I'm sure it makes sense, but I don't think I quite understand some of it.. But you are soooo good about helping everyone out, don't waste any time on me.. just tell me if this sounds okay..
I got some liquid Fish Oil today.. no vitamin a and d.. you were 100% on that with the cod liver oil.. I would have been in trouble because I thought it was just a better form of Fish Oil.. ne ways..
I would like to remain taking my Hemp Seed Protein Powder because it seems to help me alot.. I will then add in a few doses of the Fish Oil Liquid.. and just one dosage of the Cod Liver Oil, because I do need a little Vitamin A and D .. plus it tastes so yummy.. sound good??
What are your views on the liquid Fish Oils.?. I always take vitamins and supplements in liquid form if possible
YOU
I believe it sounds like a good plan! Here's what I found
# Hemp Seed Oil has a 3.75:1 Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio (considered optimal). Flax Seed Oil has a 1:4 Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio.# Hemp Seed Oil is a direct source of GLA, Flax Seed Oil is not.
GLA just means it's a good essential fatty acid that comes from omega 6's so that should be fine, I don't think it should hurt your omega 3 intake at all . If you can afford the liquid form, go for it! It stops you from taking millions of gel caps. Get carlson, it's the only really well tested one. Check out their standard for testing, amazing and top notch!
One serving of cod liver sounds fine too . I can't see any harm coming from good fats, go nuts! (well to an extent) lol. Don't drown yourself in it or anything.

I had already got the liquid.. Nordic Naturals from Whole Foods, seems like a good one. If you could tell me a good dosage that would be awesome because I can't figure it out..
Here what it contains:
vitamin E : 30 I.U.
Omega 3s:
EPA 825 mg
DHA 550 mg
Other Omega 3s 350 mg
Total Omega 3s 1725 mg
Oleic Acid (omega 9) 290 mg
btw.. your beginning on the malabsorption and skinny connection... you definately got something there.. I've seen other posts in the past where ALOT of people were saying how they are unusually skinny with acne.. this includes myself. Keep up your findings. I hope everyone appreciates how dedicated and helpful you are as much as me.. Your good deeds will not go unrewarded. Thanks again.
My hair is growing so fast! ARG! I cut my hair short in February thinking it'd be low maintence (it was down to my boobs) and now I am having to get it cut ONCE A MONTH! DEAR LORD!Not a bad thing....just wanted to rant 😉
You are not the only one! i have to get a HAIRCUT once a week! and shave almost everyother day!!! now if that isnt time consuming then im not sure what is...
Quick update. Went to visit my mom yesterday who commented that my face was getting better.
That was refreshing as she was the one who pointed out that I was breaking out a lot last month. Gee Thanks Mom!
I've only got two little break outs right underneath my jawline. Again, I attribute that to my starched shirts & shaving, but it is no where near as Ginormous as my previous break outs. Nothing a little BP can't take care of.
So far so good. I'm just ready for these marks to fade away.
A little off topic here, but I got my two bottles of NOW green tea extract and will begin that supplementation this morning. I'll keep you all posted on that.
ok my friend has been asking me about this fish oil thing. I told her it helps reduce oiliness and overall is very good for the skin. But she doesnt have oily skin, instead she has slightly dry skin.
Since it helps regulate oil production, fish oil should be beneficial to her right?
Hey dudes,
just got some interesting imfo to throw into the pile. This may have been mentioned already but this guy at school yesterday told me that he saw a program about a nature presenter who went to live with inuits.
When he first went he slit his finger (on purpose) and timed how ong it took to stop bleeding.
He then lived there for a few weeks and ate their exact diet.
He tried the finger slit test again and it took three times as long to stop bleeding.
This was to do with the blood pressure thing.
I wonder: if we are merely trying to counter the excess omega 6 then won't it not have a 'too-large' effect on our blood pressure?

the unuits also get 3x (maybe even more) the amount of omega 3 than even we are taking =) Seriously, that's pretty much all they eat, I wish I was there =( I'd have clear skin like woa.
Oh and about the BP, nope, if you just start taking 4 grams then yes, I did that in the beginning accidentally, if it's spread out and ramped up slowly, then nope.
I've been monitoring my BP and it's still 117 over 73 pulse 53 with 4.2 grams. My blood test results are there too in case you want to see =). As long as you don't go into the 6 gram range or even 10, you should be fine. 4.2 is not bad at all.
So to answer your question, you can sufficiently counter the omega 6, and excess on the omega 3 side to over compensate in the beginning and still not have to worry so much about BP etc.
🙂
I still get cuts now and then and I clot great. And when the clot is gone, there's little/no idication of scarring which is good

I don't know what the "other omega 3's" are but for safe measure, since it's a decent amount we'll keep that in. Since one teaspoon is 1.7 grams of omega 3, start with just one. See if everything is alright. Then go to two teaspoons after a few days and stay there for a while. That should be all you need. I hope!
Thanks, I'm looking into this, I think the issue turns out to be that it's not mal absorption, but I need to be eating more, but either way I will continue to see what's with this issue, I appreciate your support!
After reading more about Omega 3 I am going to go tomorrow morning and pick up some some Cod Liver Oil. This is what my grandparents use, as they have been using cod liver oil for years,

I had dry skin when starting this, it got so dry it flaked, then very oily, and now feels normal.

