Venus in Virgo Gal,Is it more like a food tablet? If it's isolated beta-carotene, be careful, because like isolated vitamin A, it has been liked to problems. It's safest to get carotenoids from actual foods. I think it has something to do with the body needing to get all the phytochemicals at once rather than isolated... I don't fully understand it myself! haha 🙂
It's not isolated beta-carotene because it contains other nutrients. I don't think it would be considered a real food tablet. The carotenoid complex is a very minimal food tablet if it is considered one. I'm not very informed on food tablets or food vitamins, but this is an example of a food vitamin right?

This is what the carotenoid complex I take contains:
Vitamin A (beta carotene (d-salina) 25,000IU 500%
Broccoli Concentrate (source of sulforaphane) 50mg **
Pumpkin Concentrate 25mg **
Carrot Seed Oil 10mg **
Lutein 5000mcg **
Lycopene 3000mcg **
Alpha Carotene 1000mcg **
Lipoic Acid 1000mcg **
Astaxanthin (Antarctic krill) 1000mcg **
Zeaxanthin 360mcg

I read the article, and it made sense... but I still have doubts. I'm in high school, and cutting out dairy completely would be pretty difficult. I'm sure if it was that important to me I could do it, but what about vitamin D and "building strong bones"? Wouldn't I have to start taking pills to make up for what I'm losing when I stop drinking milk?
I'm sorry for being difficult. It's just kind of a shocker. 🙁 I have one more question though. The article said that the hormones in milk are what mess with our own hormones right? (The article was a little confusing.) So if I started drinking organic milk that wasn't treated with hormones, could I still drink milk?

Venus,
Go to this link and scroll down to the vitamin A/beta-carotene part - it will explain much better than I can! http://www.drfuhrman.com/shop/GCF.aspx
Smarties,
You're not being difficult - no worries!! With all the conflicting theories out there, it gets really confusing, and it's great that you're asking questions! Many doctors and now recommending a separate vitamin D supplement, and calcium for building strong bones is actually better absorbed from vegetables. I looked for an article that explains - this one looks like it might do the trick: http://www.diseaseproof.com/archives/osteo...teoporosis.html

Just wanted to share my story. Im in my third year of college. I had never had acne until I hit 19 my Junior year of college. I couldn't understand it, why would I get acne so late. No one else in my family had acne. My acne was moderate, but I feel as if any acne is sever acne. I had whiteheads and the kind that you could feel under the skin that are painful, headless, and inflamed. For a long time I picked and squeezed too. Yes, I had problems with hyper pigmentation and red marks. I tried every topical treatment including proactive, salicylic acid, clean n clear, green tea etc. I always thought I ate fairly healthy, at least I didn't eat much fast food and never ate candy chips etc. Anyway this acne came at a bad time and killed my social life all junior year. It was miserable. I have been doing green smoothies for about a week and am almost 100% clear now! I couldn't believe it. Right after starting the green smoothies I haven't gotten a single blemish! I only have a few red marks that are fading fast. My social life is great and I can finally go out and talk to girls again. My self esteem has never been better. And it only cost $100 for the food processor and a few dollars for the food used. I have been drinking about 16oz of blended fruit and vegetables once in the morning and once before bed for the past week. I blend the following: handful of kale, handful of spinach, whole apple, whole kiwi, handful of grapes, one whole large carrot, and some orange juice. Doesn't taste half bad, and its really good for your body. I believe acne is a sign your body is giving you that something is wrong with your body. I guess I was not getting enough RAW fruits and vegetables, not enough natural raw vitamins and minerals. I previously had tried many supplements and vitamins, but they did NOTHING. RAW green smoothies is where it is at! I can finally enjoy life once again! Props to RAW green smoothies!!! Everyone try this!
Oh, and I forgot to add, I drink almost a gallon of milk a day and all kinds of carb rich protein powders.
Just wondering how much sugar these smoothies have? I eat maybe 35-45grams of sugar a day from various berries and carrots/tomatoes.
If I started drinking some of these smoothies, would I have to cut down my current intake by 10-15 grams? I don't want to go overboard on the sugar.
gmen49er and krazy4korn,
Thank you both so much for these great testimonies!! It always makes me so happy to hear that green smoothies have helped one more person! gmen49er, try to mix up your ingredients a little here and there. Your current smoothie mix sounds awesome though!! I think the high beta-carotene content, which safely gets converted into the amount of vitamin A that your body needs, along with the fiber, is a big reason for why the smoothies work so great at clearing skin. I don't for sure know that it's just raw blended greens that work though - some people just use cooked blended greens (like frozen greens) and get results as well - just something to keep in mind in case you were to not have easy access to fresh greens! I hope your results continue to be great!
NodFlenders,
Sorry your question hasn't been answered. I have never measured the amount of sugar in my smoothies, but if you're worried, just chose low-sugar fruits/vegetables (there is a link on the first page about low GI foods). You can also do vegetable smoothies or blended vegetable soups (recipes on the first page). Hope this helps.
^ Thanks for sharing the information Eddie! 🙂
Oh, hey! It's been a while. I hope you're doing good! I really missed you. ha ha.
You're my good good good friend. 🙂
Anyhow, I'm still drinking green smoothie. Everyday. It keeps my skin normal.. so smooth.
My skin is better with occasional 1-2 small zits.
^ Hey friend!!!! You are so nice! Thank you. 🙂 I'm glad the smoothies are still working well for you, and I hope everything else is going well too!!!! 🙂
Thanks! Everything else is going well, except for no job yet, but I have a high chance now since school's starting. Take care!!! If anything , I will e-mail you.

