Hi! 🙂 Spinach is my favorite, but no, it's not a good idea to do everyday, unless you do small amounts everyday I suppose - you definitely don't want to go overboard with it, and you need a variety of leafy greens.

That would probably be okay - you might just want to do a little research and see what conclusion you come up with. Here's a little quote though that makes it seem that spinach is fine to eat as long as it's raw:

No Need To Worry About The Oxalic Acid In Raw Spinach

Some people are concerned that they'll leach calcium by eating spinach. It turns out this is quite unlikely to be a problem for most people.

Here's a quote from Dr. Gabriel Cousens book "Conscious Eating," on this very point.

"In one extensive study on children put on a high-spinach diet and other high-oxalate foods, no evidence of any alteration of calcium, vitamin D, or phosphorous metabolism was found. It is possible, however, if a person has a low calcium intake or poor calcium metabolism, that a high-oxalate diet could cause a calcium deficiency."

Another factor is whether the spinach is cooked or raw. It's believed the oxalic acid will not bind with the calcium when the spinach is raw. In other words, eat as much spinach as you want as long as it's raw.

Did you know that many other raw foods naturally contain oxalic acid? Foods like sesame seeds, nuts, citrus fruit, tomatoes, asparagus, beets, Swiss chard, dandelion greens and cranberries. So if you haven't been worrying about the oxalic acid content in these foods, I don't think you need to worry about it by increasing your consumption of raw spinach.

I still think a variety is good, but if the above is true, then you should be fine eating spinah every other day - or even everyday, but just get a variety! 🙂

Do you think I am over consuming here? Are there any side effects if I am indeed drinking way over the limit?

Each day:

3 large apples

2 bananas

1 carrot

2 kiwi or 3 small tomatoes

4 handfuls of fixed salad greens

Slightly less than a full bottle of water

It's a lot of fruit, but you have a lot of greens in there too, and you're getting in a LOT of great nutrients!!!!!!! I guess you could do one or two less servings of fruit, but if you're large and workout a lot, that's probably just fine! Sounds like a GREAT smoothie!!!!

I am happy this is working for you all :)! It must be amazing. Sadly I feasibly can't do this, but I do take multi veggie, '10' complex pills, which are essential phytonutrients for the body, and they also work amazing! So I do share your happiness on a tangent.

Veggies are awesome, who knew they could be so powerful! Also in combination with lots of fruits they are like super food.

You're awesome for making this thread, threadstarter, it's helping lots of people I can see. I think you, and happygurl (the person who introduced me to acv) as well.

My body is fabulous now.

If you guys also want to take some veggie pills, they are a good supplement to the shakes as well

Ridding acne one day at a time

Thank you so much! That's very nice to hear - getting the word out about green smoothies was the main reason I joined the board! 🙂 I'm really happy to hear that you have found help on these boards!

hi IT!

thanks for the info on raw spinach!

i decided to eat it every other day, alternating with kale or romaine lettuce (if i have)

i've been drinking the smoothie for 3 weeks by tomorrow. i haven't noticed much difference in my skin, but i think that has something to do with the rest of my diet :( i eat a huge amount of sugar everyday. i've tried to stop but it's SO hard, feels like i'm addicted to sugar.

in your sig. it says you eat healthily 80% of time, so how often do you "cheat"? and what foods do you eat that are considered unhealthy?

i'm thinking of cutting down on sugar very gradually now...because if i try to stop completely all of sudden, i think i'll start craving sugar more at the end of the day.

Hi! 🙂 Sounds like a good idea to alternate between those three - you may want to consider spring mix as well, since it's a big variety of lots of different leafy greens.

Like you, my biggest downfall is sugar!! If I eat a ton of it, and skip a day or two of smoothies at the same time, I might break out, but usually they are just small bumps. I'll sometimes go days without sugar though, but if it's around, it's hard to skip, so usually at night, I'll have a serving of junk, like ice cream (chemical free from Whole Foods), or popcorn with butter. Junk isn't in my house very often though, and usually when I eat junk, it's organic popcorn with organic butter. Lately, I've been drinking chai tea with honey and find that very satisfying. Mixed nuts are good with a few m&ms sprinkled in, and if you're going to go for chocolate, dark is has less sugar - it's best to go for 70% cocoa content or higher. Oh! I almost forgot! Another treat, a healthy one, that I enjoy is raw oatmeal, with raw almond butter, honey, and cocoa powder. I do this quite a bit actually. 🙂

Ok, I have heard thing about Detoxing for a while and I am thinking of doing it. The reason I am posting here is because I am thinking of going on NOTHING BUT GREEN SMOOTHIES for perhaps a week. Here is how I think it would work:

A green smoothie for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Consisting of:

1 cup mixed berries

1 handfull prewashed organic baby greens

1 banana

2 cups chilled green tea

1/4 organic ACV

2 tbsp Falxseed Oil

1 scoop green+ multi+ (morning only)

Drinking about 2L of water daily

Green tea with cinnamon and honey once daily

Will keep up 500mg Tetracyclene 2x a day

Any thoughts on this?

^ I don't know much about fasting, but I would think fasting on green smoothies would be a great idea! Maybe you could add an avocado if you need something more filling? Good luck!

^ Thanks for sharing how you make your smoothies with us! That's a good thing to know about spinach. I think I've heard somene mention it's because of all the iodine. As for mixing fruits and veggies, it's okay to mix fruit with leafy greens, but yes, if you're adding in carrots, broccoli, etc, it's probably best not to use fruit. I'm glad you're still enjoying the smoothies! :)

Just thought I'd post my skin, super drink recipe.

1 Apple

1 Pear

Small handful of blueberries and raspberries

2 large handfuls of leafy greens (usually kale, but variety is good)

4 Green Tea Ice Cubes

2tbsp ACV

1-2tbsp Essential Oils (Flax in the morning, EVOO in the afternoon and Cod Liver in the evening)

.50L water

Blend well.

Goes down well, not too chunky, not too liquidy, and loaded with skin benefiting vitamins and nutrients.

olive oil doesn't have a on of taste. I use about 2 tblspoons per smoothie. All I have noticed is thst is gives a "thick" taste if that makes any sense. Add a little and taste. If it's okay, add a little more. So on and so forth.

If you're worried about the taste, you could try just taking the oil on its own and not mixing it in.

EVOO = Extra Virgin Olive Oil

That's the kind you want. Look for cold pressed on the bottle too.

I actually like taking flax or fish oil. I don't mix them in my smoothie though, as the oil makes the blender harder to clean, so I just take the oil before I drink my smoothie - the fats help absorb more of the nutrients in the smoothies.
