taking vitamin A would not be the same :(.
So please try and do it, for your best. A few fruits/veggies, zinc, omega 3, water, and then sources of protein and you are generally good to go. Then the rest is up to you, in terms of what you like to eat and what you can/cannot eat.
I've been taking fish oil pills for the last 2 weeks. I was taking in between 3-6 pills in the first week, and am now up to 10 (about 3.2 grams a day). Before starting these supplements I was follwing BobMcKee's regimen, and seemed to be getting pretty good results until a bad breakout discouraged me and I switched to the Fish Oil. I know that the breakout I had was caused by having eaten out like 4 times that week, and not because of Bob's regimen. I am, however, still recovering from that breakout which was almost a month ago and now that I have been taking the Fish Oil I have been getting a new pimple EVERY day in places I don't normally breakout. And my skin has been much more oily. This has never happened to me before... I had previously gotten maybe one small breakout per month. So my question is should I go back to Bob's regimen of borage/flax/epo or stick with the fish oil instead? I am just so confused and need an outside opinion...help?
PS I had been on Bob's regimen for about 2-2.5 months... Thanks!

Out of curiosity, what's your diet like? You should probably see what happens if you take Borage and Fish oil. (EPO is basically a inferior version of borage with less gla. And flax is a less efficient version of fish oil. So borage and fish = win.
Also, do you have any fish allergies?
I ask about your diet because it's quite important. What about your topical regimen. Also, how severe is your acne and what is your age?
I just turned 20, and have mild/moderate & VERY persistant acne. Normally it's concentrated on my chin and jawline, and I get a few breakouts on the left side of my face. I never sleep on my left side for this reason.
I'm very strict with my diet: no sugar, dairy, or wheat/gluten. I normally eat homemade veggie soups, salads, and fruit. Sometimes I will eat brown rice & black beans or gluten/wheat free pasta. I've been following this diet pretty strictly since mid February, with only one real slip up that caused the breakout I had about a month ago and am still recovering from.
I don't have any fish allergies that I know of. Fish is the only form of meat that I have eaten in the past 3 years, so I don't think I have a problem with it.
As for a topical regimen, I don't really have one. Occasionally I will put a little BP (Neutrogena On the Spot Acne Treatment) on a zit... I maybe do that once a week, because it seems to aggrivate my skin more than anything. During the day I use Complex 15 moisturizer, and at night I use a little Aloe as a moisturizer. I cleanse with Carley's products, but have decided to give up the scrub for a while due to my sensitive skin, and will just stick with the natural soap for now.
PS I'm a girl in case you were wondering, haha : )

Not so bad. Definitely start taking zinc if you don't. Also, how much vitamin A through E and K are you getting from foods. Basically, tell me the fruits and veggies you eat daily.
If you aren't allergic to fish, keep taking fish oil. Just add Borage oil or evening prim rose oil back into your diet. I am not sure how much to take as I don't have much research on that, but I guess what the bottle recommends is fine, or how much you were taking, which I assume is what the bottle recommends.
Do you also get scalp and body acne?
One more thing, do you exfoliate, and also, do you have oily skin and dry skin at the same time?
The fruit and veggies I eat changes week to week. Normally I make foods which include veggies like: spinach, romaine lettuce, carrots, celery, tomato (I know it's actually a fruit buy whatever), cucumber, sweet potato, and sometimes broccoli and squash. For fruit, I have caught myself eating a lot of apples lately... so I'm trying to incorporate more things like berries (mostly strawberries), apricots, nectarines, honeydew melon, plums.
I don't have any body acne or acne on my scalp, but my face is definitely oily and dry at the same time! UGH so annoying. I am definitely not one of those people who can skip moisturizer, and I have to blot oil away a few times a day. I exfoliate everyday with Carley's scrub, but today is the first day I decided to go without it... I think it's just too harsh on my skin lik most other exfoliants. I was thinking about trying your baby brush method, but am scared, because my skin is soooo sensitive.
I'm pretty sure my acne is hormone realted, because I have been on Accutane 3 times (scary I know!) and it really didn't help me at all.
Thanks for all your help... I appreciate it SO much!

Accutane 3 times and nothing? Man that is tough 🙁 Usually, accutane is the last solution, I just hope that changing around your diet can help. I'm sorry to hear about that. What did your doctor say after all that? What was his advice etc?
I know a good amount of spinach broccoli and carrots have been doing well. Get on zinc if you are not on it yet. And of course, the other supps which you feel comfortable with.
If accutane did not work, could it be an allergy to something? There is an option of getting it tested to see what you are sensitive to. It's not absurd that it could be the case.
Also another accutane question, when you were on it, what happened, did it stop oil at all?
And don't even worry, we're all here to help each other, so no thanks needed. 🙂 Since each situation is different, all we can do is keep trying and trying.
i recently bought some fish oil capsules by Nature Made. each capsules has 1,200 mg, so does that mean i only need to take 4 to get 4 grams? or should i take more? you said about 13 capsules a day, i'm not sure but wouldn't that be over 4 grams? and is it bad to overdose on this? sorry for so many questions. i'm overly cautious when taking new stuff.
The nutrional facts of your fish oil are as follows:
Fish Oil Concentrate 2400.0 mg
Omega 3 (EPA) Eicosapentaenoic Acid 360.0 mg
Omega 3 (DHA) Docosahexaenoic Acid 240.0 mg
Since this is for a serving size of two that'd be 300mg a piece. On the first page read part 5 that will tell you how much you should be taking.
Start out slow like most and add more as you move along. Eventually getting to 4+ grams. I am currently at 6 grams.
Hey guys! I began taking fish oil about 2 weeks ago. On the first week I took the recommended dosage on the bottle, 900 mg. This week I started to take double the dosage. Well yesterday I woke up feeling really tired and once I got to work I felt like utter crap! I know I had a fever but I was at work so I didnt have a thermometer at the time. Today I still feel bad (not AS bad as yesterday but still really bad) and my temperature is at 101 degrees. I read somewhere that people can get sick when taking supplements b/c of toxins being released from the body...in other words you get worse before you get better. There is actually a name for the syndrome but i dont remember what it is!
Anyway, the reason I am asking this is b/c I havent been sick in soooo long...probably like 2 years! and now all of a sudden i feel like crap and i dont have a cold or anything. Maybe i was just DUE to get sick or maybe it is the supplements? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?...i am 5'2, 115lbs, am i taking too much fish oil? by the way, my skin is already showing improvements!...i just wish i wasnt sick over the memorial day weekend.

I don't believe it is the supplements, because I cannot make the connection between taking omega 3, which is the equivalent of eating fatty fish, to getting a fever. By the way I'm sorry that your sick, especially this weekend :(.
It actually is meant to aid in the resistance of cold's and flu's
Provides greater resistance to common illnesses such as flu and cold
http://www.mercola.com/forms/carlsons.htm
So it could be a coincidence. Have you eaten any fish before, have you had any allergies to fish? I'm trying to think, but I do not believe there is a connection. What brand are you taking?