If you're concerned by the sugar content, you can add only a piece or two of fruit, or no fruit at all. It doesn't taste great, but eventually you get used to it. There are a lot of lower sugar fruits you can use too. Choose a fruit that's high in flavor but low in sugar (like berries) so you get the fruit FLAVOR but not so much of the sweet. I cringe now at eating anything too sweet because of my diet :]
I'l jump to the point and be honest about myself. I'm lazy when it comes to food. I eat whats around and I work most days and don't have the time or money to buy the ingredient for these. Any place I can buy green smoothies? Or at least a similar product from maybe naked juice or something?
I dont mean to sound like a pain, I was just wondering.

Naked juice is pasturized so all the nutrients are destroyed. All you need to do is go to the grocery store and buy leafy greens, put em in the blender, and in 1 minute, you'll have fresh green juice that's not pasturized and has chloryphill and all good nutrients that feed your skin with life.
I sound like an infomercial.

Damn. Ok. I was hoping their green machine juice would be an alternative, but I guess not. I really dont like greens except broccoli and I cant imagine drinking it. But I'll look into this soon. (Dont really have the money for it)
Thanks 🙂 Infomercial or not, it was helpful.
Hi, i might try these smoothies as my daily diet but i have a question. For the fruits, would you recommend i use oranges? or is it too much sugar? and what other fruits are there that are low in sugar besides pears, and green apples?
It might come out bad for you, but keep trying! I remember making green smoothie for the first time.. tasted really bad.
Any kind of berries will do! Also, mangoes gives an incredible taste. Bananas is good if you're not allergic to it. However, they're high in sugars. Good luck with your smoothies.
PS: Orange is not needed.
Xech,
Oranges aren't the best for masking the flavor of the greens. You might consider a veggie smoothie. They are actually very tasty!! There's a recipe for it on the first page as well as a link for low GI foods that you might find helpful.
yvonnelilly,
So cool that you grow your own wheat grass!!
BeadyB,
Since you like broccoli, you might just start with veggie soups. You can blend up some broccoli (you can use frozen broccoli even) with some broth, add in some frozen veggies, some beans or maybe brown rice, seasonings, and you have a very easy to make, nutrient-rich soup! You can even blend broccoli with pasta sauce - it's great!! Good luck!
Just bought a blender and tried one today... delicious!! Some spinach, strawberries, blueberries and oranges. Simple and satisfying.
ABG Fairy, you seem like a beyond awesome lady! I read this post from the very beginning, it's amazing how you comment everything!! That was very inspiring to do these.
