Acne.org’s Real World Take
Laser therapy works by harming skin oil glands. That can lead to some improvement in acne, and perhaps even long-term relief of some acne symptoms. However, evolution gave us skin oil glands for a reason and what happens long term when you permanently disable them is still unknown. Proceed with caution.

Pros:

My face looks so much better and my pores are smaller

Cons:

Much more painful then I was expecting. Also the bleeing I did not expect

I got the profractional laser treatment and micro laser peel done a week ago. It was more painful then I thought and I looked messed up for the first 3 days. Its been a week and I look normal again with only a few red areas. My pores are much smaller and my skin is smoother. The Dr. said I should see improvement for the next several months. So far I am very pleased with this procedure and would recommend it to others.

Pros:

worked amazingly well. had perfecr clear skin afterwards

Cons:

expensive. £170 a session
its doesnt clear acne forever. you need follow up sessions

I had spots since i was about 14 and nothing i used got rid of them. i have tried lotions, potions, tablets. everything! then in 2006 i had enough. i was working as a air hostess and i was feeling very self consious about my skin so i decided to do something about it. i heard of n-lite and decided to give it a go. the results were amazing. for the first time ever after 3 sessions i would go out without make-up on, something i had never done before. the downside is the expense, and it doesnt last for ever. 2 years later i am going back again. in these 2 years i used proactiv which worked so well but unfortuantly brought me up in a rash on my face so i stopped using that and now have awful spots again so im going back to n-lite! i would recomend it to everyone as it does work.

Pros:

COMPLETELY cleared my horrible embarrassing adult onset cystic acne, evened out my ice pick scars, made my skin much less oily, I no longer look greasy in pictures, and it significantly shrunk my pores. It's been 6 months!

Cons:

Expensive. $300 per treatment, and I needed 4 treatments.
but who cares, having to use proactiv, duac, benzaclin, tetracyclin, benzoyl peroxide etc... for the rest of my life (and none of those worked anyway) would have cost plenty more.

Use the prescription numbing cream they provide you, let it soak into your face for 30 minutes before you rinse and the treatments are painless. The laser just feels like sand blowing against you if you use the numbing cream right. After the treatment, slather on a lot of cortisone cream! After the 1st treatment, i didn't really notice any difference in breakouts, but my pores looked smaller. After my second treatment, my face looked about 50% better. Still some pimples, but about half of what i usually got. My pores also became much smaller. After my 3rd treatment, i think maybe i got 1 pimple in that month. my face was so smooth i couldn't stop touching my skin and even that didn't give me any zits. I haven't had any pimples at all since my 4th treatment. I LOVE my results I am so happy and would highly recommend it. It does not claim to do anything for red marks, you need another laser to do that, or let them go away on their own. The only thing i do now is wash my face once

Pros:

Very good results

Cons:

No cons

I can strongly recommended NLite as it cured my acne. It got worse before it got better as expected, but the final results were excellent. I had my treatment at The Private Clinic, Harley Street. The nurse was very professional.

Pros:

Doesn't dry out the skin like most other acne treatments, in fact it makes it look nice

Cons:

A bit red the day after treatment

I did some research on acne treatments and discovered N-Lite. I went to The Private Clinic on Harley Street for my treatment ( The nurses were lovely!) and it was excellent, at first I was a bit red and doubted whether it was going to acheive the results I expected. But after my 3rd session not only myself but everyone else noticed the huge improvement in the skin, I now no longer Have to wear thick foundation and it feels great. I highly recommend this treatment.

Pros:

It does work

Cons:

Brings everything out initially
Slightly expensive but so worth it

My experience with NLite was fantastic. I had 3 treatments spread out over 3 months. The first treatment did bring spots out, but by the 2nd treatment they were starting to clear up. I had the 2nd treatment and in a week my skin was cleared. By the 3rd treatment my skin was still spotless and it has been ever since. I know would much rather go through one period of spots, then have them constantly! I think this treatment is definitely worth trying. I read reviews and some of the bad ones really put me off and i was nervous about going ahead. i am so glad that i did. i asked the person treating me why there might negative reviews and she pointed out that people who have had problems have been quite dark skinned and the laser can react differently on dark skin. i thought that was worthwhile pointing out if you too are reading bad reviews and getting put off. i would definitely recommend this treatment.

Pros:

helps to reduce the number of breakouts, eliminate red marks and held your skin become permantly clearer.

Cons:

may be considered pricy for some people.

I went to the skin health spar in london for this treatment after seeing it advertised in numerous places. I was intrigued as it claimed to be as effective as antibiotics and would take a fraction of the time for you to get clear skin. I must say that the laser is wonderful; if you do get this done, then go to the skin health spar, as the nurses are all wonderful and very competent with applying the treatment. It takes about 4 treatment to see results, spread over a period of 16wks (4wks in between each treatment). I have heard some people suffered bruising after the laser, but I experienced none of these side-effects; apparently because I have fair skin and blonde hair which the laser was designed for. So I would definitely recomment giving this a shot- I wish I had taken the treatment earlier on, but just glad I did it.

I had a 5 treatments at The Private Clinic and I started to see great results after my third treatment. The redness that I had after second treatment is now gone completely. I agree with many other postings here that it takes a few treatments to see improvements, and that it gets worse before it gets better. The nurse was lovely and very professional. Thanks

Pros:

Got rid of my Acne

Cons:

Small bruising that completely disappeared after a few days

Last week I had my last N-Lite treatment at The Private Clinic in London. N-Lite completely cleared my acne, and there is no scars or redness. I just can't believe the difference it has made. After my second/third treatment I've noticed immediate improvements.

Pros:

It works

Cons:

No cons, just some redness initially that disappeared after a few days.

Fantastic results. I've wasted so much time and money trying and buying many products (some as much as 20 pounds at time) that claimed to get rid of Acne. With N-Lite my Acne has disappeared and my life has totally changed. I had my treatments at the Private Clinic in London. Very professional.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
