Just wanted to mention this. I have had high blood pressure all my life. I have been taking fish oil for maybe 6 months or so along with cvarious other diet changes over the last couple years. I went to the doctor thwe other day for a check up and to my surprise my blood pressure is normal for the first time ever. it was 120 over 68 which is pretty close to the 120-80, which is considered optimal. My doctor had been suggesting medication for wuite a while but I wanted to give fish oil, diet and exercise a chance. It actually worked.

Wow thats great! I'll let my mum know 😀

No, it doesn't matter, just the combined total. The Boots ones are good too - I was taking them for a while, but the Holland and Barrett ones are cheaper and have the added Vitamin E. Stock up now! They're on offer til the 27th May.

I've looked in to a lot of brands, and it's difficult to know who to trust. So I'm just sticking with brands that I've heard of before. Boots and Holland and Barrett are 2 of them. I've seen some that have 2.4g of Omega 3 per capsule, but I'm not sure whether to trust the quality of the brand.

What brand is that one then?? Yeah, I basically use Boots (and now Holland and Barratt).

I'm trying to find a reputable brand that does it in liquid. Seems easier to take a couple of tablespoons a day, than spreading 10 capsules out (which is particularly hard with my job) - so if you manage to find anything, let me know 😀

Here:

http://www.1stvitality.co.uk/acatalog/nutr...y-fish-oil.html

I've just never heard of them, or the website. It's tough to know who to trust. They also do a liquid, but again, not heard of the brand.

I'm interested in a liquid too, so if you find one, let me know. I've only been able to really find Cod Liver Oil in liquid form, which is no good at all.

I take my capsules in 3 lots; 4 in the morning before work, 2 at lunchtime/early afternoon, and 4 in the evening. Makes it easier to fit into my work day that if I took them all separately. So long as you don't take all 10 in one go, you should be fine. I won't take more than 4 capsules at one time.

By the "1:1 logic," won't you be breaking out when your omega-3 levels are high enough? If your levels are becoming in favor of omega 3, lets say 3:1, won't it be the exact same as before, when it was 3:1 omega-6:omega-3 or what have you? If that's true then how come the Inuits don't develop acne, if they probably have a much higher Omega-3 ratio? Does the ratio really matter, or is Omega-3 just better for you than Omega-6 and we should take as much as possible?

I have no idea if the ratio really matters and I dont think anyone here does. The main thing though is that omega 3 is good for all sorts of things and im pretty sure omega 6 isn't good for much of anything. And if the ratio is true its not the ratio that necessarily causes you to get acne...the point is that we have built up a big deficiency in omega 3 and a lot needs to be taken to level things out. You'd be hard pressed to tilt the ratio in favor of omega 3 like taht but it wouldn't be bad for you because like I siad, omega 3 does all sorts of good stuff for your body that omega 6 doesn't.

Hmm, as someone once told me 'if something seems to good to be true, it probably is'.

I don't think I'd trust that brand. Espesh as people say build up slowly, yet someone starting on those capsules would be taking over 2g in one go to begin with.

It's looking a lot like week 5 is time when people start seeing results. I'm almost there, lets see what happens in this next week or 2.

1500 mg per teaspoon (tablespoon = 1500 mg x 3), yes, i know, am a bit worried about the high doses, but it really works. maybe you do only absorb what you need while the rest is excreted. how much do the eskimos get in then? wil drop to 9 g again.

Wow, that's nuts, how many tablespoons are you getting in a day? That works out to about 12 tablespoons per day to get 18 grams =O. The eskimos get 10 grams I think, not too sure. But doesn't that get pricey?

As long as you have omega 3 equal to, or more than, the omega 6 in your diet... then you won't be breaking out from hormone related causes (in theory of course). But generally when your body levels reach 1:1, you should technically be fine. The more, the better, for sure. Like the inuits, their levels are probably what you described, 3:1 if not more leaning on the 03 side, but as long as it's 1:1 or past that or even close to that, we should be fine. Only time will tell. But the plan is generally that when you are at an ideal stage, you can drop your o3 to as much omega 6 you are taking and still be fine. But I can only wish to get to that point to test it out. Hopefully it's not much longer.

What are your thoughts?

You don't even look like you have acne anymore

Your nose is a bit red, but maybe that's just the flash/flushing, stuff like that, no biggie =)

But as far as your acne, seriously, what acne? =) It's pretty much gone, isn't it?