Cod liver oil is not the same as fish body oil. Cod liver is very high in vitamin A which is toxic in large doses. It is quite low in Omega 3's. Look for just 'fish oil' not fish liver oil.
Once again I stopped taking fish oil pills for about two days (after experiencing some fatigue and head throbbing which I still don't know what was about) and am starting over again at 1.2 grams (previously I had been taking 1.8-2.2 grams a day, 3 pills at a time twice a day). Am I a lightweight for not being able to handle what I was taking, or was my head throbbing just a coincidence???
Also, my B100 pills have just about run out. Anyone have any suggestions for a good multivitamin or perhaps a supplement to take alongside the fish oil pills???
You know, I was wondering it sebum could be used as an alternate fuel source of some sort, because I'd gladly donate all of mine to the cause or would let some machine suck my face dry of it because I have TOO DAMN MUCH. To a lesser extent on my back, hair and the rest of my body. I was also wondering, for those of you who have work/school, how do you manage to take fish oil during those times???
Any people, like myself, who are new to starting this, then you should watch out for 'imagining' up ailments. It would be very easy to suddenly start making links with every little ache and pain if you were expecting side effects from the fish oil.
I know for sure that i got a few wierd aches and pains the week before i started taking fish oil, and i thought to myself that if i had started taking them that week then no doubt i would have thought fish oil was frigging me up.
By all means dose it down a while if you feel unsure.
I am on day 4 of this, 6 caps a day. Going to up it to 9 in 3 days time.
Ndnromeo, dya reckon it is safe to take 4 at a time? When i reach 12 capsules (3.6grams) i intended to take 4 caps three times a day.
Plus, how exactly did it feel when you took too many at once?

I agree with you - the day i upped my dose to 2grams i got a nose bleed that lasted a very long time. I'd been taking 700mg per day for months so i'm fairly sure i'm ok with this. But it did freak me out a little. I also noticed that i didn't sleep too well last night (3rd day today) but that could be because of anything really. I'll keep an eye out for anything unusual but i'm keeping an open mind. Still very early days yet - i'm not expecting anything within the first week, but i will keep a close eye on my skin/acne and see what happens.
Has anyone else been drinking more? I seem to be drinking like a fish 😆 , just water but i seem to be thirsty more than usual. Just curious if anyone got that..or if it's just another random thing!

What ayla says is correct, do not use cod liver oil as it is toxic in large doses, stick to omega 3 fish oil instead, not from the liver.
Romeo hows it going for you? are the fish pills working? Btw now I"m eating 12 fish oil pills and 8 B5 pills hmmmm no new breakouts so maybe the b5 is stopping my oil? Can't say much for the fish oil but it seems that the B5 is making me less oily, or so I think anyway.
I don't know if B5 would be good to take with Fish Oil. One of the reasons is B5 creates CoA which aids in digestion and metabolism of fats etc, using it as energy, perhaps there's a chance of interaction where the fish oil is not used. Not too sure (I don't know how they interact, just guessing) But it's up to you, whatever works, just be careful about the b5 side effects.

If you are still having problems stop, it may not be worth it. Or start really low. But you said you are fine now. Stay at 1.2 grams for a while, it's good for the first week or two, take your time 🙂 There's no rush, I assure you.

If you are having a bloody nose, it's because you took too much, and it is mostly related. It's caused by thinning of the blood, often by omega 3. I've seen it say that it can cause it. Did you take 2 grams all at once?

