so wait are you using olive oil as your main omega 6 supplement? Like are you on a diet with low omega 6 and are getting most of it from olive oil? I'll consider adding olive oil to my diet if its helpful in this but I really dont monitor my diet all that much so I already get plenty of omega 6...
In the US, there is no legal definition of extra virgin. Therefore, it's all the same crap, everything here says extra virgin, and the US has become a dumping ground for less-than-awesome olive oil from the EU.I believe "fancy" is a definition close enough to extra virgin. It may be in small print somewhere.
Even though the IOOC (International Olive Oil Council) does not govern what goes on the United states, the USDA uses it's own system of measurement, whatever it is. But still assured, I wouldn't even classify it all in the same boat, therefore just being content with whatever. Extra Virgin is still what I would use. I don't support anything else.

I read this thread and im kind of confused... i bought Fish Body Oils 1000 from GNC and I try to take about 3 with every meal. is that the right stuff? and i take vitaclear from proactive in the morning... its 4 pills and i take that along with my fish oil. it doesnt seem to be helping much so im thinking maybe they dont work well together? any help would be appreciated 😛
Sure, tell me the rest of your diet as well 🙂 We can try to find something in there as well. It may be your omega source is fine, we can work on something else that could help you.

I found that olive oil actually does more than that. It wasn't the omega 6 content that helped, it was the squalene and how it actually blocks the mobilization of omega 6's metabolite that causes so many problems (arachidonic acid) hopefully I spelled it right, it's late at night hehe. About a few posts back or on the last page there's a whole bunch of links, check it out. Also the antioxidant and polyphenol content. I'm surprised how much I did not know about this
NDNROMEO
I have been reading all of the differnet threads on here and my head is spinning. I think that i eat alot of EVOO in my diet and various other things (flax seed in my smoothies, eggs, peanuts). I suffer from cystic acne, probably hormonal, and i have thought of adding CLO supplements daily. Can you reccomend a good regime for me to use to get the right amt of n3,6,9?

Well, I don't know exactly what I eat because its always completely different than the last day. But lets see, I never drink soda, I try to stay away from milk, but in the morning i will have cheerios with milk occasionaly. For lunch I either have a chef salad with ranch or a turkey sub and at my school it comes with tater tot type things, orange juice and a water. For dinner I usually eat mostly meat.. hamburgers, steak, tacos, pork chops and I eat fish every once in a while(I'm having fish tonight :))
I drink 8-10 bottles of water a day and most of the time i have a green smoothie that i make with strawberries, bananas, and spinach. 6-9 fish oil capsules a day and vitaclear. Thats about it.

