Since we're on the topic,

NdnRomeo, I was wondering if high doses of protein effect acne or would slow down absorbtion of Omega 3. I lift weights so I take a lot of protein shakes, eat lots of tuna and chicken. You to be an expert in diets, so do you have any idea?

I think bber, autonomous, or ariventa could answer best as I don't know much about the interactions with a high protein diet but I think it's favorable. Protein, besides essential fat, seems to be favorable in good quantities. Unless you have an allergy or sensitivity to dairy, then I can see why whey can effect you, but protein in general is great.

Hey im not sure about the amount of capsules i should take every day to get 3-4 grams omega-3.

My fishoil bottle says this:

3 capsules=

1500 Mg fishoil (18% EPA, 12% DHA)

That means 1 capsule is 500 Mg, 30% of it is omega 3 (EPA, DHA)

500x0.3=150

So every capsule contains 150 Mg of Omega 3.

Lets say id have to take 3 grams a day.

3:0.15=20

So id have to take 20 capsules a day only to get 3 grams?!

My bottle only contains 50 capsules so id have to buy another bottle every 2-3 days. :S

If my calculation is very wrong id like to hear but im confused :S

That's a good idea. Another note, what are some natural sources of vitamin A and do most people get enough in their diet? I know I get lots of D daily from dairy. Plus as you said, since you don't get D since you don't take dairy, it's a great source then! It's perfect for your diet, fits right in there. Do you take it with a source of fat? Since A is fat soluble

I think most people get enough vitamin A in a moderately healthy diet, its in a ton of foods especially vegetables. Yes, I take the A nd D with fat (the cod liver oil), if you're eating a balanced meal, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

What brand did you buy? It looks like you got ripped off because the pills are really weak. If you get 150 mg of omega 3 per pill, that's just too little! It looks like your calculations are right as well

Baby carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, they have almost 300% DV per serving which is around 15,000 IU.

Yeah, I'd definitely try to get a different brand. Anything with 300+ of Omega 3 is good, so you won't be popping 15 pills a day. Do you live in the US? If so stop by a GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, or really any drug store (Meijer, CVS, Jewel Osco), they have plenty of options.

Can somebody clarify the amounts I should be starting with?

The bottle of Omega 3 Fish Oil I bought today has 1000mg capsules, which contain 300mg EPA and 200 mg DHA.

The bottle suggests taking 1-3 capsules per day. By my calculations though, 3 capsules a day is only 1.5g of (EPA+DHA). Is this enough (at least to start?)

Yes, to start it's great :). 1.5 grams is more than I started with. See how that goes for you, then eventually work your way up slowly.

Can anyone suggest some good things to eat for Breakfast? I've been eating Quaker Instant Oatmeal pretty much every morning for the past few months and now I find out that this has alot of Omega 6 in it. Just looking for alternatives

its the ratio that matters, omega 6 are not bad.

ratio of 1-4:1 o6-o3 is in the range that is considered great.

Also please eat a good diet, o3's do a great deal for you, but if you have an adequate amount yet have a deficiency in something else, you may still show signs. So eat well too, or try to do your best and at least get in a multi vitamin (not sure how much gets absorbed). But depending on food to get all your daily intake is the best.

Where does one find fish oil in liquid form? I only saw capsules at the drug store, cod liver oil was the only thing liquid I saw.

So I'm going to see my derm tomorrow. I planned on mentioning to him that I've been taking fish oil (my 3 week mark is tomorrow) - but I'm a little worried to tell him how much I'm taking. I know we've looked into it enough to know that 3-4 grams isn't gonna hurt us, but considering the bottle says to take only 2 to 3 for the whole day, I'm thinking he'll be alarmed.

thanks romeo! youre such a big help :]

no problem, it's my pleasure 🙂 No point in getting clear, if you can't help others feel the same pleasure =)

My face has become better in the past 2 days. (read that as: it has gotten to a point where i can definitively say it has been better and this 'point' has been present for the past two days.)

Perhaps it is down to Omega 3, perhaps something else.

Just wanted to throw some good morale into the fray. 😀

Awesome! What did you change in the past two days, or did you increase the dosage anytime recently? sorry if I can't remember properly due to lots of posts, but what level are you at now and how long have you been on it?

I can't wait 1, 2, and 3 months more down the line to see where we all are, this is exciting!

7 days ago i upped it from 1.8grams to 2.7grams and i believe that made the difference about 3 days later. Now i am on 3.6 grams and this is my second day on that amount.

I have also started the paleo diet as of today.

No potatoes, pasta or bread.

I believe the paleolithic way is the key.

I believe omega 3s can replicate one of the most useful aspects of this but the actual diet will help enormously.

I'll keep you updated.

Hey I checked your first post again and seems like your not taking green tea extracts anymore right? How is that working out?

There's a good chance that it burns around 30% of it.

You could gladly show him this thread, and I am sure he would understand. But I know he'll probably just say taking the recommended dose is fine. Technically it is, if you want to see results eventually. But there is nothing wrong at this level at all. Don't mention how much you're taking. I wouldn't, at least, till i get my full results.

Absolutely amazing, I am glad I stopped it.

I think whole foods also has it. Vitamin Shoppe may have it.

Here's a carlson store locator:

That should help

also think that Paleo / Dr Mercola's No-Grain Diet, combined with O3 of course, is the way to go. something is definitely making my skin more oily on some days, and i don't think its because of a higher intake of O6. insulin resistance perhaps...

Okay I don't know if I've notice a big difference since I've started taking this a week and half (give or take) ago, I've notice some improvement, but all I've notice is that I'm busting out white heads like its the end of the world. I'm not getting the HUGE inflamed ones like I use to get which I guess is a good sign? But the white heads are driving me nuts and they aren't the smalls ones either, you can notice them.

Is there anyway I can stop from getting white heads?, I got them a lot even before I started taking Fish Oil but now Its just annoying.

Is there purging when taking this stuff at first or am I just screwed for the rest of my life

was it because the green tea extract conflicted with the fish oil?
