A more dangerous way of using benzoyl peroxide that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. However, when used properly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin without the addition of antibiotics.

Pros:

Clears up back acne fast! Cheap since covered by health insurance:)

Cons:

your body gets used to it after a while

Works but not a good long term solution

Pros:

- clears me up
- health insurance covers it so it costs nothing
- nice spot treatment or all-over when breaking out

Cons:

- drying
- texture is on the gooey side
- must use frequently to see results

more pros than cons overall. wish the texture was nicer and didnt give a white-ish paste look so i'd be inclined to use it during the day with make-up. clears me up without costing tons of money. happy overall. should probably use it on a regular basis to keep the breakouts on the downlow

Pros:

My acne has cleared tremendously, with very few and minor remaining zits, due to this product. I used 2.5% BP before, but I had to stop because it was incredibly expensive for such a small bottle.

Cons:

-product dries out skin a bit so a moisturizer is recommended
-product can bleach clothes and hair

Since I live in Canada and therefore can get this product with a prescription for only $11, the product is definitely well worth it. It has worked well and consistently for the 9 months I've used it, with absolutely no down time or skin irritation. I highly recommend it.

Pros:

- clears up acne fast
- helps prevent acne from forming

Cons:

- dries up skin
- skin peeling
- inching, might experience purging with lots of white heads when first used

give this a try anyways, it worked wonders for me after the purging period. It's the most effective treatment I have used so far.

Pros:

Excellent product. I have been using it for about 2.5 years now and my skin is clear, just a few blemishes with stress and pms. As long as I apply it regularly, all is well.

Cons:

The bleach DOES ruin towels and pillow cases, so make sure your face towel is one you don't mind having bleach stains all over it.

Strongly recommended!! Saved my face.

Pros:

It does clear up acne fast, if you put it on a single zit, it will be gone in 2 days or so. It clears up acne and makes lightens up scars.

Cons:

If you use too much you are going to start getting very very dry skin. Only put a small amount.

This is a great product I highly recommend it. I use it every night and wake up with better skin than I had before. I think you should only put a small amount or at least wait until it's dry for people who are getting their fabrics dyed.

Pros:

The acne goes away in a number of days, but be sure to use it every night.

Cons:

Once applied, it makes your skin dry, but that's the reason for why it works.

My family doctor recommended this cream for me, and I've still been using it to this day. It'll work if you use it every night before you sleep. Just be sure to wash your face in the morning and apply moisturizer afterwards, so your skin won't be dry during the day. It is definitely worth it.

Pros:

It seems to be clearing up my skin a little bit , but I've only been using it for 2 days. Hoepfully it will continue to clear it up!

Cons:

I'm a little nervous when I read other people's comments on the setbacks such as more breakouts and rashes when you go off it. I'm hoping that doesn't happen but think it might. I also am experiencing SLIGHT dryness but not much.

I'm using this at night with Differin in the morning and Doxycycline as well and I'm hoping that I see some difference. It seems like acne isnt really something that can be cleared up, because everyone suffers some sort of withdrawal after stopping these medications. I hope that if anything Clindoxyl will clear the little minor breakouts and I can stop wearing makeup which will help.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
