Here is a list of over 5000 studies regarding saturated fats and fats in general. The vast majority prove the link between sat. fats and bad health in many areas, such as cardiovascular health, heart health etc.

And i can see you didn't read Ulf Ravnskovs site. Please don't argue with me before reading what i have to say. We can return to this discussion when you've read up.

Actually i did read it and didnt think much of it. It contained a few statements without any supporting evidence. If you cannot see that it is a site geared towards selling a book then I cannot help you.

Further, if you subscribe to The International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics then thats you choice. Thankfully, most people trust the thousands of studies that show saturated fats are indeed unhealthy.

As I said before, some people want to eat saturated fats without the stigma of knowing that it is unhealthy, so they find 'evidence' that shows it is actually a positive food choice....

WRONG.

humans have been evolving and living on fat and protein for millions of years.

YES....SATURATED FAT.

only recently (past few decades) has a message preaching a low fat-higher carb diet also coincided with higher rates of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc.

Ancel Keys' original lipid hypothesis was rigged to show a link between cultures with high fat and high heart disease. he "conveniently" left out of the study cultures that ate little fat and had high Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) and cultures who and tons of fat (eskimos) and had little CVD.

FACT: His study was EXTREMELY FLAWED.

Watch a movie called "FATHEAD by Tom Naughton".

Check out Dr. Eades research.

Check out Mark Sisson.

Check out Jimmy Moore.

The evidence is out there that excess CARBS not FAT cause bad cholesterol levels, CVD, Obesity, Diabetes, etc.

So, I have just started taking Evening Primrose Oil and I have read that it's necessary to take Lecithin for it to work. So, is this true? I have to buy and consume Lecithin as well?

Evening Primrose Oil is the only thing that would work for me too! I had tried just about everything, even changing my diet (which helped, but didn't cure my acne). I concluded that my acne was hormonal since I had tried so many different things, and nothing worked. :wall: Then I just "happened" to stumble upon one sentence in a book that said that Evening Primrose Oil when taken with Zinc could help acne. After two months my skin was completely clear  except for some blackheads (which I am using Calcium Bentonite Clay on, but if you know of anything better, please let me know :) ). You don't have to be an adult to take it either, because I'm 16 and it worked for me! Try it if you think your acne is hormone related! God bless your efforts! :D

P.S. At one point, I had to stop taking it (Evening Primrose Oil), because it was making me nauseous and vomit. I guess I was taking way too much, like 1500-3000 mg a day. So I recommend taking only like 500 mg EPO and 25-50 mg Zinc, and then cutting back if you find you have too. :)

hey guys, i'm really eager to try out taking these supplements to help with my skin.

i've had skin problems for years but nothing seems to help, after having to come off the contraceptive pill due to it giving me migraines i am now worried my skin is going to get even worse than it already is!

i've never taken evening primrose oil or borage so have found these posts really helpful!

if i bought Holland and Barrett borage or EPO oil 1000mg would i have to take 5 capsules a day?

also i have noticed they do evening primrose oil and starflower in one capsule 1000mg, is this worth trying instead? and would i have to do 5 capsules of it a day?

how many lecithin 1200mg capsules should i take a day?

could i take a separate zinc 15mg one-a-day capsule with this too?

would appreciate your advice! :)

k first day i took it, i got a cyst the next day. but today (day 3), i had no breakout. which is unusual because i get at least a new pimple a day. so i'm definitely sticking with this. right now i take 4 1000mg capsules of borage, so thats like 800mg of GLA per day.

i'm also taking omega 3 capsules which have 900mg of omega 3s. isn't that enough to balance the ratio of 3s to 6s? thats more omega 3 than 6, supplement wise, so i should be in the clear right?

day 5, again no breakout yet. this stuff is great, i lowered my dosage to 3 1000mg capsules per day and so far no new acne since. this stuff needs more attention, and this is nothing like fish oil. i've tried fish oil in large amounts and it still broke me out, borage seems to just prevent acne from appearing in a short amount of time. almost instantly.

switch from EPO to borage oil. it has a higher percentage of GLA so you take less to get the same effects. i also noticed that taking too much GLA can make you break out more, so i reduced it down to 2 grams of borage per day and so far its been working great.

