I was taking cod liver oil liquid.. I am going to begin taking it again, and also work my way up to a higher dose after reading this thread.. I currently add Hemp Protein Powder into my Protein shakes which I feel helps my skin very much. To my understanding it has a good balance of Omega 6s to Omega 3s.. Is there a problem with using this in conjuction with the fish oil as far as Omega 6s go?? Please explain..Thanks alot, great post.
We get too many omega 6's in our diet without doing anything so focus on just omega 3's.
If you take cod liver oil, you will be limited since you also need to find out the upper level intake of the vitamins which come in cod liver oil and you shouldn't overdose on those. I believe it's vitamin A or D, hence just taking fish oil is best. Because if you take up to x amount in omega 3's from cod liver oil, chances are you may put yourself at risk of ODing on vitamin A and D which is bad.
If you start out with a balance of omega 3 to 6, it could take up to 6 months or even more to get at a balance, hence over compensating in the beginning is necessary, as it will get to it much quicker (in a couple of months, rather than many months). Plus there is a particular reason for taking 4 grams, rather than just balancing, as balancing omega 3 to 6 is good, but for our cases not best (for a particular cause).
Hope that makes sense.
I'm sure it makes sense, but I don't think I quite understand some of it.. But you are soooo good about helping everyone out, don't waste any time on me.. just tell me if this sounds okay..
I got some liquid Fish Oil today.. no vitamin a and d.. you were 100% on that with the cod liver oil.. I would have been in trouble because I thought it was just a better form of Fish Oil.. ne ways..
I would like to remain taking my Hemp Seed Protein Powder because it seems to help me alot.. I will then add in a few doses of the Fish Oil Liquid.. and just one dosage of the Cod Liver Oil, because I do need a little Vitamin A and D .. plus it tastes so yummy.. sound good??
What are your views on the liquid Fish Oils.?. I always take vitamins and supplements in liquid form if possible

I believe it sounds like a good plan! 🙂 Here's what I found
# Hemp Seed Oil has a 3.75:1 Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio (considered optimal). Flax Seed Oil has a 1:4 Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio.# Hemp Seed Oil is a direct source of GLA, Flax Seed Oil is not.
GLA just means it's a good essential fatty acid that comes from omega 6's so that should be fine, I don't think it should hurt your omega 3 intake at all :). If you can afford the liquid form, go for it! It stops you from taking millions of gel caps. Get carlson, it's the only really well tested one. Check out their standard for testing, amazing and top notch!
One serving of cod liver sounds fine too :). I can't see any harm coming from good fats, go nuts! (well to an extent) lol. Don't drown yourself in it or anything.
If you decide to get liquid, or not, just let me know so I can recommend your dosages =)
I just got 800 pills in the mail (member's mark 400 count). I immediately opened one and did a rancid test. I bit into one and it tasted bland and silky with a hint of fishy taste, but not rancid. I almost threw up because I usually don't even eat fish and I hate fish (ironic isn't it?). I also did a rancid test with the remainder of my old bottle (it had under 30 pills to go) and the taste is replicated exactly. I swear these softgels hold up to heat really well (and this is texas). I immediately stored them away.
So I'm in for a long time. At least for another 57 days =)
 Oh puke! I bit one of mine, it's fine - no real taste - but ugh! Nasty...Update - One zit on left cheek. Chicken skin on left elbow. Scalp continues to be flakey  Boobs - 😀 Still thrilled!
HAHA!! You did it too  Yeah, that funk was weird, tasteless, yet fishy!
Is your chicken skin going? Mine's on the verge of completely disapearing! left arm almost completely smooth, right arm almost!
hmmm i'm not sure if it is an allergy because the odd thing is before I took fish oil I had worst skin and it got better afterward. So I don't really think it could be an allergy the brand I have is nature made.
Try and stop for a while, see how it goes, then try it again, if the same thing happens stop. It may be the brand, or the ingredients. Next, try the liquid instead if you are willing to continue. There has to be something
How long are the fish oil capsules supposed to last if gone unused? I have some from 4 months ago, but am afraid to use them. I will probably get some next week, but if I can use the old ones, I could start this week.
Bite into one 🙂 If it's rancid, you'll know. Otherwise it will taste normal, but with a fishy taste.
I think vitamin E in fish oil helps preserve it? Mine has 30 i.u vitamin E.btw, if I only take one or two pills a day, when do you recommend me taking the pills? Morning, afternoon or night?
Yup, vit e preserves it from oxidation (rancidity).
Hm if you take only one or two, it's up to you, preferably with your biggest meal (with the most fat). But just don't expect too much to happen at those doses for your skin
Hope that helps

