Hey ABG I've been doing the green smothies for 2 months and the results are incredulous!

I just want to personally thank you for introducing me to the concept of the green smoothies!

I also want to ask you since I cannot purchase stevia in Europe I bought xylitol!

Do you have any experience with it??

It's 100% natural and has 0 sugars so i presume it's ok I dunno?

AdamDolce10,

Thank you for writing!!! I'm so glad you have had such great results!! :) I don't use xylitol, but I've only heard good things about it, and it's supposed to be good for your teeth too! I think it would be just fine to use, but like anything, use in moderation. :)

what kind of blender would you recommend getting for these?

i have a 40 dollar oster one from target that works well for my fruit smoothies...but i can't blend up competely frozen fruit as it jams up so i assume its not that good. i see you recommend a vitamix as a high power blender.......400+ dollars for a blender? really?

are there any ones inbetween that would be better to upgrade, or would blending for a long time on the oster be sufficient?

Asdfqaz,

If you're constantly using a blender, as I am, a Vita-Mix is worth it, but if you're not for sure how often you'll be using yours, I'd start with something cheaper. If you look through the last couple of pages, you'll find some cheaper blenders discussed, and yes, simply blending longer seems to help with blending more thoroughly.

Definitely give your current one a go. When I first started with the smoothies, I was using a "vintage" Vita-Mix over 20 years old! haha I definitely had to blend longer with that thing, and sometimes I'd get "chunks" of greens or frozen fruit in my smoothie... but hey, it worked well enough, and my skin cleared in the process! Once I started making veggie soups, homemade salad dressings, sorbets, etc., I decided a Vita-Mix would be worth it, and it was, I absolutely love it!!! Good luck! :)

It's brilliant :)🙂

Oh I definitely only use it in moderation!!

I made meringues with a beaten egg white and 2 tsps of xylitol!!

It felt great to have a non guilt dessert :)🙂

^ That is so creative!! Doesn't eating healthfully feel like cheating sometimes since it can still be so tasty?! hehehe =) A friend of mine would make chocolate chip cookies and would use xylitol instead of sugar. She said they were great! :)

ABG,

I sent you a pm, guess you didn't see it.

WHen you bought your vitamix blender did you do any research on its competitors in the high powered blender industry?

i.e. Waring x-Treme high pwer blender MXI1300T

apparently that retails for 1100, but i can find it on sale for a tad bit more than the vitamix 5200... some of the drawbacks on the vitamix is its all user operated and doesn't have a computer in it.

Curious to your overall thoughts on the vitamix 5200, and the amount of research you made before you purchased it.

The most important thing would be to include cruciferous greens like spinach, kale and collards. :)

It's best if it's not, but non-dutch processed is hard to find unless you go to a health food store. I really don't understand the difference between the two - I'm sure it's fine. 🙂

Edit: I just found the following quote in the description of Dr. Fuhrman's non-dutch processed cocoa. It helps explain: "This cocoa powder is not Dutch processed because, in such processing, alkalinization is used to reduce the acidity and has been found to markedly reduce the antioxidant content."

Hi ABG.

well I haven't seen any improvements since I last saw improvements but I just came on to say that I have an appointment with my dermatologist tomorrow...I always get scared to see him  Haha, I think it's because I'd rather not go barefaced all the way to his office so I usually put a little bit of makeup on, not too much, and he never really says anything about it ... but I always think "what if he says something this time?" hahaha okay I'm stupid , I know. :D

Anyways, I purchased a new blender yesterday! Yes, my parents gave in haha. It's a hamilton beach blender. Works really well but I've decided that I'm going to do this from now on : use the blender one day, and the next day use the juicer. Just to mix it up a bit, you know?

Thanks!

LOL!!!!!! You are so funny, and I so understand too!!!! hahahah Back when I was breaking out, I never liked going anywhere "bare-faced" either! haha I'll be curious to hear his reaction when you say your skin improvements are due to leafy greens and nutrition! 🙂

Glad you got a blender!!! Yea!! 🙂 I think your idea of mixing the two up is a great idea!

Ever since starting to drink green smoothies every morning, my chin acne has gotten lots worse. Maybe its the fruit in them mainly the banana i add. IDK but i am taking smoothies out for now because for the last week my acne has gotten lots worse.

Non-dutch processed is usually referred to as natural cocoa and it isn't hard to find. There's Hersheys on most supermarket shelves. Dutch processed does dissolve better in water which is how I drink it, so I like Hershey's Special dark which is a blend of natural and dutch process with natural being the first on the ingredients list. So it's the best of both worlds.

JayQ,

I'm really sorry to hear that! :( Have you just started them? Some people do flare-up worse in the beginning due to detox. If you think it's the fruit - and even if it's the greens, I recommend doing a small portion of one of the "veggie" smoothies. You could use half a green apple in yours, as they are low in sugar, and maybe just drink 1/4-1/2 the recipe each day and then gradually work up to more. Chin acne is usually hormonal, and the greens work to balance hormones. I really think these can help you, so I hope you'll hang in there and give them a chance... just go easy. :)

I am still going to eat my leafy salads with with every dinner, and i will start to incoporate smoothies with no fruit in a few days and slowly work my way up. I really just think it was the banana, but will slowly add the grapes and berries back eventually, just no banana. For right now thou i gotta let my chin heal cause it is a mess. 🙁

JayQ,

That sounds like a good plan. Definitely check out the veggie recipes, because if you try to make a regular smoothie with just grapes or berries, it may not taste too great.... be forewarned. hehe =) I really hope you soon start seeing improvements, and easing into this I think will get you there eventually. Please stay in touch - would love to hear how it goes for you. :)

LOL, hahahaha 😛 But do you think it's okay to go to the dermatologist with a bit of makeup?=/ He doesn't really take an hour to check how my face is doing though, like some dermatologists do that I've heard of. He just goes "Here, let's see how you're doing.." and takes this magnify glass and just moves my face from right to left for like, 2 seconds and goes "you're doing good" LOL!! and then he just gives my prescription and walks out ...hahaha it's like he doesn't have time for me or something. hahaha 😛 I think Im exaggerating ... but I really do get scared that he might say something about me wearing a bit of makeup and make me take it off at his office or something! 😮 Oh the horror!

haha, well makeup or not, I'm sure he can still tell what's going on. It's odd that he's so quick with you though - doesn't seem very thorough. I'm sure many other doctors, that wish to be as thorough as possible, might ask you to remove it. You could always bring some foundation with you to apply "after" the appt if you wanted. But hey, with all the good nutrition you're ingesting, I'm hoping you won't have to go back to him again!!! :)

Yeah, that's what my family says too - "he's a derm, he can tell what's going on with makeup or no makeup." and yes, he is not really thorough with me.. I just tell him I need these prescriptions and he's pretty quick with it which I love. I wore a bit of makeup last time I went and he didnt seem to say anything. Hopefully it will be the same this time! I'm also hoping I won't have to go back to him either! thank you 🙂

Got my fingers crossed for ya Rosette! I'm hoping you can lower your dosage of your prescriptions soon!! Maybe you could ask about that tomorrow if you think you're not as dependent on it. :)

I take tetracycline and I stopped taking it for a year last year and broke out REAL bad ... =/ That's a ll I really take.. oh, and retin-a cream. Will lowering dosage somehow help with the green smoothies or something. . ?

I'm okay with a little Retin-A on your face, but getting off the antibiotic would just be better for your overall health. Antibiotics kills the good bacteria along with the bad, and you need good bacteria. If you come off it, definitely supplement with some acidophilus/probiotics (see my signature) to help restore good bacteria. I believe the less drugs you can take, the better!