i've heard some not so good things about borage oil, plus evening primrose oil is supposed to have other benefits as well, like lots of EFA and i'm finding it's really helping my joints too but that might be something else

i'm gonna drop it down to 4 grams and see if that still does the trick

i usually associate EPO for coping with menstrual pains. I'm a guy. So can I still take this for acne?

basically what i gather from this thread is,

take 5000mg of borage oil (star flower) and 2400mg lecithin then you will no longer get acne?

so these ingredients control hormonal acne yes?

sorry read through most of it but people are very confusing

I bought EPO supply for 1 month (taking 4 capsules of 1300 mg each) along with lecithin (should I take 1 or 2 capsules of 1200 mg?) I will update in a month or two.

10 grams! holy crap.

If you want fast results then a high dose is the way to get them. You can clear your skin tentatively if you wish using a lower dose. I wouldnt go lower than 1000mg GLA/day if you want to see results though.

NO

Unless you have a diagnosed ailment warranting short term megadosing like some people with Vit D, you shouldn't be taking 10g or even need to.

I dont consider 2000mg GLA megadosing.

High doses of GLA are quite commonly recommended:

"Studies have suggested that up to 2,800 mg of GLA per day is well tolerated."

You probably don't need to refrigerate Lecithin capsules, but the granules need to be refrigerated. It wouldn't hurt to refrigerate them either way.

Regarding the topic, I too found some success with Evening Primrose Oil and Lecithin supplementation, but started getting GI distress after two weeks and had to stop. After doing some reading, I started supplementing with Nutiva Hemp Oil instead, which has 500 mg of GLA, 2500mg of Omega-3 ALA and 25mg of Omega-3 SDA, and took it with 1200mg lecithin, and I believe this has helped to clear up the acne on my cheeks and make my skin smoother. I also drink a small glass of Tempt Unsweetened Hemp Milk every day which also has GLA and is delicious. :)

I was googling 'borage oil acne' and an article recommended Neptune Krill Oil instead. It said that it actually works better than borage oil...

No, I take a tablespoon of Nutiva hemp seed oil with my breakfast. I think it's cheaper than capsules.

Does anyone know if EPO works if you're on a birth control pill?

Ok so I've been taking 1000 mg of Borage Oil (160 GLA) & 1200 mg of Lecithin for a week now. I started off taking 1 of borage & lecithin for a day or so then started taking 2 of each daily (split doses) then when I bumped it up to 4 pills each day (split doses), I noticed my skin started breaking out--mainly on my face--not too bad. I decided to lower the dose to 2 borage pills & 1 lecithin each day b/c I do believe this regimen is working *knock on wood* Even though it's only been a week, dosage wise 2.5-3 weeks. My face is less oily & along w/my hair. My chest is pretty much clear except for one or two pimples. My hair is starting to grow again :D BIRTH CONTROL really screwed up my hormones. :wall::evil: Anywho, I'm going to continue taking this b/c I believe it has multiple benefits for me-- I've had this dry skin on my arm for months now & it hasn't gone away, but it's starting to clear up (slowly but surely) thanks to borage oil  I even think my pore size is getting smaller & my blackheads are starting to deminish (even though I still have a lot.) I'm looking into buying ACV to use as a toner and to take 1 tbsp @ night. Ugh..I just want clear skin once and for all. I feel like I'm fighting a never ending battle. Best of luck to everyone. I'll make sure to update in a month or so..

**Would ACV be good for getting rid of blackheads & scars??**

Thanks

Why do you have to take lecithin with the borage oil?

Lecithin is a fat emulsifier which helps the proper absorption of fatty acids in the body. It also aids their proper conversion, so GLA to DGLA.

Does anyone know if EPO works if you're on a birth control pill?

Yes thats fine, there were a few people taking that combo back in this thread when it was the craze.

after a few hours of taking borage oil does anyone else notice if their ankles get swollen & kinda blue looking?? i only notice that after i take it.....plz respond asap thanx

Please stop and see if the swollen ankles dissipate, if they do its the Borage oil and you have a bad brand.

*A side note for anyone trying this, keep everything in the fridge and take b4 your meal with a fatty drink such as almond milk and kefir. For maximum results take with coconut oil as well to provide protection for the EFA's in your body. ;)
