My 7 year old cousin told me how I was ugly and that I have red dots on my face. I know he didn't mean it but being told that still hurts. Even to this day, it still pains me terribly that other people may think the same.

Usually its 'whats wrong with your face??? '

One of my mums friends suggested i use dettol on my face to get rid of the acne.

Whats worse is when your talking to someone and instead of looking into your eyes theyre staring at your acne!!! - HOW RUDE!!

No matter what, everyone will notice acne. I've excepted that. I've heard it all. This is my 5th year suffering from acne. I've heard I'm not eating the right foods, I'm not washing my face, and I've heard that I'm just plain dirty. And a few years ago a guy asked me if i smoked alot of drugs because my face looks sunk in from all the scars.

However, I can't let anyone kno that it bothers me, even tho i often cry at night because i feel like a monster or i just wish that I could be normal. Feeling sorry for yourself will not make you feel better. Even though i have absolutly no self confidence, I walk with my head held high and laugh at narrow-minded comments which people are going to always make, no matter who you are. I just try not to let it bother me too much even though it hurts my feelings so much. I'll think that, if i didnt have acne, i would be more atractive. I say fuck society! Who are they to say whats acceptable in a person and what is not! I may have acne, but I'm the same person, with or without. Just sometimes i feel jipped. When i was younger (before acne) i was always told that i could be a model someday. I think im still pretty, but i can't seem to look past the redness and the scars. my friends often tell me that they're jealous of my looks, but how could I believe them? And my boyfriend always gets mad at me because whenever he tells me that I'm beautiful, I look away and don't believe him. I just want self esteem.

Just put volumizer in your hair and get a push-up bra and voila! you will have self-esteem :D

I need the *oppisite* of a push up bra. They don't really sell those. :(

(Well, they do, but "minimizer" bras are actually "seperate your breasts and shove them into your armpits on the sides of your ribcage" bras.)

Pfffft everyone can use a push-up bra! And why would anyone want to minimize boobies?

lol - because I don't really have breasts. I have two monsters that could eat small children for breakfast and still be hungry attatched to my torso.

I'm a 36 DDD (yes, triple D - the ribcage of a C cup, but the bust of someone easily a hundred lbs bigger) , big enough to have all of the problems of truly large breasted women, but small enough around the ribcage as to make finding bras akin to search for the Holy Grail. But I suppose it could be worse. I'm finally getting used to them.

Many years ago I went to the doctor for a problem with my ankle. Right before I left his office he said "you'd be a really pretty girl if you'd clear up that acne."

I was so embarrassed and hurt. My acne was pretty mild at that point. I was suddenly very self-conscious about my face. The guy was an ass. I shouldn't have let it bother me but it did.

I've never had anybody really say anything mean to me... why? cuz, I look like a MEAN MOTHERFUCKER! coupled with me being built, nobody ever wanted to mess with me.

fuckin' zit shit... damn

As silly as this sounds I can actually kind of relate. Before I had acne I wasnt bad looking (If I do say so myself) and I used to dress all nice and have an almost pretty boy (but not quite, I hate the pretty boy look!) hair style.

Nowadays with my face as scarred as it and the color of my facial skin comepletely uneven I feel like I have to put up a meaner front, that I cant pull off the whole nice looking/ wholesome look anymore. Maybe its like a psychological defense mechanism; The meaner you look the less likely people will bother you about your skin. I dunno, maybe Im just talking shit, but I do know that whenever I go back to my old style, the way I used to dress and behave before I got acne I actually feel uncomfortable. Maybe its as simple as society forcing me to change the way I am simply because I look different then I used to. Ah fuck knows, Im rambling.

i get u about the psychological defense mechanism cuz i'm exactly the same way, i don't want to sound like i'm lecturing you here but be careful with that mean look because it might become one of those permanent ways that you hold yourself and when that happens not alot of people will want to approach you anymore.

for me it was not just what they said, it was also their facial reactions that made it worse!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't include this in my initial post, but somebody reffered to a doctor saying something about their acne. I still remember about 3 months ago, when i first decided to go to a dermatologist. It was a walk in clinic so i had to wait. When i just wanted to sign my name in she asked me what the reason for seeing a doctor is. I told her i need some sleeping advice and have acne problems so i need a refferal to dermatologist. She told me ohhh, "for that rash on your forehead" (i'm just thinking what fucking rash, does it look that bad?)

Then when i went to the dermatologist, i tell him i need an acne treatment. He goes ok why don't you go sit up on this table, cause i can't see your face clear enough here. So i sit up on the table. He looks at me with this concerned face and says "yeaaahhh, that's pretty bad" Then when he gives me the treatment he says ill give you 1 month, you come back here after, it should at least get "a little better by then"

I never get criticized for my acne, except for this one guy who LIKED me. And he told me that If you didn't have pimples, you'd be so much prettier.

Great.

