Hey ABG :)

well it's been like ..hmmm 4 or 5 weeks now ? I'm not sure haha.. but I do know that I have seen a difference in my skin. It seems to be healing alot quicker and I love it :)

Today I woke up and drank a cup of green smoothie from last night that was left. I then wanted to make my smoothie for tonight..but then I noticed that I didn't have any fruits/veggies left to make it. So I told myself I'd buy some later today but then forgot to ;( I have been drinking 2 glasses (one in the morning, one at night) of green smoothie a day for the past 4 or 5-ish weeks...today I only had one in the morning. Hopefully this isn't a big deal? haha, i'm pretty sure it's not but just asking you to make sure. Thanks!

P.S : The makeup I've been using is starting to bother me now. Not my skin, haha, but me. I'm not sure if it's too dark for my skin color .. because the lady @ the beauty centre said it's the right color for me but something is telling me it's too dark. Everyone else says it's pretty close to my natural skin color (except my sister, she says I look kind of tanned...). So, what makeup ( I use a powder foundation) has really good coverage but looks really natural and not cakey? Link please?

rosette,

I think you'll be just fine with just the one glass for only one day - no worries - at least you got some greens in. :) You might want to keep frozen fruit and frozen spinach on hand for days that you find you're suddenly without - both those have helped me in a pinch!

I like Paula's Choice Cream Concealer. It sounds to me like your new makeup is too dark for your skin tone. It's actually better to go a little lighter than too dark. Below are some links that might be helpful to you.

Keep enjoying those smoothies!!! :)

Just started making these and I love them. I was wondering if you could list other fruits, veggies, and other foods that are great for your skin. I've heard that ginger is awesome and was wondering if there was anything else along these lines that I could throw in. Thanks!

I wanted to give this a shot also after hearing all the good reactions. I bought myself a juicer and tried it, first smoothy tasted not bad actually.

But (theres always a but ^^)

I think I have candida, which means that sugar is a no-go at all. Even the sugar in fruits. Atm I dont realy know what to do, do I try this regimen, or avoid it because of the sugars in the fruits?

WestCoast7,

Glad you're enjoying the smoothies!! :) I haven't really sought out specific fruits/veggies for the skin, as I try to just do a mixture, but I do know that cucumber is supposed to be awesome for your skin. There should be lots of info on this that you can google - lots of posters have posted in the past about particular fruits/veggies. My guess would be that the cruciferous veggies, which are highest in nutrients, will be your best bet. Definitely do a search though - if you find a great list somewhere, feel free to share it with us! :)

Rick11,

Are you juicing instead of blending? Juicing is even better, as you get more concentrated nutrients. Do be sure you're getting in adequate fiber everyday though. The fiber is an important part of the smoothies.

About candida.... there's so much controversy out there about it. You can certainly stick to low-sugar fruits (there's a link for the low-glycemic fruits in the first post), but it's also worth pointing out that candida is an overgrowth of yeast due to a low-functioning immune system. Give your body high-nutrients, lots of cruciferous foods, and you'll up your chances of fighting it off. This is the advice of Dr. Joel Fuhrman - my favorite M.D.!!! :) I would definitely go ahead and do the smoothies, but just stick with the low-sugar fruits for now and see how you do.

Thanks ABG 🙂 and I will start o keep some frozen fruit and spinach on hand from now on!

About the concealer...is it oil-free? it's not powder is it? I'm guessing it's kind of like a powder foundation, which I love. Where can I purchase it?

rosette,

You can purchase the concealer at the website I gave, and the ingredients are listed there as well. It's not a powder foundation, and those can tend to look "cakey," so you have to be careful with those - they can also settle into fine lines more easily than a creamy foundation. I'm not sure if it's oil-free, but I've never had a problem with it breaking me out. Hope this helps! :)

oh boy, did I just make a filthy shake or what O_O almost puked :P

I did,

- Romain lettuce, 3 leafs

- 1 green apple

- 2 pieces of pear

- 1 grapefruit

I think it was the grapefruit, because it has the same kind of bitter taste as romain lettuce. not a good combo :P

I tried yesterday:

- 1 Banana

- 1 Green Apple

- few strawberrys

- spinach

And that was a good combo, spinash is verry mild of taste. Do you know which leafs are different than spinash but have a mild taste aswell ?

I found it diffuclt to make low-sugary drinks by myself :P

My parents are really iffy about me purchasing stuff from websites, so I'm going to shoppers today to check if it's there. Hopefully there is. And what are fine lines?

Thanks!

Rick11,

LOL!!! Been there!! haha Yeah, grapefruit, though great on its own, does yield a bitter taste in smoothies - it's just not sweet enough. hehe As for other greens like spinach, I find that kale is pretty mild in flavor as well. I also really like collards, though spinach is the mildest.

Remember too that if you're doing more veggies and only say, a half apple or so, definitely add lemon juice. You can get lemon juice concentrate. You won't believe how it removes bitterness. The past few days, I've been doing "turnip green" smoothies, which you would think would be really bitter, and they would be on their own, but with an apple and some lemon juice, they're great and very refreshing.... so, definitely seek out some lemon juice!! I think you'll find it to be a great addition to your smoothies. :)

rosette,

Good luck with your quest!! Fine lines are basically just really tiny wrinkles. :)

I apologize as this must have come up before, but I only have a very weak blender which is completely useless for any vegetables, so I may be purchasing a Lexen Healthy Juicer today so I can actually juice them. It's a masticating juicer, which I heard are the best forms. The "fiber" of what is put in the juicer comes out separately, and I was thinking I could then take both the juice and fiber and put it all in my weaker blender and then mix in the fruit. Do you guys think it's worth it to get a juicer, or maybe there's a better blender that will do the job? The juicer costs 150$..

