You wont believe it.
I bought Cod Oil Liver and when i saw the nutritional table, THERE IS SOY OIL IN IT.
I was pissed with that. How can they be so stupid and produce COL and put soy oil in it?
I'm frustrated i cant find a decent COL here.
There's 5 g of soy oil per tablespoon. Is that too much?

Which brand are you using? And I will look further into for you.
Thanks NdnRomeo for the quick response!Yeah, I suppose it was the number of males responding to this post that weighed in on my guess that guys had better results with the fish oil capsules.
I'm picking up my first supply during the next grocery trip :D.
Now if I could just convince myself to change my overall diet too.... baby steps.
But remember, the brand name is very important =) Pick up gnc if you can if it's closest to you, or twin labs if you can. Because some cod liver oil have too much vitamin A and too little omega 3 and so forth. Uneven ratios for what our purposes are =)
Don't worry, I took baby steps with the diet too, it's all just baby steps, take your time and remember... the most important thing if you have to be comfortable with it, if you aren't, then chances are you won't stick to it :).
Good luck!
Hi, thanks for the reply.Well yeah, I started breaking out around age 13. definitely mild by most people's standards here, but still painful and unsightly. just pustules/pastules. This continued until age 15. (during this time, i ate like a little kid which means probably breaking every single "rule" that people follow on this forum). I also broke out on my back at this time, though I partially attribute this to lots of scratching/wrestling.
Around exactly a year ago, when I was 15 I made some changes. Less calories, cut dairy out (I used to eat lots of it), cut meat out, cut fried/fast food out. I took a multivitamin (with 120mcg chromium) for one month. But I STILL ate tons and tons of refined carbs, sugars, etc. I basically lived off white rice, rice crackers, sugary cereals, waffles, granola, french toast, stuff like that. (60 grams added sugar a day). No fruits, veggies.
I also made a huge effort not to touch my face. I did not take any supplements after that one month. From the beginning of last september until the beginning of this april (7 months) I was completely clear. I think I had ONE pimple the entire time.
Around april of this year I began incorporating new things into my diet, feeling confident nothing would break me out. the condition of my skin has slowly gotten worse from then until now. (well actually, from april until july I had big painful pastules on my ONLY my forehead. in july, i stopped getting these (well, not as many/as big) but other parts of my face started breaking out too. The new things i put in my diet were BETTER than the old things though- legumes instead of refined carbs, protein powder instead of waffles, more whole grains instead of refined, etc.
One month ago I broke out pretty bad and got extremely frustrated with how IMPROVING my diet coincided with my skin getting WORSE. So after reading this thread/other threads I changed to a low GI/GL diet with lots of veggies, (still vegan). started taking the 8-9 fish oil caps. Now I'm getting frustrated that its still worse, so on top of all that I'm looking into chromium
This is ridiculous because nothing matches up to how it should. the only thing i can think of is that stress triggered the break out, or that it was the chromium or something else I took for that one month that cleared me for 7 months. Both seem unrealistic.
edit: or perhaps it's the high protein that's doing it? screwing with keratinization?
That is very very interesting, how from september to april you cleared, though when you changed your diet you got worse. So we do know for a fact it's something in your diet. Answer me these two questions.
How much dairy did you drink when you were clear, and how much now? You said you take protein shakes, did you take them when you were clear?
Also, have you stopped breaking out on your back when you were clear or did you have acne then on your body? Are you breaking out on your body now?
Keep the answers coming, we can try to find a solution for you. The reason is because we KNOW you changed one thing that caused it all to come back, so the good news is that we can figure this out and it's closer than you think. So it's good you wrote all that out to have an open set of eyes to see and pinpoint what exactly it could be. I have a few ideas, so we will take this one step at a time 🙂 Let me know the answer to every question I asked in this reply and we shall go from there.

