I suffer from bad bacne for years and mild facial acne that didnt bother me know one said anything about the bacne coz I was covered up and wore makeup on my face. Then I started working for DERMALOGICA. And used there products my face became really bad arghhhh so hard to sell skin care when ur face is bad! One day it was so bad like cystic on my jawline I didn't wear makeup! Deff noticed I made less sales lol. But il never forgot that day cause a co worker came out of nowhere when I was in mid conversation with someone (customer!!!!) and said "you got real bad breakout!" ... Fair to say I almost broke down and the customer even told her that she shouldn't point out things like that etc etc...

This morning I was helping my 7 year old brother do a craft. He was using little (not sure what they're called) fuzzy colorful balls to decorate paper bags and make puppets. Not really the point...anyways, my brother said he can make a puppet that looks like me because they had red balls like my acne. :(

My personal favorite is when people tell you about an over the counter face wash that will clear up your skin because if it works on their own face it must work on every other single persons skin in the world. Do people think we don't wash our faces? Do people think we haven't gone to the dermatologists and tried almost every kind of pill there is to offer? Do people think we don't watch what food and the amount of sugar we put into our body? Do people think that we want acne all over our face??? Did we ask for this? Are we dealing with this? Will things eventually get better? I have had sever acne since the age of 16 and my skin didn't calm down for 7 years. I am now 29 years old and I still use my regimen daily. I have only a few pimples here and there but do have physical scarring and minor discoloration from all of the old acne. That's not the hard part. The hard part is all of the psychological and emotion scarring that is still with me to this very day. Maybe its because I've heard remarks such as:

1. "Wow you're really breaking out"

2. "That kid has the worst acne I've ever seen in my life"

3. "What's that on your face?"

4. I was a waiter in a restaurant one time and customer who seemed to only have positive intentions slipped me a piece of paper that said "proactiv" on it and he said that it cleared his son's acne right up. (It hurts when people that haven't lived this try to help and give you advice on something they don't know very much about)

I was always ready and waiting for someone to say something and I would watch people's eyes and always catch them staring at my skin. I knew what was coming and that sucked. Just someone looking at your skin hurts. I remember 10 years ago I was at this same website and I thought to myself that my skin would never clear up and that I tried everything and I remember feeling very helpless and hopeless. But here I am today to say that things do get better and will get better. Things took a long time to improve but they did. If I could say anything to the old me that was at this site 10 years ago it would be "Smile kid because you're going to do some pretty amazing shit in your life and that acne isn't going to stop you from accomplishing any of it."

This definitely isn't the meanest as he was my friend and was trying to give me advice during one of my breakouts, he told me the ever so dreadful "you should wash your face."

I think that hits a nerve more than any intended insult lol.

I can't believe the abuse some of you have put up with. It's a good thing no one has said this sort of stuff to me. I would be in prison for murder. Seriously.

Where I live mostly everyone has been polite. In my highschool it's an absolutely untalked about subject. A silent rule, if you will. Once though, one guy said, "im happy i dont have ur face.". I said, "Bitch please, I just got into Harvard.". My friend was at our table, stood up slammed his hands on the table and screamed, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOWNED!"

One of the happier moments of my life.

*sigh* I don't mind getting acne because I know it's part of growing up etc but what I hate are the hyperpigmentation marks because it makes my face look like I have a ton of acne!

I'm 16 and no one at school comments on my acne except one person who's my "friend."

"You need to use this because your face is getting really bad"

"Use proactiv, it worked for her, your face is getting worse"

"wooooow it looks really bad man"

"maybe you should use some makeup"

"dont use lemon, I tried. it wont work for you"

It is so annoying and pisses me off because he doesn't understand my skin! He thinks the whole world revolves around your appearance and honestly no one but him cares!!!! Its so frustrating and soon he's gonna lose a friend!

It wasn't so much what people said. It was more-so how they looked at me which said it all.

But I remember people saying things like "do you use the right cleanser?" or "you should see a dermatologist" or "what happened to your face?"

But the looks. Those made me feel the worst.

My dad's girlfriend's sister - "Just please don't confuse our pillows - I wouldn't like to accidentally put my face on your pillow! Yuk." ( she was always openly disgusted by my acne)

This is F'd up right here

"Friend" who had bad acne when mine was semi clear a few years ago.