Thanks guys.

Hey, that's a really good point...I doubt my magic bullet is up to par on the green smoothie front!

I'm saving for school right now...does anyone have and recs to make a green smoothie without a high quality blender? I'm kinda strapped for cash.

I'm not sure if someone already said this but I have a really cheap blender ($25) and all I do to make it really smooth is to let it blend for a looooooong time. I stick all my stuff in and then turn it on and go do something for ten minutes or so and it's always perfect. Good luck!

MMM I made a very delish smoothie today.

handful of parsley

handful of spinach

small handful of fresh mint leaves

half an apple

half cup of berries

ground flax

water

2 oz of zija

I'm in love with mint. No matter what you put in the smoothie it seems to cover up any bitter taste. It's sooo sweet. If anyone's having issues with the taste try some fresh mint leaves!!

Mr. Crab,

A juicer is a great thing to have around anyway, but they can also be a pain to clean, so I'm not sure you'd want to have to juice your smoothie ingredients everyday - unless you planned on doing additional juicing afterwards. Kelsie, above, commented that blending longer can do the trick as well. Of course, the longer you blend, the more oxidation occurs, which can destroy nutrients, but unless you have a high-powered blender (like Vita-Mix), I would just try blending longer. Also, pulp is still fairly thick - a juicer most likely won't chop it up as finely as a blender. Hope something works out. :)

kelsie123,

Great idea, and I didn't realize mint took away bitterness! Lemon juice seems to do the same, but that's great to know about mint as well! :)

I have a juicer that I practically never use unless I need juice only for something because it is hard to clean and pulp is the healthy part and I want to consume it as well. It is just taking up space in my cabinets : )

I have been drinking green smoothies for years, but haven't ventured into this thread yet. I can't wait to go back through it and find some new recipes.

Well, personally, I LOVE my juicer! I have to admit though, it is a pain to clean all the time but it doesn't take longer than 5 minutes for me...maybe even less. Everyone's been telling me that a blender isn't really good for green smoothies and that it totally takes the nutrients away and all. Someone even told me that the juice a blender makes is kind of like a sauce..? I don't know if what I've been hearing is true or not... all I know is that a juicer works just as well as a blender.

Thanks for the response. I will most likely use my new juicer to make juices out of things that won't work in my cheap blender and either just drink it or put it in the blender. Maybe I will take the pulp or "fiber" and put it in the blender with other stuff, so it should work out good.

I used a blender for the first couple of days that I was making green smoothies and my blender totally stopped working after a few weeks. It was a $160 blender too... and now I'm using my juicer and I gotta say, it works so much better than the blender! it takes the juice out of anything and tastes magnificent 🙂

I just realized it's almost August 25th.. which will mark six weeks of me drinking green smoothies! I don't see any "dramatic" results though, but I did see some change in week two. Since week two, I haven't seen much of a change. Who knows, maybe it will take a longer time for me to see dramatic results. Hopefully, just maybe, some sort of change might happen soon...pray for me guys! (:

^^^^Juicers and blenders are both good and serve different purposes, so there's no need to compare which is better. Juicing takes away the fiber - blenders keep it but just blend everything up. If you're wanting a super high concentration of nutrients, then juicing is the way to go. Juicing is a wonderful way to heal the body. Blenders are good if you're wanting to preserve the fiber and want more of a "smoothie" texture vs. a "juice." If juicing, I still think it's important to blend smoothies, or at least be sure to eat plenty of fiber rich fruits and veggies. The fiber is important, as good digestion is vital to healthy skin.

rosette,

I don't know who is telling you that blenders take away the nutrition. You get four times the nutrition from foods when they're blended, and I know I get plenty of nutrition from my blended smoothies, as my skin tells me. :)

Mr. Crab,

That sounds like a great plan!

veganwithacne,

Hope you find some great recipes!

Yea, you're right ABG. Friends have been telling me that ... guess they were wrong:P

Well anyways, today makes it 6 weeks of drinking green smoothies for me! woohoo!

I woke up this morning and saw some more change in my skin! Some scars were faded this morning:) I'm still going to keep drinking green smoothies though, until my scars are all gone.

Thanks ABG!

i like the idea of green smoothies but I don't have the time and patience to do all that. Instead I take liquid chlorophyll. This stuff is great with detoxification

rosette,

I'm glad you are continuing to see improvements!! :)

kelsie123,

There are many days where I don't feel like making a smoothie, but it's just something I make myself do. Keeping it simple helps. I normally use pre-washed, bagged greens. I can quickly cut up an apple, pear or open up a banana. Adding frozen fruit is a breeze, and rinsing out the blender and setting it out to air dry just takes a minute. It becomes easier once you make it a habit as well - like brushing your teeth, you may not always feel like doing it, but because it's habit, you just do it anyway. If nothing else, just do it for yourself - you deserve a green smoothie everyday. :)

Also, you might want to try, in the beginning, just making your smoothies every other day while storing half the batch in the fridge for the next day. You could even, once a week, cut up all your fruit for that week, store each days fruit in a container and pop in the freezer so it's ready when you need it.

StriderHien,

I've heard good things about chlorophyll. However, no substitute can take the place of actual food. If you're only taking chlorophyll, you're missing out on great number of additional benefits that can be obtained from the smoothies. See my above post - making smoothies is pretty easy. :)