Yeah, that used to happen to me. I waited to expect side effects, and the second it did, I blamed it on that, if or if it wasn't it. I was delusional at times. I guess it's our human nature.
And yes, dosing down is advisable, great point.
What happened to me was at a time I was taking 2 grams, and I wanted to jump to 3. I thought it would be a good idea to split 3 grams, 2 times a day. So I took 5 in one go. To my misfortune, within 2 hours, my BP started to drop. When it drops, you feel light headed and very weak, almost like passing out. You'll lay down and really won't feel like moving. Your body will tell you, and you will know what it is, it won't be in question. I went and took my BP (we have a machine at home) and it was around 100 / 60 somewhere around there. That is too low. So that is a reason why it's important
1) not to take the entire dose in one go, or two doses during the day
2) increase it very slowly till you feel comfortable and spread it well through the day
I hope that answers it well

3 capsules in total - 1 with each meal during the day. I haven't had a nose bleed since, i'm fairly sure it was just a coincidence - even though it did worry me for a while as i saw that it could cause it certain cases too!
Weird thing today (day 4) my acne is a LOT better. I'm not gonna start jumping up and down, as it's way too early - but went to bed last night looking very very bad and woke up this morning looking a lot better. The odd thing about that is, that my acne flares up and subsides a lot - but it usually takes days and days to gradually calm down after a breakout. I'll take a picture later on to compare with a picture i took on the first day.

Congrats Dave! Keep taking it, but go up slowly 🙂 It will get better and better!
Ok, this is reeeally working.
The top of my back, shoulders and chest are completely smooth.
No idea if this is coincidence or not..
I can't get over how smooth my back is! Its never been smooth and soft like it is now.
This summer I may actually be able to wear strappy tops and wear my hair up at the same time and feel confident!
My face is improving, but a lot slower. I may add in another capsule in a couple of days and see how it goes
did anyone experience an initial breakout or something while on these...?
im on week 1.5 of supplementing on fish oils (9pills/day)... also i'm on green tea extracts (3pills/day). i've also started milk thistle capsules (6/day) given by my naturopathic doctor because my blood analysis showed i needed a liver cleanse...
i've been breaking out slow and steady... but i was breaking out before i started taking all of these too... so i dunno if its just my normal breakout or what... but my skin is a mess right now and its really disheartening. my doctor said to maybe expect breakouts because im detoxing with the milk thistle... but ive heard of ppl reacting to that, and also fish oil.
need some support. im getting really fustrated and im thinking i might have to get accutane after all.
Have been on several courses of roaccutane, and after about a month or two, the acne is usually back, worse than before. Fortunately, I do not get any cystic acne, only whiteheads, and lots of them after the roaccutane. In December I started to take fish oil, but for some reason I stopped, not sure why. So I started again about 3 weeks ago after cotemplating whether I should go on another course (which I did not). And I'm glad to say that I am all clear and much less oily, but its still early days (awaiting the period when everything usually flares up). Also taking resveratrol and green tea extract + 4 grams of omega 3. The solgar brand is good, it contains 2,5 grams of omega 3 per dose of 4 pills, so I only take 3 in the morning and 3 at night. Omega 3 is great!!!

so omega 3 got u pretty much clear?
accutane is my last resort... i have been trying everything holistic but its getting been disheartening to see mediocre results. my acne is mild, sometimes cystic though, but i go through clear phases and then breakout phases. but my face is covered in red marks so my skin always looks like crap even when im clear (which is kinda why i dont want accutane because it'll prolong the healing time for my red marks).
i am really hoping omega 3's will help, and the liver detoxing. when i went to the naturopath, he took a blood sample and showed me a microscopic view of my blood. it was cool, and i could see the problems directly. clumping of red-blood cells, indents... (caused by lack of enzymes and omega 3s) lots of spricules which indicate liver congestion/stress... cholesterol crystals and bacteria specks.... etc. so im hoping if i fix all these problems, my skin problems will go away.... *prays*
im also going to go back to cutting out grains... ESP refined... like white rice. i noticed that a few weeks back when i did this... my mood seemed to be more stable, and i would wake up with energy in the morning without needing an alarm clock. (not to mention my skin was better then too). i notice that if i eat refined sugars... i get VERY blahhhhh feeling right away and easily irritated.... hmmmm....

carbs are actually not essential to a healthy diet as all you need is protein and fat, just think of eskimo diets.
I would suggest you cut your carb intake and increase your saturated fat intake preferably from coconut products coconut milk, dried coconut, coconut cream etc. coconut cream and coconut milk are easy to buy canned in the ethnic food section of your grocery store and are inexpensive. Dairy is another way to get good saturated fat intake but dairy production standards these days are not the best unless you buy organic or raw. whole milk or cream cheese is a decent source of saturated fat.

fish oil boosts collagen production.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...l=pubmed_docsum
the degradation of collagen is a hallmark of degenerative diseases and is one of the genetic changes in acne skin due to nf-kappa activation. this study(as well as other available studys) says epa can inhibit nf-kappa activation and lead to new collagen formation(good for acne and arthritis) nf-kappa is a master gene switch which when activated can causes bad changes in your genetic code and is present in acne, cancer and other inflammatory diseases http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NF-kappa_B#Ac...n_of_NF-.CE.BAB