Hi, thanks for the fast replies again. Well I have not had ANY dairy during my clear period, or now either. (basically, ever since i was clear until now, no dairy whatsoever). I did take protein for the last couple months of my 7 month clear period, and for a couple months after that. But it was soy protein isolate, not whey or anything. I haven't taken that since july.
Also note that I'm not allergic to soy protein isolate, because every day during my clear period I had a protein bar with 10 grams of soy protein isolate, and I did take it for the last couple months of my clear period.
When I was clear, I DID stop breaking out on my back as well. I'm not breaking out on my body now, though i do have a few on my scalp which I didn't have during my clear period.
Note that there is a high chance wrestling and picking/scratching caused my back acne when I did have it, because theres a lot of friction with the back against the mat with tons of bacteria, etc. infections are common. (I stopped wrestling the summer before I became clear)
ahah well thank you for taking such an interest in helping me! The good thing is I have a really good memory of what I did during my clear period (right down to the exact foods/amounts I ate everyday), so that should help.
Right now I'm starting to believe vitamins/minerals had something to do with it. Despite my high sugars/GI, I was eating a clif bar everyday (which is fortified with zinc, selenium, a bunch of other vitamins/minerals) and fortified cereals, and I did take that multi for a month or so at first. I'm also starting to suspect that the sulfur topical I used religiously every night may have had an important effect. Not so much the salicylic acid pads, as I used them even before I was clear. (those were the only 2 topicals i used)
diet seems ridiculously inconsistent with me. After one month of a low GI diet, I cheated a little these last few days but have not broken out AT ALL. (had some cookies and stuff) Some say it takes a couple weeks for diet to manifest itself, but a while back I also did a super high GI diet for a week. A couple weeks later.. not too much breaking out!
I think because it's flavored.I did a research and it seems arttificial flavors may or has soy oil.
I think i will go with pills really.
It's a pitty because the col liquid i get was cheap.
The point to avoid pills is to avoid the fillers. It has a lot more oil and other fillers in it than pure liquid.
Could you please link me to that statement you refer to? Because liquid cod liver oil from good companies have no soy bean oil. Like above, we only recommend gnc or twin labs or even carlson. If you do not have those then you should ask me about it before you get it since the ratio's are much different in terms of omega 3 vitamin a and vitamin d.
What brands are available there. I can find out which one you can take.

Man that is really confusing now, it's hard to even determine what it could be based on that. Try taking in fortified cereals.
Also tell me how much you get of these
Vitamin A
Zinc
Omega 3
Vitamin C
Chromium
B vitamins

allright its lucky charms time
As of my breaking out period:
Vitamin A: Varied from only 15% to 300+% DV. Hovered around 50% DV. (around the same as when i was clear).
Zinc: 7-8 mg estimation.
omega 3: of EPA and DHA, I get 2.7g a day.
Vitamin C:Just began taking 2g a day this weekend. Before, maybe 50mg or so.
chromium: I took 1000mcg total this weekend. Before that, I probably got barely any.
B vitamins: varies, but I've always hovered around 20%DV for each, even when i was clear.
.
For the vitamins/minerals, just click here:

the only thing i really ate with any of that when i was clear was the clif bar, and fortified cereals.
Everything else was composed of grains, refined grains, sometimes legumes/split peas, other things on occasion with the avoidance of dairy, meat, and eggs, or fast food (fried foods, etc.)
correct me if im wrong, but none of these things have too much..
I'm becoming increasingly convinced that this sulfur topical has something to do with it.

Take a zinc (50 mg) and a b complex together daily 🙂 Those help a lot, and zinc works synergetically with b6 so that is a great combo. Adding the c you are already taking is even more perfect.
And then whatever else you think it can be, work on that. But zinc is extremely essential, almost as much as omega 3 I would say, if not more!
The good news is that you only have a few options to keep messing around with. I know it's not those things I listed above but they should definitely be part of your regimen, super cheap and vital :)!
leoncito said:Could you please give me your opinion about the nowfoods liquid cod liver oil. Soy derivatives is listed as ingredient.[Edited link out]
Thanks
NOW brand makes pretty good products! That sounds like a good amount. Take 3 teaspoons daily.
It has soy derivatives, but probably a really small amount, nothing close to what they use in capsules I am sure. NOW brand is really awesome. If you can get the brands we are using, go for it for consistancy sake, but if you can get NOW instead, that is fine too
About hypervitaminosisHow much IU of Vit A and D do your CLO has?
A bought scott's emulsion
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php...t&p=2048043
You aren't supposed to buy emulsified forms, like you did (scott's emulsion). The link explains why, it was on the bottom of the last page and also repeated many times. Due to the toxicity factor. Click the link and read about it.
hypervitaminosis appears generally with synthetic forms, and emulsified forms. It is ten times more toxic. Oil based forms have 10x less toxicity, and the D further prevents from toxicity.

