Romeo, on the front page you say you can eat pretty much anything while taking the Fish Oil. Obviously this means to still make sensible choices, but let's say I wanted some pizza one night...that would be ok?
I'd like to know what kind of diets people are on that are seeing success with fish oil

Yes of course, here is what I wrote, don't know if you saw the updated version
Granted, that since you are taking good amounts of omega 3, you wont have to cut out anything from your diet (unless you are allergic to it). But I strongly emphasize to stay away from nuts, and egg yolks. There is so much omega 6 inside it, that eating 3 can amount to your entire days consumption of omega 3 (almost) rending all those pills useless. If you want to know how much omega 3 and 6 foods have, go to www.nutritiondata.com and type in the food, and check out the ingredient listings. It has them listed. Also, just use your common sense, just eat healthy, dont eat a lot, but eat your fill and stay happy. Dont avoid anything and stress out over it, nothing is bad in moderation, unless you are allergic to it. But generally, the healthier the better.
I eat pizza sometimes and do just fine, because remember, since it does take time for it to build, a day here and there won't stop your omega 3 levels from building as well since you are taking straight EPA and DHA. That's what I love about this, it's as flexible as possible. You set your parameters and see what you can put inside it =).

For sure, you just gotta do everything in moderation. I had a dessert for the first time in like 6 months last night...chocolate cups filled with chocolate mouse w/ whipped cream and berry sauce on top, so good and I haven't broken out. Fish oil = baller.
What were the freezer and bite test again exactly???This morning I took just three of those pills and no more, and they are in my fridge until further notice. What pisses me off are the blatant claims of "Guaranteed Purity and Freshness" in the front of the bottle, and the fact that I JUST bought them and the expiration date is listed as August 2009.
Chances are they are probably fresh.
Do this, bite into one and if it has a bland taste, with a little fishy taste, it's fine. If it's rancid, it will taste like so.
I believe the freezer test is to put one in your freezer, it should stay clear and not become foggy.
Or was it that you had to cut it open and put it on ceram wrap (the sticky stretchy plastic material) and see if it clumps up or stays the same.
The final step you can take to insure freshness of your fish oil capsules is to bite into one and chew it. If it is rancid, youll know it. If it is, throw the whole batch out.http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/?p=148
Well, I went ahead and reluctantly tried the bite test, first by opening up the pill with a fork (man I'm such a coward!) then smelling and licking (minds out of the gutter, now?) the fish oil that came out and THEN going ahead and biting the softgel. The results were........lemony. All I seemed to taste was a rather tasteless, lemony well, taste. My pills being lemon-flavored probably had something to do with it. It left a really oily residue on my mouth and hands though that I cleaned right away. I didn't taste or smell anything remotely rancid though. But what would explain the rather strong smell that comes from inside the bottle? If this is a false alarm, then I guess I'll be merrily on my way back to taking the pills. But man, just biting that one pill has left me light-headed for a couple of minutes or so.

well i would also suggest staying away from high glycemic foods as well, as insulin and acne are also connected, and fruits contain pure glucose and thats not good news for anyone with acne that is why i stay away from fruits now.
the problem autonomousone is that eating any thing consisting of a decent portion of saturated (or monounsaturated) fat gives me chest pains within minutes, and the last thing i want is to be in pain after every major mealisn't saturated fat pro-inflammatory ?
what i really want to do is increase whole food protein intake without touching soy or dairy or nuts/seeds, which means the only reasonable choice apparent to me is more chicken and fish except it isn't feasable to prepare those for breakfast
I would suggest getting refried beans at the store and adding coconut oil to it for added fat calories, throwing some salsa over it and dig in. coconut oil is mainly medium chain fattys acids which are more easily burned for energy and have a minimal effect on blood cholesterol levels compared with that of lonnger chained saturated fatty acids. with a half a can of beans and adding three tblespns of coconut oil i get about 850 calories in an tight little package and its a powerhouse of lasting energy.
but saturated fat, as far as i know, doesnt play any major and direct role in the inflammation process. heres the chart that ive been refering people to to illustrate the concept of fish oil and why it could improve an inflammatory disease such as acne.
as you can see there isnt any role for saturated fats for the production of eicosanoids in the eicosanoid system, only the efas, but that really doesnt mean that saturated fat couldnt play a negative role in acne. Its just i personally dont know of any effect on it except that too much saturated fat is generally bad for health, but no saturated fat in the diet is probably not good so you should get the daily minimun amount and i get mine through butter on my veggies.
I have a very important question. How would vegetarians follow this? Because apparently nuts and other protein stuffies are out of the question since it contains so many omega 6 fatty acids, what's left is like soy products and corn.
beans? refried or in chili? and add coconut or canola oil for added fat calories?
Thanks for the replies about Tocopherol, my last tablets didn't have them in, so it should be a bonus. And they're cheaper - hurrah for sales in the health food shop!
I also have a question yet to be answered (which seems to be quite rare in the 75 pages!):
I am off to give blood on Monday (in my good citizen mode) and it's the first time I will do so since starting on the Omega 3 supplements. Do you think there will be any issues here? I know that the Omega 3 may cuase lower blood pressure, which could be problematic during the donation, but since I can't test my blood pressure at home, or what the safe limits are, I'm not sure if it will be an issue. Also, will there be any concern about the Omega 3 levels in my blood? Or about any possible 'excess bleeding'?!
Thoughts are welcome, as I'm not sure if there are definate answers to this. Would it be best to come off the Omega 3 for a couple of days around Monday?
Thanks,
Helen

