Doctors know that genetics play a large role in the pathology of acne vulgaris. If this is the case, we should be doing lots of studies to find out which genes they are. We should be able to figure this out. I mean we have the technology to sequence the entire human genome for chris sakes! After we know which genes cause it, then we can develop treatments to turn those genes off.

I know it plays and EXTREMELY strong role in my family. My last name is "Reid" its a direct scottish translation to "Red, ruddy complexion". All the males in my family extremely red faces and combos of acne, seb derm and rosacea. We were literally named because of our appearance haha

Its very fustrating that an exact link like you stated has not been found. I feel acne caused by a genetic disposition is much more difficult to concur just like many other genetic condition. How are you supposed to change it if you were born with it, its like trying to change your eye color =(

Who knows, it could be something as simple as our family having somekind of allergy to food that causes this, its just hard not having an answer.

To be honest I don't even know what a derm actually studies.

There are no CURES for acne, pigmentation, scars, dermititis, skin cancer, burns, marks, seborrhic dermititis, contact dermititis, atopic dermititis, rosacea, warts, verrucae, oily skin, dry skin...

I mean...it's almost as if they spent years simply learning if it's red, try this! and rake in the money.

Yes there is and if you actually believe that then I would suggest seeing another doctor that will help you see results. I've been with a doctor who was just in it for the money and to be honest he probably just made things worse, but once I switched to one who actually wanted to help I saw a big change.

I don't break out anymore, thank god! (cured) However I do still need to work on scarring and redness which is getting better each month with my treatment. My skin has never been so smooth thanks to my dermatologist.

You really think certified dermatologists would really go off wasting their time studying and practicing what they do? Of course not. I will admit their are some who aren't as good as others but you just have to find a doctor that is right for you to actually help you with any skin issues.