Yeah it has gone away pretty well so far, this fish oil stuff is working very good. The acne is there, it is just improving.

Since you're girl I'd say it's fine. :surprised: Although if you were a guy....

Seriously though I don't think it is. What else could you associate with taking o3's?

BTW, as of today I'm taking 6.0 grams a day. :)

Haha! That's really funny! Careful that you don't take your capsules in too many doses - otherwise you'll have him permanently on your brain!!

I wonder what it will say on his gravestone:

"ndnromeo: champion of Omega 3 taking"

"ndnromeo: remembered by the fishy brigade"

or maybe:

"ndnromeo: loathed by fish all over the world"

😆

no, if a teaspoon (5 ml) gives you 1,5 g epa + dha, then a tablespoon (15 ml) gives you 4,5 g epa + dha. so 4 tablespoons will amount to 18 g, right! i did not explain very well, did I? or is my maths not that great?

Count Fishula,

Quick question about Zinc, ok to take with the fish oils? or not?

Im not talking mega dosing, just a normal amount. What do you recommend? and how many mg a day? Are you taking it? If so, how many mg a day?

What exactly does Zinc help with? Skin recovery? Would it help with razor burn as well? lol..

I don't know much about zinc, but there are quite a few types. Reason being is I get 100 + % of my zinc from diet and then whatever I get from my multi. But here, I found this:

Zinc & Acne

Zinc is known to help acne sufferers. Whilst the mechanism by which it works is still not fully understood, a lack of zinc has been shown to increase the production of male hormones. There have been several reports of patients who were 'cured' of longstanding acne (one for over 12 years) which were 'cured' with a low fat diet coupled with zinc gluconate supplements. In a controlled study, zinc was shown to have "dramatic improvement" in approximately 60% of acne sufferers. (8) Zinc is found naturally in generous amounts in brewers yeast, whole grains, brazil nuts and pumpkin seeds.

You may want to try a search on the boards, there may be some good threads

I found some for you, good luck 🙂 Or someone may come to answer your question in depth.

Im going to costco to buy some more fish oil tablets tonight, Romeo, which one of these selctions is the best choce? Since you're the fish oil expert and all... what do you recommend? Nature Made?

http://www.costco.com/Common/Search.aspx?w...av-_-Top_search

Price is no factor.

PS. Thaks for the links on Zinc, it seems very helpful if taken properly without mega dosing. I will keep you updated on my progress.

Definitely this one:

It's actually on consumer reports as a recommended brand I believe (if memory doesn't fail me), it's a good brand :). The price is amazing too! Can't go wrong with this one :). The enteric coating helps as well as you won't get fish burps (if you possibly do).

Definitely keep me updated on the zinc, I hope it really does work well for you. In fact, it's the other element dan supplements with daily, along with fish oil.

You recommend those even over the Nature Made? Wow... I didn't know Costco brand was THAT good. lol...

The EPA and DHA is :

Eicosapentaenoic Acid 240 mg, Omega 3 (DHA) Docosahexaenoic Acid 200 mg] - ***.

So that means 440mg of OMega 3 right? The ones I currently take have 180, and 120. so I take 20, to get 6 grams of Omega 3. (.3 x 20= 6.0) So if I want to take around 6grams of Omega 3 daily, I should take 14 of these pills daily right?

Yup, 100% correct 🙂 14 pills

The review concluded it's reasonable to choose a product based upon low cost. Consumer Reports listed two as "best buys": Kirkland Signature Natural Fish Oil, available at Costco, and Member's Mark Omega-3 Fish Oil, sold at Sam's Club.

member's mark and kirklands are best buys =) Because of the really low price and good quality.

Right on. Im going to Costco tomorrow to purchase them. Thanks

As far as Zinc, you should consider Romeo. As long as you keep it below 50mg a day, you will be fine. Read up on some of the threads you provided me with. A LOT of people seemed to have great results, way better then B5 threads I read through.

Zinc is really cheap too.

You can get Nature Made or Walgreens brand ,both are really good.

http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp...amp;id=prod3533

Or Walgreens brand, 50mg tablets, if you want to start of with 50mg right away. Which is ok, just don't take any more then 50mg.

http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp...;id=prod373339#

Look for the ingridients, that list Zinc as Gluconate, which is the highest quality and best for Acne because it absorbed by your body faster then other types of Zinc.
