Oh, so I should not be taking Fish Oil with Cod Liver Oil Capsules? So when I run out of Fish Oil, I should get some Cod Liver Capsules? What brand can I get that has Omega 3s and the other stuff?
You can take them together :), but don't take too much of cod liver oil. If you have not bought any cod liver oil capsules yet, don't, get the liquids instead. So when you do run out of fish oil, get some cod liver oil instead if possible.
Ok. So this is what I should do.
1. Take my regular fish oil capsules, about 3 grams a day.
2. Drink some of this stuff. How does it taste?
http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp...;id=prod3017160
Should the ingredient list say "Retinol?"
And why doesn't it say "Omega 3?"

Or do this, go to gnc and pick up a bottle of cod liver oil, it will contain 3 grams of omega 3 as well in 3 teaspoons and all the retinol and D content, then you can do both in one shot :).
The walgreens brand is lacking big time
So I should take a teaspoon of this stuff each day and take my regular fish oil capsules?

Yeh, for me after three weeks of taking Cod Liver Oil there was a change. This doesn't cure acne, but it helps some acne, and might cure some mild acne. The problem was with what to take. I think Cod Liver Oil combined with another Liquid Fish Oil, bit of overdose for me, but at 6.3 TOTAL epa/dha, I have gotten consistant results, but won't be cured from this. It might work perfect with vit b5 (which I don't recommend) but can be used and might work well. It is also just the for the health sakes of good bone joints and other health stuff.
Ok so I've been doing 12 Fish Oil pills a day, and I just started on Zinc a few days ago. I've been doing the 12 for about a month now.
I feel like I'm going to vomit when I go to school in the mornings, and I have a terrible headache. Should I stop? In fact it seems as though my acne is getting worse

Switching to liquid would be easier on the stomach too, just one teaspoon morning, then at night and your done. No gagging feeling etc. Also be sure you are getting every one of vitamin A through E and K in your diet and or supplementing. And the minerals zinc, calcium and chromium.
Alright. Im interested in taking Fish Oil Capsules to see if it helps with my acne, I have been for awhile but I never understood any of it until this thread. I still have quite a few questions im hoping you can help me with.
So basically, I go into walmart/riteaid/giant....some type of store, pick up a bottle of Fish oil capsules and purchase it? Is there anything else I need? I read all this ratio stuff omega 6 to omega 3 and that confuses me. Am I alright to just buy fish oil capsules and take them by themselves, or do I need to buy other supplements to go along with them?
You say 4 grams is the recommended amount. How many pills approximatley would this be? One reason I never tried this is because Im not into taking 24 pills throughout the day, haha, I dont think im comfortable taking a bunch of pills to school and work with me to swallow every hour. Now if your response is, around 12 pills or something like that, what if I only take 2-4 everyday or half of the recommended amount, will I get any benefits at all? Is it even worth it?
If I go into my local health food store to pick them up, is that alright? I mean, is there a huge difference between brands. They all generally have the same amount of everything in them, correct?
I read somewhere LionQueen recommended fish oil capsules. Especially if you are on a retinol regimen, she said that the fish oil will help greatly with the dryness of the skin, by moisturizing it internally, is this true?
Lastly, i read through the side effects. When i first start, my side effects will be stomache ache, something mild like that correct? If I have no allergies or any problems digesting the pills, as long as I dont exceed to 4 gram limit, my blood isnt going to thin/not clot or my hair fall out or anything?
That should be everything. Im very very sorry if i asked stuff that you already posted, Im the type of person who gets confused by writings, I ask questions, get the answers i need and go from there. So sorry if im making you repeat, and thank you very very much for helping me. Also for putting this thread up, its great for people like me who need help.

You should probably take liquids instead. Stop by gnc and pick up a bottle of cod liver oil. It contains vitamin A, D, and omega 3, and you only need 2 or 3 teaspoons a day. Much simpler and easier.

