Hi all,
I have battled acne, and JUST RECENTLY got clear (with calcium/magnesium and vit d3 + zinc). But, while I was battling it, and even now with my hyperpigmentation scars, people kept using this word proactive. I sometimes freeze up or act like it doesn't bother me. But it really does. I feel like people use it ON PURPOSE to remind me of that stupid acne commercial and stupid acne product. Almost like they are recommending something without saying it directly to my face.
I would hear it in school (I'm in college...) during classes, and even at job interviews/employers. "Proactive!" I'm just like.... REALLY? Stop.....
Anyone else? Trying to get rid of this word. People who have never suffered from acne don't realize how uncomfortable it makes me feel and how stupid they are to think a little product that is so hyped up will get rid of acne.
Am I the only one that feels like this? How do you handle someone saying proactive?
i hate it also. I get people just tell me you should try it . just because you see it in a commercial does not give u the right to tell me to use it. I hate that is advertised so much on tv and on the radio . i also hate it because i have tried it and yeah i have tried it not once but a couple of times ..last time i tried it i wanted to slap myself.
you get those people maybe you didn't try it long enough maybe you didn't use it right. every time they use that word i just want kill someone even if their not talking about the product. and every time i hear that word it also reminds me of my acne. i can be fine not even worried about my skin and i just hear that word and it makes me remember my skin problems .. : (
The product is spelt "Proactiv" and yes it got annoying hearing the word mentioned and suggested to me hundreds of times over the years. But you have to remember to hold your patience with people as they're likely not very informed about acne and are only trying to help despite coming across as silly and ignorant. You could tell them "Yes I have tried Proactiv, as with other over the counter products but my type of acne is a bit more severe which is why I am currently under the care of a board certified dermatologist. But I appreciate your suggestion".
Luckily I've never had anyone suggest this product to me because my acne bordered between mild and moderate. I do hold a little resentment toward the commercials, though. It makes me grin to think people believe that acne is as simple to control as those commercials make it seem. Just ignore the ignorance, and give thanks for the good intentions.
That is so insensitive. People are such jerks I swear. They know exactly what they are doing and feel like since they're indirectly saying it you can't say anything back, if I heard someone cracking up after a "proactive" remark I would have to put them in their place. Practive is overly priced CRAP, btw, I tried it and had a terrible reaction like many others.
