What Is It?
This treatment consists of injecting a chemotherapeutic drug directly into a raised scar, which helps reduce the size of the scar.
The two most commonly used chemotherapeutic agents are 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and bleomycin.
This procedure is normally repeated multiple times (4-16) in 2-week intervals. You should see gradual results with each session. After your last session, the treatment continues working. The appearance of the scar normally continues to improve over the coming year or longer. However, in some cases, scars may grow back after treatment.