I know that I would be prettier without zits. DUH!

the guy i had a crush on for a while was at hockey with a mutual friend. his team wanted to meet me, and he said "no, you don't. she's a zit faced freak." needless to say, the night i found out he said that, i cried myself to sleep. jerks.

reading some of these posts makes me realize how mean some people are. and how cruel and unfair it is to have acne. people like that, people who dont know what its like to look in the mirror and hate what they see, and to look at your skin for hours each night, spending hours and hours just wishing for clear skin, people like that are everywhere. and it hurts. so, so, so badly.

Amen to that girl. I'm sorry that had to happen to you, but just keep your head up high. That guy is an asshole for saying that. I know that I would handle it worse than you did if someone said that to me. You're so strong.

It really is unfair to have acne. I feel for all the people that have to suffer from acne, and they can't do anything about. I just wish people were more openminded and less judgemental.

Wow it seems like most of you have never experienced bad comments. I got acne for 2 years and in this period I have got more commens than people that got acne for 10+ years lol. Let's start with my family:

-father: (my acne's beginning) "don't use any topical medications, you may lighten your skin" Thanks dad now i have to use

-mother:"you are right your acne is really bad" (After a long contemplation of my face)

-brothers ( compilation of all meanest things tols by them)

- man what is all this acne on your face? ( hunh you used to have too dumbass)

- you look like a dinosaur ( actually was funny when my sister told him that he was the one that looked like a dinosaur)

- actually you are a playboy but this acne is diminishing it...( that was cool for more seductive's moral)

- wow that looks like pimples are having a conference of your forehead( hilarous...when you are not the one with the acne)

-Cousin: you look taller, darker but also uglier( when we last saw each other i was acnefree acnd now ... )

-litte cousin(5years): this is my favourite one lol. I was preparing to go party around midnight so I tried the best to fix my skin, it was a good job according to me. as i was openiong the door, my cousin asked me where i was going. I explained her and did you know what she told me? You should put something to cover all those zits otherwise people will laught at you. Actually my family was therre, and they were laughing crazy. :ninja:

Now comes my friends and the rest:

-(after proactiv ads): man why don't you order it, it's only 19$95 ( as if it was the price that matters to me)

- your face look like the second war's landmine fields( that was really elaborated, and actually the guy is so ugly that he can't have a g/f but he got a clean face)

-Man i can't stand to have pimples on my face, that feels dirty( hahah i love pimples  )

-lol i remember also the witch comparison with the cyst on your nose

- In an elevator full of fucking hot girls, a woman tells me:" do you know that oatmeal will fix this?"

Do you know that my punch could fix your mouth?

I got many others if you would like to hear you more just let me know. The only good thing is that i was a really cute boy before scne, so i am still appreciated by girls. Still, i feel the need to have clear skin because our personal appearance is the first thing eveyone sees first. Hah acne...

I read through like 20 pages of this thread and i want to hug every single one of you so badly!! NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS. I can't believe how insensitive, ignorant, cruel, and fucked up people can be. I hope that every single person who has ever said anything about your acne gets acne themselves, except a million times worse!!!!

Things i've noticed from this thread (lol i felt the need to summarize what i saw)

* Moms seem to be especially insensitive when it comes to acne

* For some reason, people like to point out that you have acne, when you KNOW you have it already

* Society feels it's acceptable to insult someone on their acne (which we have no control over) and at the same time feels it's NOT acceptable to insult someone on their weight (which people DO have control over.) WTF

HUGS HUGS HUGS!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Mom's are the worst! Mine would practically shout, in the middle of a restaurant: "I think that you're breaking out again! I need to make you an appointment with a dermatologist." People would stare- thanks a bunch, Mom!

My mom (from the otherside of the house): Whats on your face?

Me: Nothing mom

My mom: Is it one of those pimple things?

Me: Its nothing mom, leave me alone

My mom: I'm sure its a pimple. Wait... you had a pimple there before! Did you scar because of that?

Me: Yes mom, its nothing though

My mom: Wow, and I can even see it from here.

Do you think maybe some people will realize that their words can do tremendous damage? The parents making the comments anger me the most. The idea of providing a home with support and sensitivity to your child's problem must be absurd to them.

I peek in this thread once in a while, but I've read a large amount of posts and I feel embarrassed for the people who make these comments. I thought adults were supposed to be mature.

I think with most of the situations with parents, they're just clueless. I know my mom is. What really gets me are the stupid people that do it intentionally. When my acne was more severe (now I just suffer from a few pimples, mostly hyperpigmentation and patchy dry skin) in 8th grade, this kid told me that it looked like I had a mustache of zits. Thanks!

My mom's the worst, I'd say. She doesn't understand the whole 'hyperpigmentation is not permanent' idea. She thinks they're scars and will never go away. So, instead, I just walk around with a hood over my head at home. I don't need her comments - especially since she enjoys commenting when I 'thought' it was getting better.

She persists on getting me to a dermatologist (although I only have about three pimples) and continually asks "but don't you want to finally be pretty?"

Thanks Mom... thanks so much.
