I was sitting down stairs and i was talking to my dad, And he looked at me And said, "We need to get you more proactive." He turned back around and continued to talk to his friend on the phone and I just sat there for a minute. Tears started to stroll down my cheeks and i walked up to my room. I know he didnt mean to, But it hurt me. :[

Criticism hurts a whole lot worse when it comes from someone you love.

I was playing a game of Risk with some friends tonight and one of them began poking fun at my acne. "OMG! Lookit that!" "Lemme pop it!" I didn't do anything but pretend to laugh, shake my fist and tell him to get back to the game. But inside my gut was cold with rage. The others ignored it, or maybe didn't hear and I didn't want to make my skin even more of an issue by picking a fight over it.

It's a real pain because I've been so self conscious lately even though I've tried to get over it today. In fact I told myself I'd play with them to purposefully overcome my reservation, and this is what I get for it.

Only time someone has ever commented and I've heard it was at school and somehow thought that my acne was caused by a lack of washing. I told them they were retarted and ignored them, never really got any comments after that. I found that ignoring most of the bullies/douchebags didn't give them the thrill they were looking for and eventually just accepted that I wasn't a great target to pick on.

Bullies are easy to deal with if you know what to do.

That said family would be harder to deal with. My mum has pointed out my stained teeth(which are unstained thanks to the power of Hydrogen Peroxide!) and some scarring but nothing that bad.

After having my long hair cut short a regular customer at work says: "Oh he's good looking, all you need now is a wash and you will have all the girls after you."

Was about a year ago now, why couple a compliment with an insult?? Could of been worse I guess.

Ah, yes. The many times of a young and innocent child asking if you have chicken pox. Nice. So self-esteem boosting.

My little brother always takes the mick. But he's not exactly original. "Pizza face" and all that malarkey.

My dad calls me ugly and stuff. Even though he doesn't refer directly to my skin, i help but feel he means my skin.

I remember once, i was about 12 or 13. My mother showed me a picture of her when she was about my age. And i said to my father "Look how similar we look" and he said "Except she wasn't all spotty like you".

I felt so ugly and horrible and worthless and i just went up to my room and bawled.

Dumb people ask dumb questions, so I give dumb replies. You should do the same!

"Don't you wash your face?" - Nah, I don't have water at home and today isn't raining.

"Don't you use after shave?" - You should become a dermatologist, you are fully aware of the origins of acne!

"You shouldn't eat so much chocolate" - Why? Am I fat? "Because of your acne" - I didn't know that the side effect of chocolate was acne, thanks for letting me know!

my skin has been really clear for the last 2 or 3 years or so. but I remember when I was in like...7th grade. one of my guy friends or wutever, I had said something to him he didn't like. and he said "atleast I don't look like a chocolate chip cookie" [because I had a lot of dark spots left over from past pimples" lol

it hurt a lot but...I mean that never ever happens anymore. I [plus that guy has tried to flirt with me now] It all healed up and I get called pretty a lot now and people have told me I should model. But I feel so f*cked up lately I can't really see it.

Even though my skin is pretty much clear, I'm trying to get that flawless skin. >.< ugh it's hard. I've gotten there before but then another spot comes and I freak out all over again-like the past will repeat itself....I'm far from that though since I don't have my acne anymore just a minor breakout every month or so..but I have this nervous/small anxiety thing sooo...yeaa..

But I've been called pizza face before. lol that one didn't make me too happy either v.v

Hopefully never again......those days I felt so depressed from the name-calling

I had a pimple today, and this guy in my class, who's in-the-closet-but-not-really, wanted to pop it. He begged and begged but I wouldn't let him, but he snuck up when I wasn't looking and did. It was really embarrassing.

well i got a good one haha one day i was wearing one of those puffy dresses and this little boy pulled on my dress and asked how many children i had in my tummy and if he could touch my belly to feel the baby.

I'M NOT PREGNANT i wanted to deck the kid but he was cute. Then his mother came over and said 'oh honey shes not pregnant shes too young see, she still has some acne going on there haha'

So then i wanted to kill the mother and the child. I got soo annoyed cause then i was like damn......am i fat? But i decided im not since i weigh 45kg, but people need to stop just spilling out what they're thinking.

One time when i was working this old lady came up to me and said your so handsome you just need to clear your face up then she told me this wacked out story of how if you put oatmele on your face it would clear it up. She actually wasnt mean but i was just embarassed cuz my co workers were standing right there.

