Hi guys, just needed to vent this out. I've had normal skin all my life till this August when I turned 23. Went to the doctor to get it checked and was prescribed Doxycycline, Differin as a night cream, Mycin for day. I went into it immediately, thinking my acne was a small matter because I've never had it this obvious, not even through my puberty years. The Mycin was making me look greasily dirty in the day so I stopped it after the first week but continued religiously with the other two. Now nearing the end of 2013, and there's no improvements to my skin at all, none whatsoever! I still have ugly dark spots on my chin, right cheek and forehead and red, angry pimples on my left. I thought I could cope with it, but I really can't and need to just get this out.

Today, on my friend's recommendation, I went to get an Avene cleanser from the pharmacy and the assistant, who was very friendly, recommended my products that were all for acne, pimply skin, blemish-prone. I guess it was nice of her, but I felt hurt inside, especially when she recommended the normal ones to my friend who was with me, and said that she didn't need anything that she recommended to me because she didn't have pimply skin like me. Okay, it's the truth, but I never had to experience this before,

When I got home, I found out that my relatives were here. And my grandma, who is super concerned about my skin and never fails to remind me how bad it was, pointed out to my relative about my skin. God, I didn't need that.

Just, I was just clearing up my photos on the hard drive, and couldn't resist the urge to zoom in on the older photos. Makeupless or with makeup, all my photos prior to mid-august had me with clear complexion, maybe a few bumps here and there, but nothing too obvious. Hell, I never knew that my complexion was pretty good until now. And guess what, this made me even more depressed.

What if doxycycline and differin doesn't work? What else can I try? How long does it usually take for the results to show? I used to take photos of my face when I started the medication to check on the progress, but couldn't bear the sight to continue.

Bactrim DS works Miracles! It's just a sulfur based antibiotic, pretty strong so if your ance is moderate to severe I would highly recommend it!! My general Practitioner prescribed it for me too so you may not need to see a Derm! It starts working within a week or two and by about a month in clears you up almost completely. If you get to that point of desperation, I know the feeling, I would give it a try!

The only thing that has worked for me so far is drastically cleaning up my diet. Every cream or lotion was just a band aid for me. They would work for awhile but slowly the problem would persist. I am a firm believer that acne is caused by internal purposes for about 75% of the sufferers. Of course, there are always going to be the other 25% who just have acne prone skin, hormonal imbalances, genetics from parents and so on. Acne on the skin is just a manifestation of an internal crisis trying to show you that your organs and glands are clogged up from the ills you are consuming. May i ask what your diet currently consists of?

Doxycycline works, but, overtime, antibacterials can have adverse effects on your digestive system. If you think your acne is hormonal, you could try supplementing with saw palmetto. I would recommend a standardized extract with 85% to 95% fatty acids. I also agree with LuckyDory. Your diet can be very influential when it comes to acne, although this isn't always the case.

It might be helpful to let your friends and family know that you find their comments a little insensitive, too.