I think 2 to 3 grams is more than enough, 4 grams won't do harm, but it is overkill, I found. So that should make it easier for you. You will get full benefits at this level.
If I go into my local health food store to pick them up, is that alright? I mean, is there a huge difference between brands. They all generally have the same amount of everything in them, correct?
Like above, if you pick liquids go to gnc and get cod liver oil. The first page has misinformation and I can't edit it anymore since the quote requirments shrank to 12. So therefore I can't tamper with it anymore. But we found cod liver oil to be very safe and much better. Read up on the last 10 or so pages to see why, lots of good information and success stories.
I read somewhere LionQueen recommended fish oil capsules. Especially if you are on a retinol regimen, she said that the fish oil will help greatly with the dryness of the skin, by moisturizing it internally, is this true?
Yes, cod liver oil contains retinol so you get both for your money :). Also be sure to take vitamin E and C and zinc because they both help so much with keratin, infections, and sebum. It's an ultimate regulator with those.
Lastly, i read through the side effects. When i first start, my side effects will be stomache ache, something mild like that correct? If I have no allergies or any problems digesting the pills, as long as I dont exceed to 4 gram limit, my blood isnt going to thin/not clot or my hair fall out or anything?
No, it's very safe. Remember, it's an essential fatty acid meaning we need it to survive and function properly, hence the beauty of it :). If you are allergic to fish then it's a caution but otherwise you are good to go. Start with one teaspoon then work your way to two or three, you will be fine with doing that on your first go too.
That should be everything. Im very very sorry if i asked stuff that you already posted, Im the type of person who gets confused by writings, I ask questions, get the answers i need and go from there. No worries, ask as much as you wish, we are here to educate and spread the good news about everything we find 🙂
All answers in bold 🙂
Alright, thank you for your reply. Im assuming cod liver oil is basically the same as Fish oil capsules then, its just in liquid form...would this be right?
Also if I can handle taking the large number of pills, would I be alright to buy a bottle of them and just go that route? I just ask because I keep reading up on Omega 3 and how you need to balance it with omega 6 and other vitamins/minerals and I would prefer not to take 6 different types of pills. Although I also read that most people get the daily amount of omega 6 and other vitamins through the they eat. And is there anything I cant eat or drink while taking these? I saw someone asked you about green tea, I drink a lot of it, every morning i have a cup, Is it not safe to take fish oil pills with green tea int he mornings?
thanks again for the help

Cod liver oil is omega 3 fatty acids with a healthy concentration of vitamin A and D. Retinol is a vital component to acne and skin health. It regulates sebaceous activity and keratin activity which causes acne directly (a lack of it does). So it's better, and ends up being even cheaper. So buy the cod liver oil liquids. We avoid pills because more than 50% of the pill is some disgusting filler material, whether it be some other type of oil or soy, or something else. Plus the rancidity issue in question, since they are permeable to air.
One thing you need to do is write out your daily diet. Find out what vitamins and minerals you do not get enough of and supplement. Here is a list to look for
Vitamin A
B complex
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Vitamin E
Vitamin K
Calcium
Chromium
Zinc
Omega 3 (ALA/EPA/DHA)
Omega 6(LA/GLA)
Each of these are extremely essential to normal functioning. Chances are you do not get close to the RDA for many of these, as most people find that to be the case. Don't worry about the balancing issue, if you take 2 grams of omega 3 from cod liver oil or fish oil, you will get it perfectly (it's a long explenation, if you would like to know, I can explain it).
About the green tea, generally one cup is usually no big deal, issues arise when you go much higher. If you can, take it away from fish oil, but since it's only a small amount I wouldn't worry about it, though I would try to drink it away from fish oil if at all possible.
There are no foods to avoid that will interact with these vitamins since they are natural and will not cause harm like medicine can in terms of side effects as long as they are taken in normal measures like we do :).
ooook brought my codliver oil tablets today but on the packet it says take three a day and dont overdoes.
Im not into that!
would i still see results if i took 3 a day?
Im thinking of actually getting cod liver oil instead as taking a table spoon morning and night seems less frightening!
advive and help please!