Nope, if you have low blood pressure you will know it, you'd probably be lying in bed thinking you are about to faint, lol. You are fine :). And no, you won't have excess bleeding. I take up to 4.5 grams a day and I still blot fine. I had a really small scab yesterday and it was no different. I had a blood test done while I was on 3 grams too and I did fine, and healed faster than anyone else where the mark/bruise was. (Plus the results came back phenomenal).
So keep taking it, it won't hurt you giving blood, probably help lots!
Update for me:
Ive been taking the fish oil since sunday (1000mg with 300mg o3 each pill).
Sunday took 4 pills
Monday took 6
Tuesday took 9
Today will take 12
Tomorrow 14 and stay at that for about 2 weeks and see how my body feels. I feel normal now though. Oil production seems a little less but nothing drastic..at least not yet. Definitely noticed that my bowel movements easily come down. Before i would have to push a whole lot more and it would come out in 2-3 long hard pieces. Now its just a slight push and it seems to be more wet and in many more pieces. Sorry if i disturbed anyone but thats what i actually noticed from the fish oil itself.
I also bought the Red Cross baby brush on monday from target for 3.99. Comes with a cool red cross comb. Its definitely soft. I've tried the jessfoliation before with a toothbrush and it was waaaay harsh. This is so much better. Also I completely dropped my old washing regimen with baking soda, BP wash and witch hazel and now its only this
1.wet face and use baby brush for about 1 minute
2. rinse face
3.use Dove beauty bar soap
4.rinse
I still dont moisturize as im afraid it will clog pores or make my skin feel all shiny and nasty throughout the day. Also i've never tried any Cetaphil brand stuff (facewash nor lotion) so i might think about getting something from their line. Possibly the cetaphil lotion. Also about the Dove bar soap...i might change that to something of liquid form. Maybe even the cetaphil facewash. IDK i'll try this out for a few weeks see where i get and modify from there.
So far since sunday I've gotten only 4 new whiteheads and they're not inflamed but rather just the white/yellow stuff is poking out above the skin. Usually they'd be all red and painful. But i dont feel anything.

Don't worry about pure glucose or sucrose being in fruits. The rise in blood sugar is very minimal when eating fruits because their is enough fiber to slow down their absorption. Your brain has to use glucose, I am not sure if it can make it from fats, but either way their will always be glucose in your body, and avoidng sugar from fruits is not going to help you much.
And besides being good for blood sugar levels, fruits also contain many vitamins and minerals that our bodies need and are usually difficult to get elsewhere.

That's good dude, keep it up 🙂 If you want to use a moisturizer, use aloe vera gel and cetaphil, it's light and does it's job without clogging anything. Good luck!
So I just bought Natural Made Fish Oil capsules two days ago and started taking four capsules a day.I'll see how this works out. 😀
The only thing I'm really worried about is whether the brand I bought is okay or not. Boo! 🙁
That brand is fine 🙂

yes i do understand that every carb gets converted into glucose in the blood stream.
my point was that since fruit contains lots of pure glucose its absorbed immediatly and not even digested. and this is bad i also do not think there is enough fiber in fruit to slow down the absorbtion and i also dont believe the gl rating for fruit is an accurate way of determining its effect on blood sugar, i believe its all in the taste, the sweet taste.
just because the numbers look real professional on that chart doesnt mean the chart is right.I accept information based on evidence i can observe first hand rather then based on trust as science itself is always up for questioning and debate and no conclusion is absolute, things are only within a close range of accuracy.
I'm using Natures Bounty Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000 Mg. I take 12 pills a day. Is this a good brand? Is it common to still be getting spots after a week, a couple big whiteheads. Thanks
Yes, that brand is fine 🙂
Yes, it's normal, you will be getting them even a month in. Remember, this is a long term commitment and don't wake up daily expecting change =) Go about your regular routine, just include them in there permanently, and keep doing what you do. Keep making notes every 2 weeks. It will take a good amount of time.
Did fish oil help anyone's dandruff here? just wondering  Coz I have huge amount of dandruff.

Dry skin is very common in this age of "fat phobia". Most people buy creams and lotions to overcome dry skin that hide the problem but never fix it. Thankfully there is a solution for dry skin and that is to add plenty of healing Omega 3 fats to your diet, which will moisturize your skin from the inside out. Omega 3's make the skin more supple and silky so flaky, scaly, rough itchy skin can be improved by increasing your intake of Omega 3's.Dandruff also responds positively to Omega 3 intake, because dandruff is just dry skin flaking off.
Damn, omega 3 does everything, I wouldn't be surprised if they vacuum my room for me too.