That's a pretty good regimen you seem to get a lot 🙂 Do you take any other supplements like zinc, vit e, vit a?
I would definitely add in etra virgin olive oil. I am eternally greatful for the difference it has made for me. I take 5 doses spread through the day in my food (it's easy).
For example, add it to your salsa, pastas, mixed with salsa and added to your fish even, any meats. It's limitless
Hi,
I'll try to keep this quick since there are millions of posts and a lot of similar questions.
I've been using 5200g/d of Borage Oil + 2400g/d of Lecithin with amazing results. My skin cleared within one week's time - I even got daring enough to stop all topicals, and it remained clear! However, the GLA that's so imperative for clearing skin is also an omega-6...something that has taken a lot of heat on this thread.
After doing a fair amount of research, it appears that Borage Oil may not be good for you long-term (see the thread under the Holistic Site titled "Evening Primrose Oil - Pretty Shocking Results). There are side effects ranging from depression all the way to Alzheimer's disease. Even worse, not enough studies have been conducted on it to warrant it safe for long-term use.
That being said, I've only been on the stuff for a week so I'm not going to stress over finishing off one measly bottle of capsules. But I've bought a high quality fish oil from Carlson's like everyone has raved over and plan on incorporating that into this current mix. Once the Borage Oil is gone, I'll try to rely solely on the fish oil and see what happens.
Could someone tell me how much liquid fish oil they're taking each day? I don't always fully understand these gram conversions like 1.6, etc. I'm a simple guy - I need it in tablespoons. Btw, the one I chose is Carlson The Very Finest Fish Oil/Omega 3s DHA & EPA. The levels of DHA and EPA in one teaspoon are 500mg & 800mg, respectively, and the total amount of omega-3 per serving is 1600mg. Thanks for the help.
Ok its been awhile since Ive been on these boards. During the end of spring and some of the summer I was on fish oil with about 4-5 grams of Omega 3 daily intake. And was washing my face with only water and baby brush about 2-3 times a day. I will tell you this...based on pictures that from that time and from now. I was actually better off. I was still getting 3-5 pimples a week but most noticeable was all the red marks that had faded. My face was really oily too but it was a good oil, but nonetheless I still hated the shine. My diet was also full of fast foods I guess I ate like a maniac and relied on the measly fish oil capsules to do the work for me. Retard!
IDK what hit my mind but maybe 3 months into that I decided to try to find something better. I bet if I stayed longer and supplemented zinc, and other vitamins I couldve cleared up quick but instead I looked into SA washes. BP washes. BP creams. Exotic soaps. Used them on and off and my face went to shit but I guess i didnt want to accept the fact that it did because these chemicals have to be doing something good to my face if im paying for them right? WRONG! Keep in mind that at the same time i pretty much just quit fish oil supplement altogether.
So here I am again. Back in Square 1 and ready to change my lifestyle for the better. I am a 22 year old fed up with acne. I pretty much read all the new things about olive oil, CLO, and peanuts and the right amount of fat etc in this thread. I remember when it was purely about taking O3 fatty acids and as much of it as you can lolol.
I used the nutritiondata.com pantry thing and I ended up with this. That website is amazing!!
Here is what I got. I already added the the CLO and peanuts and olive oil into it. It says it is strongly anti-inflammatory which i guess is always a good thing.
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00021C...hG-01c201h.html
Is my Vitamin A too much? Shit!!
I originally had In N Out double double w/ fries in there since I was eating that about 3 times a week. Wow..it was too crazy. No wonder my face always felt tacky with the oils. And the inflammatory spectrum was the complete opposite.
I am going to go buy some supplements today and will report back here as often as I can. CLO, zinc, B complex and Vit E. Maybe chromium because i see people taking that. Let me know If i am missing something.
And for foods definitely peanuts, olive oil, good whole grain bread. Some veggies and fruits. i think the last time I put an actual fruit (apple, banana, orange etc) in my mouth was months ago.
BTW I am 5'10" about 130 lbs. So I also want to gain weight.
Wish me luck!!

1g = 1000mg
so
1600mg = 1.6g
If you are shooting for about 3g (3000mg) then take 2 servings which would mean 2 teaspoons in your case. Are you sure its teaspoon or tablespoon?
So you will be taking 3.2g of O3 fatty acid which is good.
Thanks for the gram conversion, Toxic. I checked the bottle again and one serving is in fact a teaspoon, not a tablespoon. So it looks like I'll be doing a teaspoon in the morning and one in the evening to get a little over 3g.
Calla Lilly, I don't think anyone is saying that the fish oil capsules are "bad." But the liquid might have a better absorption rate and also seems to be more potent than the capsules. Plus the particular brand I bought actually tastes good and has no aftertaste whatsoever. It's expensive though, but if it works, then I don't care about the money.
umm the vitamins i take have 30 mg zinc, 5000 IU of vitamin a, and 100 IU of vitamin E. and btw i forgot to add that i eat a lot between meals and sometimes its junk food. im 15 and i play football so i basically eat whatever, whenever.
that's pretty god then, you're also active. How bad is your acne? I say just try adding the EVOO and see how you do

Yup and also the purity factor. almost 100% pure, can't beat that 🙂 No second guessing involved or wondering about it. I just use it now because some people say capsules make them worse, so I guess the fillers have something to do with it, not too sure, but hey better be safe than sorry. Plus the retinol in CLO is really helpful. I take 1 dose of cod liver oil (twin labs) and 1 dose of liquid fish oil (carlson) daily.
Hey guys,
just wanna check if I've got the full package now: cod liver oil, zinc, vitamins b,c,e, calcium/magnesium, chromium. Plus I've started eating peanuts and I'm taking 3 servings of EVOO daily. Took me some time to get all the stuff (here in Holland all the good brands are unavaiable) but I guess I've got it all now. Oh yes, I'm eating pretty healthy for a while now (lots of fruits, vegetables, but still lots of potatoes..which is typical dutch..) and I'm working out 4 times a week.
Really hope it's gonna work. Good luck to you all.
NdnRomeo: I thought I've heard you say that jojoba oil cloggs your pores...I've been using this oil for a long time since it's a good moisterizer...but I've stopped a while ago because I think it cloggs my pores as well...I get this feeling when I'm stresssed or under pressure, like the oil wants to come out but is blocked...resulting in stings all over my face. Now my skin is extremely (!) dry and flaky...but I guess my oil production is a bit less already...so I'll just hope the EVOO will moisterize my skin from the inside out ? Anyway, I was wondering if you still moisterize and what you're using. Thanks!

