OMG I totally understand this. It's normal. I've honestly never found a good psychological way to deal with it. The best way I've found is to just stay as completely clear as possible.

If it's super bugging you, you can always look into CBT psychological therapy.

I used to have really bad acne and I finally got it under control!!! Unfortunately every time a small breakout happens in my head it looks like my whole face is covered. I have to try and calm myself down and tell myself it doesnt look like that.