Can you get the liquid instead? I've been stressing that quite a bit as that being one of the two reasons changing from fish oil, avoiding the fillers in fish oil capsules, which also are in cod liver oil capsules. Plus it's cheaper that way.
If not, then let me know what brand you got, because not all brands are the same, and we strongly recommend gnc, carlson, or twin labs. Some brands like walgreens brand have no omega 3 content, so those are no good.
Yes, you won't have to overdose, no one should 🙂 But you have to tell me more than the serving size, list the amount of omega 3, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Also tell me how many capsules per serving. The goal is to get the recommended amount of omega 3 and vitamin A and D to complete the amount needed daily by every human being.
Hmm. I'm really interested in this method. I already have 60 fish oil gel capsules (300mg combined EPA/DHA). I'm thinking that if I see any difference by the end of this bottle I will go and get the Cod Liver oil from GNC. But I have a few questions.
Is there any brand I should be on the lookout for? Is the GNC brand called just GNC? And in order to get the 2-3g Omega-3 from cod liver oil, I only have to take 2-3 teaspoons a day with meals? But then, the Vitamin A and D will be over the 100% mark...? Would that lead to overdose since they stay in the system for a long time?
Also, I read the capsule shell to be made of "gelatin, glycerin, purified water" which aren't that bad... or no?
You mentioned something about the capsules being permeable to air and turning rancid, well, shouldn't the liquid cod liver oil be more likely to turn rancid since it's just there?
Thanks for answering my questions

GNC brand is good, if you walk into gnc, they have their own brand name cod liver oil, so it will be called GNC cod liver oil. It's on the website as well.
I posted an article a while ago claiming how toxicity results with synthetic vitamin A. The type found in cod liver oil is pretty safe. 2 teaspoons should be fine too. Also the article explains how the vitamin D content protects from vitamin A toxicity. It also explained how toxicity from natural sources are at doses 10x higher than synthetic sources. So that is three things that should keep your worries at bay :). If you would like me to repost those articles I will gladly do so for you.

Is there anything in the ingredients that say soy oil or any type of oil? They are usually hydrogenated oils, which is my concern. Because 300 of the 1000 mg is omega 3, then the rest is another type of oil.

Nope, one reason is that before you buy those fish oil capsules they stay there for quite a long time being permeable to air. Generally this is the last topic of importance with fish oil, first is the fillers and oils, then the rancidity which is in question, also the question of purity and metals. Generally it's fine in terms of rancidity, but you know, it is another plus switching to oils in liquid :).
Thanks for answering my questions 😀
Sorry for the late response, my internet has been acting up.

Wow. I consider that a quick reply. Thank you so much
Well, the ingredients indicate "fish oil 1000mg" and there's nothing else there.
If you can, can you tell me which page you put the article about Vitamin D protectig againest Vitamin A toxity on? Or repost the link? That would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Check out the back of the bottle where it breaks down in the ingredients. Look for EPA and DHA. Added together, in a 1000 mg capsule, it comes out to about 300 mg. So the rest are other oils generally. And they could by hydrogenated oils.
Or it could be glycerin and gelatin, but I wonder if there is something else. I would assume they'd be liable to tell us. But either way, that is 70% of the capsule and if we take a lot of pills to get omega 3, it will come with alot of the fillers so it may not be the best solution for us =).
I'll post the article for ya
Vitamin A is an important nutrient yet there is much confusion surrounding its appropriate form, dosage and source. I always cringe when I hear people who think they understand nutrition describing how vegetables like carrots are excellent sources of vitamin A. There are no plant sources of vitamin A -- it is only present in animal products.Due to the commonly heard warnings that too much vitamin A is toxic and can result in birth defects, liver abnormalities, and reduced bone mineral density -- many people are afraid of taking too much of this nutrient.
What is rarely addressed, and must be considered along with these warnings, is the TYPE of vitamin A. There is a big difference between synthetic vitamin A and vitamin A from natural sources. Most cases of vitamin A toxicity result from an excess intake of synthetic vitamin A in supplements, NOT the natural form of retinol (vitamin A) found in cod liver oil.
Because cod liver oil contains vitamin D there's no need to worry about vitamin A toxicity if you take it in cod liver oil. It is virtually impossible to become toxic on vitamin A if you take it along with vitamin D. As evidenced in a study published in the December 2003 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, vitamin D is associated with reduced vitamin A toxicity, and the vitamin D appears to protect against retinal toxicity.
An anti-infective vitamin, vitamin A is useful for many conditions including vision problems, poor thyroid function, a weakened immune system, and fighting off infections, especially those that involve mucous membranes as vitamin A is used to form the cells lining the digestive, respiratory, reproductive and urinary tracts and all tissue linings of the body. Night blindness, dry eyes, eye infections and skin problems are just some of the conditions associated with Vitamin A deficiency.
As I mentioned earlier, cod liver oil is one of the best sources of vitamin D (other than the sun), but what you may not know is that it is also one of the best sources of vitamin A
Enjoy 🙂
apparently canadian GNC doesn't carry the liquid for of CLO. I'm thinking of getting something from Carlson, Nordic Naturals, Swiss naturals, are those any good? I just look at how much EDA and DHA they have to calculate the value of each?

