Sorry I'm just now responding!!! I've never done a smoothie only cleanse, but I think it's a great idea! Dr. Fuhrman, mentioned in my first post, recommends a 5 day detox diet to people. I just looked it over, and it consists of greens, veggies and fruit.... which would be like a smoothie cleanse. He also has people include 4 tbs of seeds everyday (like flax, sesame and sunflower), so I would do that as well for extra fat/protein. So anyway, I'm sure a smoothie cleanse would be fine!! My Recipe:
Strawberries!!!
Blueberries~!!
Grapes!
Small handful of baby romaine mixed greens.
One Banana
One Orange
Whatever other fruits are lying around. (Why not?)
Make sure to add one tablespoon of flax seed oil, this puts your smoothie into the 'super food' category.
Here's the trick: Add a good amount of Low Fat Organic Yogurt.
Add a bunch of ice.
Don't bother with any other juice, you won't need to. I find the yogurt with ice mix makes it nice and creamy. Fruits, Veggies, Yogurt, Omega 3s and tastes good? You can't beat that!
^ Sounds like a great smoothie, and I like your philosophy of using what you have lying around! haha Flax is great to add in - I like using ground flax seeds so that I get the lignans and all the other great stuff that comes with the whole seed. Bananas are great for giving a creamy flavor without having to use dairy for anyone looking for a dairy alternative, as dairy can be a big contributer to acne. So glad you're on board with the smoothies, and thanks for posting!

Thanks for the link, i shall certainly aim to use many of those ingredients in my cleanse. I always use seeds in my smoothies so thats not a problem, i usually use flax.
Im thinking of starting it on Thursday as i think that will be a good time to begin for me. Im not planning on going out this weekend so im going to try and last as many days as i possibly can with this cleanse. Im really hoping i get some good results from it, am hoping it gives me alot more energy as well as im feeling quite tired alot recently. It will certainly give my insides a rest from having to digest lots of foods each day.
I shall defiently keep you updated 🙂 Would be nice if theres anyone else willing to do this to start at the same time.

I've gotten into juicing again lately. I juice collards, kale, spinach, cabbage, etc and mix half and half with carrot or apple juice (usually carrot). I then pour the juice into glass canning jars and seal them up with a Food Saver (which sucks out the remaining air in the jar) so that they'll last about 4 days in my fridge. I'm still doing smoothies too - the juicing is just a means to get even more nutrition into my diet.

I would like to start juicing again too. I just got abit lazy as they always seemed to take much longer to wash up than blenders. Maybe during the cleanse would be a good time to give it ago again. I would be interested in juicing cucumber as it supposed to be good for your complexion, and i would also like to include carrots as that is what i used to juice. Have you ever juiced beetroots before? I was just reading about one juice drink that you can make is carrots, cucumber and beetroot so i am intrigued to give that one a go.

I agree that juicers can be a pain to clean! It's helps to juice for a few days worth so that cleaning the juicer isn't an everyday thing. I have juiced beets before, and they're delicious! I heard once that you shouldn't consume more than half a beet a day though, as they are very detoxifying, and you don't want to overdue it. I used to juice them with carrots, cucumber, celery, etc. Of course, these days, when I juice, I do at least half cruciferous vegetables, since those are the most healing.

It defiently sounds alot better when you are able to make them last for up to 4 days than having to mess about making them everyday. I was just wondering about the food saver that you mentioned, are they actual food saver containers or is it just a food saver roll? Ive been having a search and found several different things.
Whilst doing the green smoothie cleanse will it be okay to take supplements like zinc still?
I have began the cleanse today, just had my second smoothie. I have felt abit hungry through the day, unfortunately i get make my first smoothie at 8.30am and dont get to have another one till just gone 5. I think im going to get used to it though and not find it too bad after a couple of days. Going to be testing my juicer to see if it works, not sure if it will though.
Wow!!! I loved it. I made one yesterday afternoon right after I read this thread. It was great. I made both of my usually smoothies and added Romaine Lettuce. I could not even tell in taste. It was green, but great. I felt great today. I always buy Greens and tell myself that I will eat more salad and I never do, but now I am going through that lettuce fast. We are all so lucky to have this place. I wish I would I found it sooner and had it when I was younger. You all are the best!!!!

i was wondering if all of you guys use organic greens for the green smoothie. [or at least labelled no pesticides and herbisides used]
what i use are locally produced hydroponics greens that does not use pesticides and herbicides. but the variety of greens available is rather limiting. only 3 types of greens.
are non-organic greens dangerous for raw consumption?
anybody tried red \ purple cabbage for the green smoothie? i was thinking of using that but its not certified organic. and im worried abt how clean it is. there are lots of 'dirty' looking greens out there, anybody experienced food poisoning from those?
i need more cruciferous greens. but my country doesnt sell collards or kale. only spinach is available. i suppose red cabbage is a good alternative?
yeah I put a lot of cinnamon and ginger powder in my smoothies, tastes good.
Does anyone find that when they use an avacado in there smoothie it always makes them so thick and quite undrinkable? It also leaves it so thick that when i pour it into the cup alot stays in the blender.

I tried that but unfortunately didnt help. However, just adding half an avacado works perfectly and i no longer a horrible thick smoothie. I shall start giving it a go with the spices in my smoothies 😀
I made my first green smoothie today and it was very delicious! Here's what I used;
One banana
Half an apple
A handful of blueberries
a few strawberries
two handfulls of spring mix/ baby romaine
a cup of water
Tommorow I'm going to cut down the fruit a bit. The only reason I added so much today was because I didn't want the smoothie to taste too green, but the flavour was completey masked! Also, the smoothie has kept me full from breakfast to dinner, and it was delicious.

I've decided to start with green smoothies and want to buy a machine. As far as I know there are two different types of machines: Blenders and juicers.
The result of a blender is a more or less thick food mass (sorry about my English), called a smoothie. There are no left overs.
A juicer on the other hand makes perfectly fluid juice and there will be left overs from your fruits and vegetables that you throw away.
I haven't read the entire thread yet, but it seems like everyone here is using a blender and not a juicer. What's the reason for that? Is there an advantage of blenders over juicers with regard to health. -Or the other way round?
Speaking in favor of blenders, could it be, that the leftovers that would be thrown away in the case of a juicer are actually nutritionally important? Or speaking in favor of juicers, could it be, that the nutrients in juice can be absorbed better than the nutrients in smoothies, because those are thicker?
Ok, since I want to buy a really good machine for around 400$, it would be great, if you could let me know which one (blender or juicer) is better with regard to health and also why that is so.

Quite bland tasting, i don't think i made it smooth enough though, a fair amount of bits, how smooth should i make it or does that not matter?
I don't really care about the taste, if it helps my skin, just down it like it's alchohal lol
Oh also, i made a pints worth, is this too much or?
I just made a smoothie i was expecting to be awful but it wasnt all too bad. It contained.....
-Abit of spinach, kale and some other green veg, plus bits of beetroot. It was just a bag of seperate things
-Strawberries