Hadn't seen her in months and during these months I had a really bad breakout, it's pretty much cleared up just red spots and a couple pimples now feeling much better about it and getting confident to not wear makeup. Went and see her today walk in the door first thing she says when she looks at me is "YOUR SKIN!"... All I could reply is "this is actually really good considering what it was like 2 months ago!"

Fuxk youuuuuuuu for shattering my confidence again and fuck you coz I never said anything about your skin when u had acne!

God why don't some people have a conscience!

The breakouts doesn't bother me that much, but the worst is when you are on one of your persistent breakouts and run into an old friend or crush you haven't seen in a while lol.

You used to look so good...I miss your face...What happened...Whoa...All said by some of my family and friends, they don't even mean it offensively so it hurts even more to hear these thingsBut I always feel somehow they take me less seriously now. Also I can tell that girls who were once jealous of me are now reeeeally happy to see how much "different" I look... That sucks the most since I never gave them a reason to hate me, I just had a beautiful face.On the upside(I guess lol)- It's a vain, vain world and it took a whole lot of acne and scars for me to see past it, and I suppose I am capable of sympathizing with people more now than ever before.

I read many of the comments people made here and personally I find it interesting how acne is a common thing people go through yet people are so insensitive about it. After years of being on medications (including Accutane) I think I will suffer in other ways. I have dry eyes and it seems chronic... If acne was more accepted since it is afterall normal, maybe people would just deal with it and wouldn't feel pressured to take drugs or do treatments that may or may not be harmful and lead to long-term issues down the road... It just makes me sad how people can be so judgemental with acne. What about disabled people? Or those with no arms or no legs. Just because someone is different doesn't mean they should be treated any different.

I'm tired of people. Lol. And how shallow people really are when it comes down to it. And the funny thing is we all age and appearance fades anyway. But ACNE is something that is usually not permanent...

In the past three days, one kid told me that if I wanted to be successful (I'm in a band) then I should try washing my face, a hitchhiker I picked up asked me what I was going to do about my face, and an old lady in Safeway asked me if I had the measles or mumps, while I was with my girlfriend.

I hate people!

My mom says that to me all the time. When I went to my GP and some place to get a facial, she couldn't stop talking about how I used to be so cute when I was little, but now how I wasn't because I have acne. She also mentions how nasty my face is on a regular basis. My mom is a materialistic person, so I sorta understand how it would upset a person with her personality.

However, I'm her child and for her to make those types of comments really did get to me. I'm not bothered by many things in the world, but those comments stick with me everyday knowing how she really feel about me. Sometimes I wonder if her love is unconditional.

When your having a class discussion and your in the middle of an argument. And it's ended by "well you're covered in acne" and you have no reply back by "no kidding"

I knew a guy at work who used to get really bad cysts/nodules. REALLY bad. One time he had one that literally took up the entire space between his eyes -- it must have been an inch-plus across -- and I felt so, so bad for him, because I know how it feels.

A couple of weeks later, I got a bad spot in the same damn place! He takes one look at it and freaks out, asking me what was wrong with me and making a big song and a dance about it in front of our colleagues. I was speechless that he would be so insensitive about something that he goes through himself. Then it hit me -- it's understandable, but not condonable, but it seemed to me that he was making himself feel better about his skin problems by getting on my case about mine. Still struck me as really insensitive and tactless, though.

the cashier at Marshalls a fews ago looked at me and said OMG are you treating your face? You should go to a dermatologist in front of everyone. I literally wanted to die a little. It gets worse she picks up the phone and calls her daughter who had suffered from acne previously. She continues to tell her daughter about a girl who has awful acne (me) and wrote down what topicals she was using. I was mortified and went home that night and cried.

Luckily, I have never hardly had anything bad said to me about my acne, really. I guess that I am just really lucky.

The worst thing if I would HAVE to say though, would be last year, when I got a REALLY big zit on my nose. I grew a zit on my nose the morning I had to get up for school, right after the weekend had ended. (They always pop up at the worst times, huh?) and as soon as I had stepped foot into one of the school hallways, one of my friends infront of 3-4 other people had said: "You have a big ass zit on your nose, dude"!

I had thought to myself: "No shit, man. No friggin' shit." I get very embarrassed easily so, I was in a bad mood for the rest of the period. I've also had people, not often but, stare at a bad spot on my face for a few seconds and look away. Even that can make you feel kinda crappy.

I don't grow zits on my nose anymore but, last year, My dad would also make fun of me sometimes and call me: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the dinner table or say: "I see you have a visitor". It got pretty annoying. Overall though like I had said, I don't get too many mean comments, lol.