its moderate/severe. i have quite a lot of pimples on my forehead and i have them on my chin and around my mouth, and i just started getting them around my temples and like right below there (i think its because of the football helmet because i havent had them before) and football just ended about a week ago and i think they will clear up. Btw when should i take EVOO and im kind of confused on how to take it... can you just take a tablespoon and just take it directly or does it have to be on food?

you can take the olive oil any way you want. However, fats help your body absorb vitamins, so it's best used on vegetables and salads, aiding in absorption of the plethora of nutrition contained therein. It's like a two-for-one benefit.
I've had my bottle of GNC Norwegian CLO for about a month now, but haven't exactly been taking it every day as I often try to space it out from my 2X a day GNC Mega Men Multi-Vitamin doses. That being the case may explain why I haven't seen much results.
In my latest does however, I've been noticing like a visibly oily/greasy film within the oil, I've kept it inside my (very cold) fridge all of this time. Think of the stuff you see on oil and cholesterol collected from food, something like that. Is this normal in CLO?
Also, with the small 5mg doses that are required, and I REALLY getting out of such small doses that go down so easy?
Eat the widest range of foods possible. Suggesting the intake of olive oil does not mean one should limit all other foods in favor of one or another. All foods have advantages over one another, sometimes as simple as price or personal taste. DO as you wish and take both.
So ive been having 1 or a little less servings of walnuts and about 2 servings of olive oil a day and then just trying 2 eat low fat otherwise and its working good. I was taking life extensions fish oil but any brand i try always breaks me out and i get really oilly. Ive read somewhere that if you break out from it then you have 2 gradually get into taking it so im gonna try that soon- like starting at 1 capsule every other day for a few weeks, then 1 aday....
Hey guys check this article out. It's a great article on how fish oil and olive oil work in unison as anti-inflammatories and arachidonic acid suppresors and goes on about how the addition of sesame lignans prevents the fatty acids oxidation etc. Sure, there fish oil product contains the three, but it is very informative and quotes many studies.
Sadly, I've taken this fish oil as well as many others including carlons and ones with no fillers. My face looked the best on this (toned, supple) but I got pimples on my forehead after about a week of taking it (all others i broke out in a day or 2). But the fact that it took a week with this brand makes me think it was possibly sumthing else, so i will test it again in the future.
Anyway, its a good read further supporting this thread!
Thanks for sharing this article. I think I might try this one as well. I haven't seen any impressive results from using Carlson's fish oil and eating a healthy diet, that's for sure. I have two active spots on my mouth/lips, one on my chin, and one on my cheek. I'm also drinking two green smoothies a day full of fresh spinach and fruits as well as chugging down a glass of psyllium husk powder in water before bedtime to keep my system flowing. Meanwhile, my face still looks irritated and broken out.
Do you still think it's a good idea to incorporate extra olive oil into your diet even though you're getting it in these capsules? I figure it can't hurt if I still use it on all my salads or in cooking, etc. But amazing results? So far, no. I'm hitting a new low with all of this stuff anyway. I already removed all dairy from my diet, eat healthy, use all these supplements, apple cider vinegar 3X a day for MONTHS, borage oil, evening primrose oil, olive oil, all natural foods, natural deodorant, natural shampoos, tons of water...and the acne just keeps on coming. I even tried using my own urine, for Christ sakes!! I feel like a 38-year-old teenager embarrassed to show up to work because I have zits on my face. Am I missing something here or did all these other people only have success for a month and then quit because it stopped working? How can none of these things have any affect on my acne?? Sorry for the rant - it's getting harder and harder to be positive after 22 years of this shit. My acne might be mild for the most part, but that's not the point. The point is that it's always there, day after day, with no end in sight no matter what avenue I've gone down. I must be missing something...
I'd say its good to keep using evoo. The supplement only provides the anti-inflamatory polyphenols, not the omega 9 fats that the actual olive oil supplies. Its good in salads cuz fat helps absorb the nutrients better. Also, the oil should be in the place of some of the less beneficial fats you would usually consume. In other words, you should still be getting the same amount of fat that you normaly would be getting.
Also, everyones body is different and reacts differantly to different things. I find that if I go overboard with the olive oil, i breakout too. I'm good with no more than 3 servings of it a day.
As for the supplement, it does seem like an excellent product, but make sure your not allergic to soy (even though soy lecithen contains only a very small amount of the allergen in soy) or any of the other fillers.
