Alright, I purchased my fish oil softgels today. Probably should've gone to GNC but I'm addicted to WalMart. I got the WalMart brand... which I think was mentioned as okay in the beginning of these posts. I had to puchase 250 softgels because all of the smaller bottles were gone. But I figure that's fine since I'll be taking several a day. Now I just have to figure out how many to take. The cannister (yeah, it's no longer a bottle) says 1 softgel is 1000 mg Fish Oil with 300 mg "Natural Omega 3 Fatty Acids" or EPA & DHA. So... that whole ratio thing in the earlier posts confused me. The cannister says take 3 a day. So that's almost 1g of Omega 3. I guess I'll start with that and work my way up from there.Good luck, also if you are not getting vitamin A in your diet, take 1 vitamin A capsule a day, with the omega 3, and also zinc together 🙂 They are work together and are probably the most important vitamins dealing with acne, along with c and b vitamins as well as chromium. 🙂
Will a Centrium A to Zinc vitamin work?
Nope, because for one, centrum has a low vit A content. Next, only 20 to 40% is absorbed (the multivitamin). It's best to take vitamin A and Zinc separately in their own tablets. They are cheap too so don't worry.
*sigh* Back to the market. I feel like a druggie popping all these pills. I hope I see/feel good results.

Remember, the best bang for your buck is the twin labs cod liver oil (since it contains the needed vit A content so you don't need to buy it seperately) and then getting C and Zinc seperate 🙂 The good news is that they are just vitamins, not some weird herb or something you have no idea about 🙂 So that should make you feel like less of a druggie hehe. I know what you mean though, I used to be at that point once, so so many pills!
Ive been using this for about two/three weeks now and have deffenetly seen an improvement in my skin. However its still not perfect so I saw on another thread that taking apple cider vinegar works, would you recommend this to be ok to take with the cod liver oil?
If you try it out, be sure not to take it together in case, but at different times 🙂
Well, I'm at a crossroads now. I finally finished my last bottle of GNC Fish Oil after having taken it easy this time around by not taking more than 1 gram a day, having seen no improvement to my oil production or skin and really not being able to afford (literally) to take large doses.
What do you guys suggest I adopt from here on out? Continue to blindly purchase another bottle of Fish Oil, taking small doses yet not knowing what it'll do for my acne, or adopt this Cod Liver Oil that you guys are now raving about? It DOES cover the bases of fish oil and it's benefits+ more right? Here's GNC's brand of CLO:
http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?produ...rentPage=family
Cheap and with numerous capsules to boot. But what about their content per pill?:
Serving Size 1 soft gel capsules
Servings Per Container 500
Amount Per Serving % DV
Vitamin A (as Cod Liver Oil) 1250.00 IU 25%
Vitamin D (as Cod Liver Oil) 135.00 IU 34%
** Daily Value (DV) not established
Other Ingredients: Gelatin, Glycerin, Soybean Oil
No Sugar, No Starch, No Artificial Color, No Artificial Flavors, No Preservatives, Sodium Free, No Wheat, No Gluten, No Dairy, Yeast Free
Also keep in mind that I take 2 multi-vitamins (GNC "Mega Men") a day if that's of any help........is it?
Any help would be appreciated. I'm reluctantly open to adopt yet another method to at least calm my moderate oil production and heal my rough, crappy-looking skin along with my mild acne. My stint with B5 went bust, and my stint with fish oil.........well I bet it helped my health at least.
Oh yes, and any suggestions for something to calm the stress and pressure of being a broke, struggling college student? I've heard Green Tea Extract being rumbled around here months ago............

Get the cod liver oil, but the liquid. I swear, I only take two teapoons a day and don't worry about pills anymore in that sense. It's relieving, and also knowing I am hitting three birds with one stone! (omega 3, retinol, D) Avoid the pills and the fillers so you don't have to second guess if that is doing anything or it isn't (it may not, but it may actually end up worrying us for no reason). Also since the capsules have soy oil I'd stay away 🙂
Also for relaxation, look up these:
melatonin, kava kava, valerian root, l-theanine, gaba, phenibut, 5HTP. Some just make you sleepy, some actually relax you. So be sure to look it up. I made a thread on bodybuilding.com in the nutrition section about natural relaxants that were over the counter/safe/herbal and got those suggestions. I was also suggested green tea, but from personal experience the effects take time to kick in (week or two) and then lasts for about a few weeks, then need to be cycled to bring those mental effects back. I also have heard that happen to others too. I hope that helps, look into those, I know what you mean about being a college student hah. Also be sure you are getting enough zinc + vit c of course, as the adrenals need vit c quite a bit, as well as whenever you have any sex, your body depletes those heavily. They are also good for mood, and of course oils we take, make sure you are getting enough of both omegas 🙂 olive oil is great

You only take 2 teaspoons? not 3? I take 3. its been working well for me for 3. I never took smaller than that.
Omg. I really can't seem to tolerate even one teaspoon of CLO. I really want to puke 3 hours after my dinner (I took CLO with my meal). I read somewhere that it's because my stomach is rejecting the fat? Also, I kind of taste the CLO (GNC) in my mouth which could be caused by acid reflux???? Please help. It would be such a shame if I cannot take CLO.