Oh my god! That exact thing happened to me when I was working except that it was an old man and not a lady. He even came back the next day and continued ranting about it.

When I was in junior high school, a kid told me I'd look much better if I put a bag over my head!! Nice body, ugly face:( At that time it was teenage acne.

I'm 55 yrs. old, still dealing w/acne, and it still bothered by it!! My acne has cleared up from time to time....until a few years ago. Now, it's hormonal, stress-related, menopausal, adult, cystic acne:( I was hoping someday I'd outgrow it!! I've spent thousands and thousands of $$$$$$$ on trying to keep it under control!!

I just dealt with an adverse reaction to either meds. or topical gel......my face was swollen, red, itchy, and irritated, my eyes were seeping and my eyelids were scaly, dry, red and irritated.......couldn't use make-up or anything until it healed up:(.......and i'm trying to look for a job!!

Comments like that are extremely hurtful, esp. when your self-esteem is low to begin with.

Thankfully none of my friends were assholes and none of the people I talked to were either back when my acne was really bad. Nobody has really said anything mean to me ever and I'm thankful for that. There's only been a few times when someone has mentioned my skin. One time my nose must have looked really oily and someone said "You need to put some powder or something on your nose, it's really shiny" and another time I must have been red from creams and someone asked me if I got too much sun the past weekend because my face was burnt.

several years ago, before I met my fiance I had this guy friend whoam I had a small crush on. The problem is although he was a friend and we did hang out he was a huge blunt asshole with no morals, he was an alcoholic, a drug addict, ect ect. Well one day I was out to dinner with him and another friend of mine when we got on the conversation about faces. At the time my acne wasnt really that bad and I actually though my skin had gone thru a major improvement. But the guy I had a crush on blurts out at the table at me "FACE IT YOU HAVE ACNE.......And its discusting." My heart hurt so bad. I just looked out the window away from my friend and my crush and I felt hot tears burning up in my eyes. He just went on and on about my uneven skin tone and how I should wash my face more. It was so embarassing. It was years ago when I was a teenager but those kinda things stay with you.

Needless to say I got over him and made new friends and am in a relationship now where my fiance thinks im beautiful no matter what :)

Well in an afterschool study session with mah science teacher, she asks her son (who is in 5th grade) "Why won't you pick up his pencil?" and the kid says "cause he has acne!" .................... Did not bother me that much.

Also today, I was hading out surveys on acne for my science fair project. I was talking to my teacher about it and a girl behind us says "Jean, should be your example." I felt so bad for this kid, I just wanted to turn around and layeth the smacketh downeth!!!!!

GEEZ, this is a long topic. Hahha.

But...yeah, the most common one I get is, "Hey, ever heard of ProActiv?" Uhm, yeah, thanks! Nice of you to try and give me useless advice on products I've already tried, kids. =/ I hateee the ProActiv comments - I mean, seriously, do people really believe it to be a miracle cure for everyone?

Other than that though it hasn't been too bad. Luckily I think people are fairly accepting of it in my area for some reason. Perhaps they laughed behind my back in middle school or the early years of high school, but I really don't see too much negative judgement over it nowadays, and my gorgeous, clear boyfriend is proof of that. (:

This person once shouted out "wow shit did your face get burned".

Another time this guy I have not seen in a while looked at my face and said to his friend "yea its got worse". It makes me feel really bad because it makes me feel all people care about is my acne.

Another person said to me "I want to shave your face to make it smooth"

This girl said to her friend "his face will never clear up"

My teacher having a long talk with me, telling not to pick my acne. I felt like suicide that day.

I hate when people randomly ask me "are you ok?"

Often when i walk to school I will meet these little girls and when they see me they would just scream and everybody would look.

That's awful. I've had similar experiences where I've been unbearably embarrassed and reduced to near tears (no I will not cry, NEVER). But at the same time my experiences often crack me up. The crap we go through can be so bad and so bizarre it becomes funny. Your pimples make little girls cry! I can see them standing at the corner with their pink backpacks and Barbie lunch boxes in their hands screaming as you approach, "mommy mommy, help me, the scary man's coming again." LOL, I know it must make you feel like shit but come on, that's too funny!! This is why I've never been suicidal about my acne and my scarring, as depressed as I get sometimes there's still something I find disturbingly funny about it.