Those are high quality brands as well. The only concern is that they do not have a high vitamin A concentration (retinol) which is what we look for as well. Can you get a brand called Twin Labs? It's a high quality brand too and has a perfect ratio 🙂
Okay, here's another acne sufferer who would like to post his fish oil results. In short, it turned out to be my 'miracle cure'.
I'm 40 years old and have suffered acne to varying degrees, mostly moderate to severe with some cysts, since puberty. I've been seeing the same dermatologist for more than 20 years, having tried Accutane twice (effective for a couple of years after), along with all the usual antibiotics, topical retinoids, salycilic acids and BP soaps and creams with varying results (mostly poor). My problem has always been oily skin. I've had oily skin as long as I can remember. In my 30's it calmed down some, but it never normalized, and I always had some form of acne (mostly mild to moderate) during this time.
Well, back in May I had it really bad (extremely oily condition that wouldn't quit; major pimples and cysts) and I called my derm to ask to be put on another Accutane regimen. He happened to be gone that Friday on vacation, so I decided to spend the weekend doing some acne research on the net. That's when I found this site. I don't know why it never crossed my mind to look before. I guess I had just accepted the fact that mild acne was something I would have to live with forever. I spent hours poring over the site, reading all the different treatments and regimens posted by others. I decided on a plan of action that included Dan's BP applied twice daily, 3 to 4 grams omega 3 from fish oil capsules, 50 mg Zinc Gluconate, ACV internally and Promise Gentle cleanser twice daily. I started all these at once back in late May and saw immediate improvement. Further clearing was slower, but improve it did over the weeks. I eventually dropped the ACV with no effect. Today, I still take the others, but only use Dan's gel in certain areas and only once a day.
So what is my complexion like today, 4 months later? I am completely clear. My skin has normalized. It's neither oily, nor is it dry like when on Accutane. It's just normal like the skin of people who never suffered acne. And because it's normal, I don't have acne. None. Also, all the discolored remnants of past scars have faded away, leaving my face clear. Suffice it to say I'm very happy.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone who contributes to this great site, but especially to Romeo because of the research he has done and posted on the subject of omega 3 and fish oil. I strongly believe that the fish oil alone is responsible for normalizing my skin's oil production. I'm going to stop using the BP gel when it runs out, but I am confident that my complexion will not be affected, as lately I've been skipping BP application alltogether for a day here and there with no effect.
The only problem is I wish I had this solution back in my teens. I pretty much lost 20 years of 'living' because of acne. Even though I'm clear, it's obvious I have lasting mental issues because of it (mild depression, live alone, no friends, etc.) Too bad omega 3 can't fix that.

That is SUCH a remarkable story! I am so happy to hear that. All the research and times pays off when it helps people like it helped you. I'm so happy for you! Truely.
Thanks for sharing your story and being inspirational to others as well. I hope though that this means you can start a new life and beat the hard times acne gave you in the past!
sorry ive been reading this thread for about an hour but now i have to do some homework before class, i just have some questions..
i want to try CLO..
http://www.vitacost.com/Twinlab-Norwegian-...il-Cherry-12-oz
