Green powders are a great thing to supplement your diet with, but they are dehydrated and shouldn't replace fresh greens. Below is a good quote from raw food guru, Frederic Patenaude concerning green powders vs. green smoothies.

Almost every supplement company has a variation of the aoegreen powder,a which is basically a powder made with dried grass, dried grass juices or dried vegetables and possibly algae. This powder is supposed to make your body more alkaline and give you nutrition you can't find elsewhere.

First, I would say that grass powder is not a worthy food and anyone growing grass and turning it into a powder and making a lot of money selling it is really laughing their way to the bank at the expense of unknowing customers. Even if it's called aoewheatgrassa, it's still grass.

A powder of vegetables or algae can never compare in nutritional value to fresh vegetables, even if those vegetables are not organic.

The real superfoods are dark green vegetables such as spinach, romaine lettuce, black kale, parsley, celery, arugula, and so on.

With the use of aoegreen smoothiesa made with *fresh* green vegetables and fruit, anyone can obtain superior nutrition in a few minutes a day (ruling out the argument that people don't have aoetimea to eat well).

Green smoothies and fresh raw greens literally put these green powders to shame.

So ABG Fairy I noticed that you recommend Dr. fuhrman's multi. I also noticed it has iodine in it in the form of kelp. I am sure you have heard the whole debate about how iodine causes acne. whats your opinion on this vitamin with iodine in it.

I've heard that, but I haven't looked into it. I know that Dr. Fuhrman's supplement would only have a conservative amount. Iodine is usually added to salt, and because Dr. Fuhrman doesn't recommend that his patients add salt to their diets, he has included iodine in his multi. If you're eating a diet with much added salt, you are most likely getting too much iodine. Sorry I don't have more to say about this, but I really believe that if you stick to the basics, listed in my signature below, that you don't have to worry so much about these types of things. However, this link will take you to articles at Dr. Fuhrman's blog that discuss iodine and acne: :) http://www.google.com/search?q=iodine%2C+a...;rlz=1I7GGLL_en .

Hi again :)

Well my skin is actually doing pretty good. My left cheek is more mild now! And my right cheek has went from severe-ish to moderate. On my right cheek, its only this medium sized area that has scars left - the bottom of my right cheek is totally clear now which I am really proud of :) I'm pretty sure its the green smoothie!

Something I'm scared for is....I have another appointment with my dermatologist! :S I'm not too fond of him hahaha. My appointment is in two weeks or so - on Oct. 20. Once again, I'm worrying that he might say something about me wearing a bit of makeup to the appointment, haha! My appointment is RIGHT after school too ... and I wear a light cream foundation to school ... AND I have to go to the appointment straight from school which really sucks. Wish me luck!

Hello Rosette! :)

Love your updates. :) Happy to know your skin is still doing well, and I hope that appt. goes okay for you! If I remember correctly, he wanted you to wait a while before starting acidophilus? I would continue to say not to both antiobiotics, drugs, and especially no to Accutane, though they're all harmful! Acidophilus needs to be restored if you've been taking antibiotics. I wouldn't worry about the makeup. He would say something I would think if you needed to wash your face. I'm sure LOTS of women show up with makeup!! haha :) Let me know what he says!!

Yeah, I will definitley ask him about the acidophilus. Hopefully he'll be more clear about it than before, haha. I hope he doesn't say anything about my makeup! thanks for your help!

I decided to make green smoothie again! It's been a long time... But I needed Vitamin C so I need recipes using kiwi... I'm sure that if I blend kiwi and spinach it would not taste great... I haven't tried but just a feeling.. lol

So what could I add to make it taste good?

Perhaps honey? ground cinnamon? I didn't like stevia that much! But I may try that again.

Eddie,

Glad you're doing smoothies again!! :) If you're eating lots of plant foods, you're getting vitamin C, and actually, spinach itself is high in vitamin C! :) Check out this link! http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=n...nt&dbid=109 . I like using a little bit of honey in my smoothies.

Hi Fairy! I saw acidophilus and I was going to buy it but I didn't, does ingredient matter?

It's a good brand but I didn't buy it because I wanted to ask first.

Is it really needed? and what for?

kiwis and spinach are great! (to me at least) i use either an apple + kiwi or pear + kiwi for my fruits in my green smoothies. i also add a tbsp of honey and so far i've liked some a lot, and others not so much. none have been bad enough where i couldn't drink it, but a dandelion base one was real close.

my favorite is the blended salad in the OP minus the cucumbers.

i find spinach to be the best tasting leafy vegetable i've used so far. still new to green smoothies.

Eddie,

This link will help explain: http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/favflora.aspx . Acidophilus helps with good digestion - it's the "good bacteria" that we need. Some people get over acne just with adding acidophilus to their diets. I use Dr. Fuhrman's brand, Jarrows, and one other than I can't think of the name right now. Dr. Fuhrman's would be a good choice, but you could also ask for recommended brands at a local health food store and rotate among them just to be sure you're getting a good variety. :)

Thanks, I'm going to buy the acidophilus when I go to the health store. I might order it from Dr. Fuhrman 🙂

Also, do you think H o l i s t a is a good brand for Vitamin D?

Eddie,

I don't know of that brand, sorry. As for the yogurt, I'd skip the dairy and just take the acidophilus. :)

But you think the ingredient are fine? Also, is it d3? Because it doesn't say it. 😐

And OK I will skip it and order the acidophilus. 😀

Eddie,

If you're going to order Dr. Fuhrman's acidophilus, you might also consider his vitamin D? I can't tell enough about the one you're considering, as all the details aren't listed.

I hope it helps Eddie! :) Are you happy with your skin care regime as well? I really like Paula Begoun's skin care line for acne prone skin. It's very well formulated.

I use proactiv which has chemicals, but it's working well. I don't mind trying out Paula skin care.

I just don't want to break out. 😛

I want to have good-looking-skin. 😀 I'm going to sleep right now so I will look tomorrow!

I may consider trying that out. 😛

Since you're eating so well now, I doubt you need something as strong and harsh as ProActive? This is what Paula Begoun, skin care expert has to say about it:

Strengths: Effective, elegant-textured AHA, BHA, and skin-lightening options; all sunscreens provide sufficient UVA protection; good options for controlling excess oil breakthrough.

Weaknesses: Several products contain irritating ingredients that do not help acne-prone skin; some gimmicky products that no dermatologist-created line should be selling (they should know better); this is not

the

answer for acne-prone skin.

Source:

Paula's Choice has a line just for acne, but I use her skin balancing line (what "used" to be her acne line): http://www.paulaschoice.com/category/skin-balancing-system . Since you're not breaking out much, I would think this line would be fine for you if you're looking for a change. :)

haha, of course not! :) Just whatever products you feel you need. I find her products to be very well formulated, well researched, gentle, and effective, and I definitely think having the right skin care products can make a difference with your skin. I'd love to find a more natural line of products, but I have yet to find a natural line that is well formulated without skin irritating ingredients, such as essential oils. The ProActive might be irritating your skin in such a way that you'll continue to have problems as long as you use it. I recommend trying Paula's sample set of the products for $5 and see how you like them first before purchasing full sizes. I don't know how long the sample set lasts - maybe two or three samples would give you a better idea.