Another alternative you can do is mix it with some olive oil and add it to some pasta (since it's just a teaspoon, it will be like nothing believe me you won't even taste it), or whatever you would eat olive oil with, just do not heat it up. Make it in something where it will be so distrubuted you can't taste anything but know it has oil in it. Olive oil is extremely anti inflammatory with good fats that you need too so don't worry. 1 tablespoon of olive oil with the 1 teaspoon of CLO (there are 3 teaspoons in a tablespoons, this is just to show you how diluted it will be).
Another option is changing to twin labs cherry CLO. But is the gnc brand spoiled? Or is it because you can slightly taste it?
Make sure you are keeping it in the fridge.
If all else fails you could eat fish two to three times a week and take a vitamin A capsule. 🙂
And of course you can take other sources of omega 3 that may work well for you (though they are not perfect).
Hey romeo. u think taking 2 teaspoons of CLO is enough? or should we all take 3 a day?
I think since we've been taking a high amount of omega 3 for a long time to get our balance back to normal since we've been deficient since birth, 2 teaspoons should be fine 🙂 It contains about 2 grams of 3, and since the EPA/DHA is a metabolite form, it's very plentiful. If you just start out, 3 may be a good idea, then 2 is fine. 🙂

Definitely 🙂 Also you almost forget you have to take it sometimes. Hehe.
Skin is doing pretty good, but it's like usual, ups and downs and ups and downs. Bleh.
i took fish oil capsules and had some success with it. then when i decided to switch to CLO and zinc, i broke out horribly. i made the switch 2 weeks ago and i think that should give CLO some time to kick in. im not having any success with CLO at all. HOwever, i notice my lips are becoming less dry. other than that, i just finished my breakfast and decided to go back to fish oil capsules. my question is...should i take fish oil capsules..if yes, which brand is most recommended. or should i take liquid fish oil? thanks.

That's strange, how certain can you be the break out was from the change, since generally liquids are much purer and not filled with anything else. Also, was this break out more than what you would usually get? Because acne usually comes in ups and downs, just be sure it was related to it and not a coincidence. I hope you know what I mean.
Try going back to capsules like you originally did, and see if it gets better, then try going back once more. If you notice a huge difference, then I would stick to capsules. As for the brand, which brand were you on before?

I can taste the taste of the CLO. Like my body is trying to regurgitate it. +.+ I'll try it again. I'll try it with pasta. Or I'll try and lower my dosage?
i was taking Nature Made fish oil. i have no idea whether it was a coincidence or im not responding to CLO. i remember being zit-free the whole time i was on fish oil capsules. then i ran out, and stopped taking it for 3 days i think. I began to have a couple pimples. 3 days later, i began taking CLO. 2 weeks later, pimples are still there and more of them are coming up on my chin and jawline area. hmmm this is so confusing. haha. maybe fish oil didnt help me at all in the first place and my face happened to be zit-free for 3 weeks, which made me think that fish oil actually helped. anyways, hopefully im gettin a response back by tonight so i can go buy some fish oil capsules.

First try half a teaspoon and see if you can take it, then you can do that four times a day which equates to 2 teaspoons. Or maybe add it in some apple juice or some type of juice and drink it. I won't know how they will interact, since it's acidic. One other thing that I can imagine is adding a tiny drop of vanilla extract into the oil and trying it, perhaps it will mask the taste, but I am not sure how it will taste either, so don't take my word for it on that one.
Your best bet may be the pasta 🙂

Then definitely go back on the fish oil pills, use the exact brand you were using, I really hope that works for you 🙂 There may also be one other factor. Since there is soy oil in there, which is by nature a healthy omega 6 fat in composition, that may also help a little (just guessing). But to determine that, here's another question. Do you get any healthy fats in your diet like any olive oil or peanut butter etc?
Well I read over this thread, all the talk of fish oil, flax seed oil, etc. I was looking at a skin care product the other day that contained Pumpkin seed oil, so I looked it up to see what the purpose of it would be in a lotion, I ended up finding a lot of info on it as an actual oil. Apparently it is very high in Omega 3 and 6 along with many vitamins.

Thats only one link, Ive found hundreds more on google, now I only looked over 10 to 20 of them, but they all say basically that. Whats your take on this? I would much rather take pumpkin seed oil everyday rather than fish oil. I just thought I would let you know about this since I found it interesting, also knowing your very well informed I figured you would be able to let me know more about it. thanks.
p.s. if this has already been posted, or you talked about it, sorry i probably missed it
thats right. i HAVEN'T had any olive oil or peanut butter in my diet. i was looking online somewhere and read that anchovy oil is better than salmon? is there any difference? Nature Made is made Anchovy & Sardine as their fish. Is there any difference in which fish im getting the oil from?

That shouldn't really matter much, as long as you get a source of omega 3 it's all good. I would worry more about the freshness and quality of the product as opposed to what source of fish it's from 🙂
Yes, you need these essential omega 6 fats as well. Add in 5 tablespoons of olive oil a day somewhere in your food. What I do is add 2 to my eggs, then in the afternoon what I do is get a small bowl, pour in 2 tablespoons, add some salt and pepper, and then top it off with basil. Then take some bread and make a dip. It tastes SO good like those italian places where they pour some for you for apetizer with bread. Yum. Then the last tablespoon I add it to some pasta.
It makes a world of difference, you need those oils 🙂 Fats are the most important thing in your diet.

The composition is perfect too, as well as the ratio it's supplied in. You could technically just have that and satisfy both omega 3 and 6 needs a day 🙂 Though the downside is that it's not worth the price. You can get extra virgin olive oil, and cod liver oil and still be much cheaper and more plentiful in the long run 🙂
And no worries, this thread is too long I don't expect anyone to read everything or close to it.
