I am an adult dealing with acne. Even though the onset started in my teens, it has never gone away despite 3 full courses of accutane. i am also on the regimen going on 6 months and my acne is for the most part manageable. You are definitely not alone. Feel free to PM me if you need an ear
Is there anyone on acne.org that's dealing with adult acne? I started getting acne in my 30s. I am now 41 and can't believe I'm still dealing with pimples/acne. I just started the regime last night (11-6) and I can use advice from anyone who is dealing with adult acne.
A lot of women with adult acne find that the causes are largely hormonal. First the hormones from puberty that never really stop in adulthood, and then later the changing hormones of perimenopause and menopause. Sometimes even the birth control pills we take can inadvertently make it worse.
I hope you find something that works for you, but if you are interested in the details of the hormonal angle, I have some resources linked in my signature.
It has been 4 days since I've been doing the regime and I already see improvements!!!!! Yay!!! I have only been using about 4 pea size drops of the bp...I wanted to start out slowly which was emphasized on this site. There has not been too much dryness because I've been using the moisturizer with 10 drops of jojoba oil. I'm loving it so far
I am 26, and I have adult acne. I had it as a teenager, but it largely resolved itself into my early 20's. Last year I started breaking out all over my face and body. I started taking spiro, BC and topicals and the acne on my body and forehead have largely cleared up, but I continue to get acne on my chin (although less so now). The acne on my lower cheeks and on my cheekbones has become cystic. It is miserable, and most people either dont understand or don't feel comfortable talking about it. It can be especially depressing as an adult, because at least as a teenagerI had the hope of it clearing up as I got older, but as an adult - I feel like it will never go away
I do not know if my acne is hormonal, considering I have been on 125 mg of spiro for 6 months and birth control with very little progress. The side-effects of antibiotics are insane, and even MENTIONING using accutane makes people look at me like I'm crazy.
26 here! I've had acne since the age of 12. I have primarily comedonal and pustular/papular acne on my face and back. I've been on every acne medication known to man, and I'm starting Accutane December 3rd as a last resort. Green Gables is spot on about the hormonal treatments. Though they didn't work for me, they work for a lot of women.
turned 28 on oct still dealing with acne.. it sucks I guess . now im not sure if I will ever grow out off it .. keep waiting for a new cream or drug that might help
cure me. tried all the creams already . duac, differin, retin A .. and just my luck i'm allergic to antibiotics .. already tried Accutane and spirol. im out of ideas on how to clear my skin.
Thanks for the warning sasch83 😉 . I have been following the regime to the T. I'm pretty happy with the results so far. My 14 year old son even noticed how my skin is improving. I'm still dealing with the hyper pigmentation. But I bought the Physian Formula concealer stick and I'm very surprised that it covers up well and my skin isn't irritated.
So far so good:-)
Hope 27...don't give up just yet!!! I thought the same thing....that I'll just have acne forever. But now I have hope. My acne is slowly clearing up. Have you tried the regime yet....if so stick with it and don't give up hope.
Megtree I felt the same way....I just accepted the fact that I'll have acne forever. But I've been on the regime for almost a week and have noticed small changes. I have the kind of acne that hurts under my skin and they are flattening out and getting smaller. Are you on the regime?? Don't give up hope!!!

Good luck tomorrow! I finally took the plunge, and I'll be starting December 23rd.

I'm not on the regimin per se, I cant stand how BP treats my skin. Even if it IS technically helping the acne (although I honestly couldnt tell after being on it everyday for 8 months), it makes my skin so inflammed and red that it's not worth it to me. However, I do follow a VERY stringent, simple regimin every day.