Oh yea thanks a lot. You've been a great help.
Hey NdnRomeo, are you totally clear now? I don't mean just from fish oil capsules alone, but with everything else you do. Is it all very effective for you?
Funny you ask right now, I was literally just sitting here thinking about posting the progress, but to answer your question in short. It's amazing how it works. My back is completely dry. Now any bumps on my back are just waiting to go away and it will be clear and smooth (first time ever by the way), I shouldn't count by chickens before they hatch. In the middle, I was clear but oily. Somehow the acne came back but this time it won't because I'm dry, comfortable normal skin type dry. I stopped using head and shoulders too and any moisturizer there. There's no scaley skin, but more like the skin on the lower back, just normal. I've never had that feeling before ever.
Also, the oil on my face is shrinking away like a lake that dries up. First it starts drying up on the outsides of the lake, then the middle. It's my t-zones, slowly drying up on the outsides and going in. My cheeks never get oily now, ever (first time again), and my forehead is getting drier (starting from the sides going in). My nose still gets oily, but much less, and it's the last portion to go (the center portion of my face), including between my eyebrows. It may take another month or two to fully go away like it is on my temples of cheeks but it's bound to happen, I just know it (hopes so) as my omega 3 content in my body goes up and past equilibrium.
The baby brush and washing regimen is never changing, it's so amazing, seriously. I've used the moisturizing technique for months too. So I guess I'm set and clearing. I just am getting impatient because you keep expecting further results, but it's also natural to get small set backs so it fluctuates.
But when I look back 2 months back, I've jumped leaps and bounds from where I was, definitely not a coincidence. In 2 months time I hope to be sitting here saying happily that I'm 100% clear, and that acne is not possible for me, much like it's not possible on my chest, or my cheeks anymore, as opposed to 2 months ago.
Also, my keratosis pilarsis is almost gone! It is an omega 3 deficiency and it's amazing how it really was true. But it's not gone yet, implying I'm still at a deficit in my body, but it's close, soon.
I do remember though, that 6 weeks in I was still questioning this and doubting, but I never spoke out because it was too soon to tell, and I had to be realistic and logical about all of this. But it pays off, truely.
I hope that helps
Well, I got my blood test results back (2 months back I said I would have one done) and my results are pretty goodHDL = 52
LDL = 86
VLDL = 7
Total Cholesterol = 145
Triglycerides = 36
What the numbers mean:
Total cholesterol level* Less than 200 is best.
* Between 200 to 239 is borderline high.
* 240 or more means you're at increased risk for heart disease.
HDL cholesterol levels
* Less than 40 means you're at higher risk for heart disease.
* 60 or higher reduces your risk of heart disease.
LDL cholesterol levels
* Less than 130 is best.
* Between 130 to 159 is borderline high.
* 160 or more means you're at higher risk for heart disease
Triglyceride Level Classification
Less than 150 mg/dL Normal
150-199 mg/dL Borderline-high
200-499 mg/dL High
500 mg/dL or higher Very high
thats why japan and the prefecture okinawa had the longest lived people and least disease risk on the planet, with an average total cholesterol of 150mg/dl 😆^ Found that on some sight:
http://forum.lowcarber.org/archive/index.php/t-51907.html
green tea + omega 3 in optimal amounts = super Japanese diets = mimicking life expectancy of the longest living people on earth.
Mines slightly even better than theres right now, this was before taking 4.2 grams 😎
But I have a concern, which I am going to look into. My triglycerides are tooooo low. I looked it up, and it's a sign of mal absorption. I am aware fish oil does that, BUT, Even before fish oil, I was very very skinny no matter how much I ate. I am going to look into what I can do to enhance my absorption, I have a feeling that has to do with so much of the big picture. I have a feeling many people here are skinny too, there may be a big connection. I am irregularly skinny, I always have been, more so than anyone I know of. A few people I know are on the same boat (past normal skinny), and they both have a lot of acne.
Hey,
the numbers are looking hella good  are you cler now? with everything else your doing together:)
I tried taking 2-3 of those gree tea pills and it gave me diareah :shifty: . maybe I should just take one? LOL
OH and not all of us are skinny like you 😉 But I wouldn't mind giving you some of my fat??

if you dont eat alot of carbs and theres is no fat to burn, your body burns dietary protein then muscle and when you are burning muscle thats bad, lots of protein like 1 gram per pound body weight if possible and lots of fat calories some from dairy and alot more from coconut and coconut milk, you may be able to get some calories from olive oil as well.
Also it might help to go to a 4:1 ratio of o6:o3 as well if youve been on 1:1 for a while that way you can increase your omega 6 fat consumtion a bit, butits good idea to focus on the saturated fats for energy and fat calories and hopefully you should start to gain weight after increasing fat calories.

Yesh, start out with 1!! LOL, taking that much will give you an upset stomach in the beginning. 🙂 And please, do give me some fat! I want to fill in shirts

After you posted that, I took it to heart immediately because you were right about the saturated fats. I'm not worried or scared about it anymore as it was irrational. As for carbs, I get too much, but it's in the form of wheaties, oatmeal, multi-grain pasta, whole wheat bread, lentils etc. I'm also going to try to add in more protein from chicken and some whey more readily to get to that 1 gram per day too (soon but slowly adding it up).
Thank you so much!
By the way, what's your bmi ? Even though not accurate and including muscle, are you over/under weight?

My acne has also had the lake effect of going away, i dont get any acne at all on my jawline none at all for two months ive been on fish oil but ive broken out around my bottom lip quite a bit and im pretty sure it was from my excess fruit sugar intake from bananas.

You should give it to everyone who contributed in the thread, it's because of them I even bothered. If it wasn't conclusive, I would have just not had the heart to gone on (knowing myself). All the research they posted is amazing, never even knew it existed!

Oh, banana's are high GI isn't it? I'm still trying to figure out why oil production is generally higher in the morning than evening. In the evening I get nothing, 0, in the morning it goes crazy. Do you think sunlight somehow effects oil production? I have a 40 minute drive to school evening morning with the sun beaming in my face, it seems an hour after that I'm oily. Also, a possibility is that test levels are 30% higher in the morning.
Do you have the same problem too?

I can give you 25 pounds of fat

no not really. and yea bananas are really high gi and lots of sugar i was eating 1 a day sometimes two for like two weeks straight not to mention all the juice i was drinking, it was my bump in the road while i was taking fish oil so now ive really really narrowed it down to excess omega 6 not enough omega 3 and too much sugar. after cutting out sugar to 20 grams or less a day a week ago im finally recovering and clearing up very nicely.
Im still taking fish oil because it gave me 100% clearness for like two weeks straight although it been up and down over the whole two months the ups and downs could be attributed to crappy fish oil and too much sugar intake from my over confidence in results!!
