MY history w/fish oil tablets

Pros:

Works IF you take them for a long time
Clear, glowing skin
Good mood

Cons:

If you lower your dose or stop acne WILL return

In 2010 I had a massive breakout on my forehead and cheeks. So, off to the doctors I went who gave me Zineryt solution and Tetracycline (I think). The solution worked but the tablets I don't think had an effect. I finished my course with the tabs and instead I came off them not wanting to depend on acne tablets all my life and started taking fish oil tablets (after stalking this site and mostly positive reviews about it). At first I took 500mg and then slowly went higher to ~1000mg and took them religiously in the morning. It took around 4 months but after that I had the clearest skin I have ever had. So they definitely helped me clear my skin and stay clear for around 1.5-2years. I took them on and off I think. Can't remember exactly. HOWEVER, in 2012 I lowered my fish oil tab dose and decided to take a skin hair and nail tablets which was the worst decision I have ever made as after 4-5 months I had a MASSIVE breakout and experienced the most terrible and painful acne EVER. It cleared up after 3-4months and I had okay but spot prone skin. Now, 2013 I am still on my fish oil tabs but I am experiencing a horrible breakout, lower jaw, cheekbones and forehead areas. It sucks but I am now sticking to my fish oil tabs I now take 789mg every morning. Hopefully after 3-5 months I hope to see a change and reduction in my never ending cycle of acne. Sorry about the huge timeline. Just want to help someone if I can. BOTTOM LINE: If you find something works for you then "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Great for health.. but never found it to have an effect on my acne.

Pros:

Wonderful for health

Cons:

Expensive
Doesn't taste great

Very high in Vitamin A and Omega-3 chain fatty acids... which means it's wonderful for your health in moderation.. but I never found it to benefit breakouts.

Pros:

-good for your heart.
-great supplement for a good ,balanced diet.

Cons:

-did nothing for my skin.

Everyone knows fish oil is a healthy supplement to take but I think it's overrated if someone says it can help acne,or mabye it does help other's skin , not mine.

Pros:

Helps with inflammation and redness

Cons:

Fish burps, pills are very large and sometimes hard to swallow

I have taken fish oil for like 3 years - when my acne was more light / moderate, I felt this helped. However, I've developed more severe nodular acne and stopped taking fish oil as I need stronger meds. Bottom line: This will probably help your light acne and is worth trying, I don't think it's worth trying for Stage 3-4 acne.

Pros:

Makes skin softer
Improves Mood
Reduces Redness

Cons:

Can severly break you out if taken from poor quality sources.

Not knowing where to start with the fish oil, I simply bought a 5$ bottle from my local pharmacy. After only 3 days of taking it I broke out severly. Deep inflamed zits appeared rather than my [usual] small whiteheads. Deciding to go for a higher quality, I then bought a 16$ bottle and started it up again. Not only did my acne go back to normal, but it actually started clearing up a BIT. Most notabally it reduces redness. This product is in NO way a all over acne reducer. I would recommmend it for light acne sufferers as severe acne sufferers[as myself] may not notice drastic improvement. NOTE : Most omega 3 supplements come with omega 6's and 9's( not a good thing). Try to get the fish oilwhere omega 3's have been isolated as much as possible.

Pros:

Minimal health risks
Felt better

Cons:

Didn't do anything

I took 3 pills a day almost every day, and it didn't seem to do anything for my acne. It did nothing with my blackheads, and I couldn't really tell if it helped with my occasional inflammatory. I get a big inflamed almost every time before I get my period, and there was really no change in the time it took for the "period pimple" to heal, nor did it prevent any period pimples. I didn't notice a change in my oil production, either. Might work for some, but if blackheads are your main problem like for me, don't expect any changes.

Pros:

-Makes skin glow
-Helps keep hair shiny and healthy
-VERY good for your health
-Reduces itchy skin in winter

Cons:

-Didn't do much to clear MY acne
-Fish burps (yuck)

I've been taking 1000 mg super pill of Omega once a day for a couple of years now. I think it has helped give my skin a healthy glow, and my hair is definetely healhier, but I don't see a reduction in my acne. I don't know that there's enough scientific evidence to say it completely gets rid of acne, but it can't hurt to take Omega every day (unless you overdose or take a brand that has mercury or other chemicals in it). It helps the skin stay hydrated and repair itself, so it's good overall and a good thing to add to an anti-acne regimine and healthy lifestyle, but for me, it didn't clear my skin. Just make sure to buy a trusted brand that has pure pills and tests them.
