I will be buying some gold whey protein tomorrow, but I don't know which flavor to choose. The chocolate one seems to be the tastiest, but I'm not sure if it would taste that good in a smoothie. I think I even tried a cacao smoothie once. It was terrible. Would chocolate whey be good in a green smoothie?

I love cocoa in smoothies, but it sounds like you should stick to vanilla - it would be more versatile, as vanilla goes with more than chocolate. I don't put chocolate in every smoothie - it depends on the fruits I'm adding.

Those might be better alternatives Eddie, but I still think you're safer to stick with real foods rather than isolated protein - I don't think we were meant to eat isolated protein. 🙂

Aw OK. I will eat real food with high protein.

So all you daily smoothie drinkers, do you still break out? I have been doing a daily green smoothie for months now and I still break out. I tend to eat very healthy and try my best to cut out dairy products as I found I have minor flare ups after eating or drinking any type of dairy.

I will never intentionally stop drinking green smoothies as I feel the health benefits are great. But I haven't achieved that completely clear feeling while consuming these drinks.

The following is what I normally drink:

Spinach or Collards (2 handfuls)

Blueberries

Green Apples or Mango or Bananas

Water

I drink one a day. I do mostly use Spinach. I know we should really alternate our greens but Spinach is just so mild its easy to use. I have read a lot of posts in this thread. I'm not a big fan of adding raspberries or blackberries to my smoothies because the seeds are too hard for me to digest.

Does anyone have any other tips or favorites they might recommend for me to try? Any special blends that people have noticed helped in the short or long term with their skin?

I've been drinking Quezya's green smoothie for the past week and it tastes great. You can find the recipe for it on her page: www.acne.org/messageboard/Quezya-m116798.html

Does anyone know if a too powerful blender could damage the nutrients? I really want to get the blendtec total blender.

BrewCityBBQ,

I'm sorry you're not seeing results you'd hoped for! :( It may be that you still need to clean up your diet some - there are tips for that on the first post. It may also just take more time for. I'm glad you're going to keep it up regardless, because greens are the best foods for your skin and the most nutrient-rich as well. Hang in there. :)

maggipie,

Quezya's smoothie sounds awesome!! I think the addition of the carrot juice and lemon juice would be very helpful. Thanks for sharing! :)

hesitation,

Actually, you're supposed to get even more nutrients with these high-powered blenders, because they so thoroughly break down the cell wells, which releases more nutrition! :)

Hi guys I have tried this for a month.

And it is amazing. I have been very clear when I usually get breakouts and I genetically have awful oily, acne prone skin.

First I went on the high dose fish oil + zinc which helped but I still get acne every fortnight or so. I added the green smoothie everday to my diet and now its pretty much gone.

My smoothies are usually:

2 x tomatoes

2 x apples or 2 x plums or 2 x pears or Watermelon

Sometimes strawberries

1 x lemon

dash of extra virgin olive oil

2 handsful of spinage/rocket

So glad I finally decided to try this! Perfect way to consume greens- I just couldn't stomach my salads even using lots of unhealthy dressings.

Was abit concerned with the sugar content, but luckily I even found 1x apple in my blend far too sweet even which allowed me to scale the sugar down abit..

My current base smoothie (before I start experimenting abit more):

Half an apple

1/8th of a lemon

2 cups of English spinach

2 tablespoons flax seed (ground it before blending)

2 cups of water

4 ice cubes

Has a subtle refreshing sweetness and nuttyness which is tasty enough for me to crave but won't get my head spinning on a sugar high.

Guessing I can get away with the low fruit because the spinach is pretty non-offending.. will try upgrading to kale soon hopefully.

^That's great!! So glad you're liking getting your greens in a smoothie! :) Apples are a low sugar fruit, and the greens help to balance out the fruit sugars as well, so you should be okay. Keep it up! :)

Hehe, the blender is amazing, never thought blending could be so fun.

I'm gonna try out blender soups as well. Have you tried that? I can't imagine what it would taste like.... Raw and hot.

^haha, yea!!! Glad you're loving your blender!! They are definitely fun. If I were to go to a deserted island and could only take one appliance with me... yep.... you guessed it... it would be my blender!!!! haha I've made a couple raw soups in the past.... wasn't too crazy about them, but I really didn't try too many recipes of those though either. These days, I blend up veggies with sauces, broths, etc., (lots of frozen veggies too) and then through into a pot for "cooked" veggie soup. hehe If you find a raw veggie soup recipe you love though, I'd love to hear about it! Have you made any sorbets yet or any dressings? For fruit sorbets, I find adding orange concentrate and frozen raspberries, as they make just about any fruit combination taste awesome!!!!! Enjoy your blender!! :)

I made a pretty delicious smoothie today, all it was missing was greens. I've been doing quite a bit of research on green smoothies and skin, lately. So, tomorrow I'm definitely adding green to my smoothie  I'm inspired! Thanks, ABG Fairy

^ You are very welcome!! You may want to start with baby spinach, as it's very mild in flavor, and whatever green you use, I advise a small handful at first. Would love to know how it goes for you, and hopefully you will gain many more benefits besides just those for your skin! A lot of people report a better sense of well-being and more energy as well. Good luck! :)

What an Ingenious Idea

:genius:

That sounds like such a delicious starter!

Luckily for me, I'm not really a fussy eater, my tastebuds generally adapt well to anything I consume, so I am Very fond of My Greens and Fruits, I have never had the inclination nor the impulse to combine both though?

More Energy, and general sense of well-being what is there to lose I guess?! well I do think it's time to take the plunge and go for it!

^_^

Thanks a lot for all you're doing/ have done since way back in '06! 😯

You're a Lifesaver

I tried a soup and didn't really like it... I'm gonna stick to the regular soups. I've only made smoothies and soups so far, I will try making some healthy deserts soon :). I will definitely give fruits sorbets a go. They gave me a huge recipe book with the blender as well. There's a lot that can be done with just a blender!

hesitation,

Glad you're enjoying your blender!!! It's a lot of fun trying different recipes! :)

Durbaniter~Zitigated,

Send me an e-mail, and I will send you the recipes! You might want to first invest in a cheap blender and make sure you're really serious about blending before making the big leap to one of the expensive ones! :)

ABG Fairy, great post!

I can't emphasize enough the benefits of these shakes/juices, especially the intake of cruciferous veggies!

At one point a few years ago I thought I had discovered how to cure my acne, until I started to get some seriously bad acne!

I remember coming across some information purporting the amazing benefits of cruciferous benefits. I straightaway started to eat raw broccoli and cauliflower (florets) with each meal, approximately 3 florets of each, and within a few days I saw amazing results! My skin had gone back to how it was, clear and smooth.

I started to incorporate other cruciferous veggies into my diet, like cabbage - I would chop the raw cabbage into very small pieces and mix with my rice and chicken (to make it more palatable).

Whilst I went travelling, coming across fresh cruciferous veggies was not easy, though I came across frozen varieties. This is where the idea of making smoothies popped into my head. This made it soo easy to consume the veggies, that I still continue to do this now.

And it is so easy to make them taste great with all the available natural ingredients.

Thanks for the reminder.

Quinoa is great to add to shakes/smoothies - it has all the essential amino acids (EAAs), hence you don't have to worry about mixing different seeds, nuts etc to get all the EAAs.

So I've been loving green smoothies almost daily for 3 months now, but I'm going to start traveling more for work and it will be harder to keep these in my routine. Would powdered greens be OK to take with me on the road in place of smoothies? Will I get the benefits of greens still?