This lists the amount of vit a and d my clo has.
Hope that helps.
Alright, I purchased my fish oil softgels today. Probably should've gone to GNC but I'm addicted to WalMart. I got the WalMart brand... which I think was mentioned as okay in the beginning of these posts. I had to puchase 250 softgels because all of the smaller bottles were gone. But I figure that's fine since I'll be taking several a day. Now I just have to figure out how many to take. The cannister (yeah, it's no longer a bottle) says 1 softgel is 1000 mg Fish Oil with 300 mg "Natural Omega 3 Fatty Acids" or EPA & DHA. So... that whole ratio thing in the earlier posts confused me. The cannister says take 3 a day. So that's almost 1g of Omega 3. I guess I'll start with that and work my way up from there.

Good luck, also if you are not getting vitamin A in your diet, take 1 vitamin A capsule a day, with the omega 3, and also zinc together 🙂 They are work together and are probably the most important vitamins dealing with acne, along with c and b vitamins as well as chromium. 🙂

Will a Centrium A to Zinc vitamin work?

Will a Centrium A to Zinc vitamin work?
Nope, because for one, centrum has a low vit A content. Next, only 20 to 40% is absorbed (the multivitamin). It's best to take vitamin A and Zinc separately in their own tablets. They are cheap too so don't worry.
Okay, I've read the last 10 pages. I've noticed that COL is the thing in this thread now. Well...since ages ago. I've just been scared to try anything "oil," since the bad experience from fish oil. But from reading the last pages, people mentioned the soy fillers and stuff and that may have been it that was breaking me out. So, I think I'm going to try cod liver oil by next week.I've been 99% clear for about a month and a half or so now. I've been using C&C blackhead clearing scrub and C&C CC cleanser. The first being an SA wash and the other being BP wash. Those two are the ones helping me the most right now. I've also been taking 50mg Zinc for a month and vitamin C since last week and a half. They have been also helping me.
I was also taking 200mcg of Chromium Picolinate during the middle of September. I'm not sure if it was the Chromium because I broke out after taking it for a week. So I stopped it and I'm back to where I was.
Question about Zinc though, Romeo. When I was googling it and reading stuff on the net. One of them mentioned that you should take 2mg of Copper for every 15mg of Zinc. And when I was looking at multivitamins in the pharmacy I go to there are ones that had 15mg of Zinc and 2mg of Copper.People from this forum say you should only take Copper if you go past 100mg. Do you know if there is any substantial study behind 2mg CU/15mg of Zinc?
The only problem now my oily skin. If I can lessen it with COL, maybe it will help big time.
I understand your concern. I used to wonder the same thing as well. I cannot find any studies that dictate the 2:15 ratio of zinc to copper but it's very widely acknowledged. I think the reason people say that anything under 100 mg of zinc does not need copper is because it may not show side effects at under 100 mg of copper. The balance of these two statements (which are on each ends) would be just to take the RDA of 2 mg of copper. I do know that just by analyzing our diets, we probably naturally don't even get that, so that will be a huge step up 🙂 I believe you may be fine. Then you won't have to worry about wondering what ahppens if you take lots of copper (more than 2 mg) competing with other vitamins etc. I know that is not the perfect answer, but it's the best solution that I may do eventually in the future as well.
I hope the CLO works for you, if in fact you do find that you get worse then it may actually be something relating to fish. If you eat sushi or anything, and are fine, then it may not be.
It's so hard to determine with things like this. It may be the soy fillers, or possibly anything else that the capsules have.
Best of luck and let me know what happens!
hey there folks,
i've been taking fish oil capsules for about two months now (around 2grams of omega-3) but haven't really seen any improvement.
now i wonder why that is?
i tried out two different brands.
other than that i feel that my libido decreased and i feel physically week and lack conentration. could this be a side effect of omega-3?
but the overall question is why is doesn't work.
so i was wondering if people who might suffer from a "leaky gut" are not able to absorb it appropriately?
thanks

How much zinc vitamin A and C are you getting daily?
hey NdnRomeo,thanks for the reply.
i supplement 200mg vitamin c and 15mg zinc and no vitamin a daily.
and i don't eat fruits, ever. just can't eat them.
so do you think it's not enough?
what about the digestion/absorption issues?
thanks
Hm, raise the amount of zinc. I would say take a 50 mg capsule, because 15 is probably not enough. With that, I would take a b complex and the c together. I take 500 mg vitamin C tablets, most people here take about 1 gram +. These three are very safe since they are all water soluble :).
Next, switch to the cod liver if possible, as we've been mentioning in the last few pages. Check it out, there are many benefits, including the added retinol and D
Also what state is your acne in now, what has yielded positive and negative changes from what you have tried in the past?
