A more dangerous way of using benzoyl peroxide that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. However, when used properly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin without the addition of antibiotics.

Was WAY to harsh on my skin, but I could see how it would be effective for some people.

Pros:

Clears acne
Comes in gel form

Cons:

Expensive
VERY irritating

This product burned by skin.. Although I could have weaned into using the product better then I did at the time. I could see how this would be very effective for some people.. but it was just not the product for me.

Acanya works!
Acanya has worked wonderfully! I have been using Acanya for about two years and only one bottle lasts me 6 months!! It only takes a couple weeks to work and at first dries out your skin, but after the first month I noticed such an improvement!! I've had moderate to severe acne for a while now, and with Acanya all of it cleared up on my forehead, nose and chin, and with only one or two stubborn ones left on my cheeks every so often. I recently just ran out of my bottle and haven't had time to refill and am dying to get to the pharmacist! I use very expensive facewashes and nothing has compared. Plus if you get their coupon card on their website it is very affordable-especially for lasting me 6 months!!

Pros:

Works fast, gets rid of the deep acne, clears black heads

Cons:

face broke out at first from using (but that is any new product)

Started using this a week ago today, I already see results, I have not had the cystic acne that i was suffering from and on my cheeks i had red scaring that is now gone and i had a ton of black heads on my chin that are gone, just from one week! i have tried everything! i am very impressed with this product and recommend it. Not everything works for everyone though, I found that out the hard way of trying everything I saw on tv or heard from people. Try this, can't hurt.

Pros:

- Temporary bleaches skin
- Slightly helped getting rid of acne

Cons:

- Expensive
- Caused patches of redness
- Itchiness & burning sensation
- Dryness

This product, at first, made my skin feel itchy/dry and even gave me a burning sensation in the area of application. With time, it also created red patches on my skin. In the end, it only made my skin look & feel worst.

Pros:

Quick results (takes 3-4 days before you really start noticing a difference)
Does a good job of removing acne

Cons:

I heard once you stop using it acne comes back..haven't experienced this because ive only been using it for about 4-5 days!
annoying to apply every night but well worth it

Good results , fast results and side affects arent too bad but if what they say about acne coming back once you discontinue use is true maybe its not a permanent fix? I also wonder what it will do to my kin in the long run.

Pros:

The good thing with this acne cream is that it slowly helps reduce your acne.

Cons:

Using it around your eyes can cause really bad burns and redness. My skin gets really red, especially in the mornings, after i wash it off

I haven't used it long enough to determine whether its worth the price, however it seems to be working a bit. Make sure you dont apply it near the eyes and dont use any other acne medication with it.

Pros:

actually works
see improvement within days

Cons:

dries skin out
bleaches clothes

The first product that has actually worked for me..i bought into that whole proactive crap and it was just a total waist of money and just made my acne worse. Clindoxyl gel is AMAZING, you have to give it a shot ..ask your physician and remember to follow the instructions properly. I use the whole biotherm system (the purple bottle) in the morning and at night i was my face with warm water using the biotherm cleanser..pat dry..and apply the cream not only on the pimple or whitehead or whatever it is - but to the whole area. I swear by this product and you should give it a shot.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
