this may have previously been adressed, but do vegetarians have such an imbalance?
You might not ever catch this response; but I would have to say that yes, vegetarians are just as likely to have a 3:6 imbalance.
In fact, they might even be more likely to have an imbalance, because when nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, and soy replace meat and dairy as a protein source, the 3:6 ratio is skewed higher.
I've been taking Omega-3 supplements for a month and a half know and my acne has cleared wonderfully. The results are great but I was wondering if anyone had answers to my rather odd questions...
How long should we all consume these supplements?? What happens if we stopped consuming them? would the acne return????
Hey! Can someone please tell me which form of fish oil is best between capsules and liquid? And explain why; because if I'll buy a bottle of fish oil I should ad BHT an unhealthy preservative and for the pils they might be rancid?! How can I tell if they're rancid? I don't like the taste of any fish; is there a different color or consistency that might notice me that the fish oil is rancid?

I don't think it matters what form you take it in, but I buy the capsules because they seem to be easiest for me to take/handle the taste of. You want to buy a good quality brand that has good processing and filters out impurities and potential chemicals/toxins that might be in the fish. The Carlson brand with orange oil is my favorite. It masks any fishy-ness.
As an acne sufferer, I feel I must post something.
I started getting deep acne after the use of benzoyl peroxide and salicyclic acid, maybe some irritants were in them but the condition became chronic from about 18-19 to now (21). I was reading all these pages and was absolutely astonished with all the positive results but after taking omega 3 fish oil for 2 months now at a relatively high dose (2 teaspoons a day) I have to say this disappointed me.
At first, I would see improvements but then about once a week, I would always erupt with new pimples. It did improve a bit initially (barely) but my acne has been consistent now for 2 months. I hope this works for some but it didn't work for me and I'm kind of disappointed because this is the most popular thread on the hollistic health page. Now I'll try B5.
For those concerned with the safety of the Fish Oil supplements, here's a little article I came accross today.
"Analysis finds fish oil supplements safe
By Elizabeth Weise, USA TODAY
Consumers who want to take advantage of the cardiac benefits of fish oil supplements but were concerned about possible mercury and PCB contamination can pop their pills in peace.
ConsumerLab.com, which evaluates nutritional and health supplements, found that of 41 fish oil supplements tested, none were contaminated with mercury or PCBs.
Omega-3 supplements generally are made from fish oil, although they can be derived from algae. In fish-oil-based pills, the oil is distilled to filter out contaminants. Also the fish used to make pills tend to be younger and smaller than the fish we eat, meaning they have had less time to accumulate toxins.
"With all the news this year with mercury in this fish and dioxins or PCBs in that fish, people were concerned. So it put to rest in our minds the issue of purity," says ConsumerLab.com president Tod Cooperman.
Mounting evidence suggests a diet that includes plenty of omega-3-rich fatty fish such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, salmon, sardines and albacore tuna can reduce the risk of fatal heart attacks.
"If you eat fish at least once or twice a week, you can cut your risk of dying (suddenly) by 30%, and it seems to be true as well for fish oil pills," says David Schardt, a senior nutritionist with the Center for Science in the Public Interest."

This article sold me on my theory that Dr. Mercola's krill oil supplements are a load of BS. His rationale behind them is that krill are too small to accumulate mercury--now we know that regular old cheap fish oil doesn't have mercury, either.

expiration date, maybe it isn't the supplements. what other things are you doing to help your skin? you may be dehydrated. or your skin may be. i don't know because you haven't posted any thing else with your regimen.
the reasons why so many people get so many different results is because we all do different things topically to our skin.
i would suggest a gentle natural cleanser that doesnt strip your skin of it's natural oils and irritate it. all those acne medications and junk irritate the skin.
the lotions and creams you get from the store are horrible for the skin. all they do is wet the skins surface layer weaking it and weakening its ability to hydrate itself/protect itself from bacteria.
i suggest you use only aloe vera gel 100% gel from lily of the desert, the one you can use on skin as well as eat, or use oils like jojoba or emu oil lightly.
please take care of yourself and don't leave defeated and disappointed. God bless you! 🙂
Hey new to the forum. I joined with the intent of helping other people. I have successfully had clear skin for several months without using face cleansers and whatnot. I noticed a much better result when I took krill oil as opposed to fish oil. Krill oil is high in antioxidants and omega-3s, and fish oil does not have these antioxidants. It's absorbed much better by your body than fish oil is, so I only take 2 krill oil in the morning and that's it. With fish oil I found that I had to take close to 10 capsules per day and I felt that this affected my digestion; and optimal digestion is very very important for good healthy skin.
Also, this I haven't tried however I recently read about people having great results with Omega-7. I haven't tried it as I don't personally feel the need to at this time, but there's no harm in learning about it.
I want to buy fishoil and zinc where is the best place to buy them? Online or at the grocery story?
Shouldn't matter too much where you buy them, but the quality between the brands can differ.
I suggest getting fish oil under the Kirkland brand from Costco--cheap, but high quality and you can be assured about the purity from heavy metals.
just thought i'd drop by and say i've been using bp and taking 6grams of fish oil per day and not only is my face not as dry, but my complexion, skin tone, and overall health have been affected massively too. I dont know why i didnt try this earlier, but after 2 months of doing this regimen everything is consistantly completely clear. thanks for the thread!
just posting to maybe help someone else. my niece had mild-moderate acne for about 2 years, then it worsened to moderate plus for about one year, or so. she attacked this on a multi level approach and has become 90% clear and she is getting better each week. Despite all the bad reviews re: acne & b.c. pills, she tried 2 differnt b.c. pills for a few months (each one) and it did not improve, but worsen a bit the acne. she stayed on the yasmin though for the time being. for anyone interested in what worked for her this is what she did. 1. Diet. Very low sugar & very sparingly. She eats whole grain bread (sparingly), fresh oatmeal (sparingly) "Dreamfields" pasta, which is lower glycemic (sparingly), fish, lean meat, vegs (no asparagus, no white potatoes), fruits (no dried), nuts (no peanuts). She totally gave up milk & cream (butter sparingly) and makes raw unsalted cashew milk in the blender (incidentally tastes better than milk) for her oatmeal. She has completely given up on food prepared with IODIZED SALT. Although we acknowledge iodine is needed etc., we dont want the mega doses that may be in iodized salt. as most places heavily salt in food prep. we decided to cut that out. who knows, maybe this is why some people break out after eating the westernized fast food diet. We emailed all restaurants, grocery products etc. containing salt to find out if the salt is iodized or not. she also puts one teaspoon of acv in each glass of water she drinks. No fish oils (iodine) she eats fish (good enough) and she takes a reg. dose of zinc per day and vitamin d too. 2. red and blue light. she uses the light bulbs exactly like the ones used in the successful study - so we ordered from intelligent light acne treatment sci light. they have a good refund policy etc. too. she uses both lights for about 8 minutes per day 3. after shampooing conditioning she dabs acv/water dillution on her face to breakdown ingredients , chemicals in those products. now her skin near the hairline area is COMPLETELY clear. Washes her face with the only product we could find without irritating chemicals Boscia and also Juice. Toothpaste - only toms of maine , (no whiteners) 4. Makeup. Although makeup is not good for acne prone skin, she still likes that transparent but air brushed look and does not want to completely give it up. She gave up bare minerals (bismuth, salt related and other ingredients) and uses "inika" which does not use some of these ingredients & appears to be better for skin. Well thats about it and she is enjoying her clear skin. Hope this helps at least one person who reads it. My best to everyone!
