Pros:

none

Cons:

made me feel sick, gave me weird period issues, didn't work

i was so hoping this would be a miracle product after reading some of these reviews. Sigh! I found that even when I took 50 mgs of zinc with a meal it made my stomach feel sick. I didn't throw up but I didn't feel good. I put up with this though, clear skin is too important for me. Then I started getting my period every two weeks & spotting (not good!). I wasn't doing anything different, so I know it had to be the zinc. I noticed no difference in my acne while taking zinc, but then I didn't use any fancy zinc that some of the other reviewers recommend, just a generic brand.

Pros:

I used chelated zinc - 50 mg per day for about 1 month. Worked within 2 3 days. Less oiliness. Very few cystic pimples.

Cons:

I developed a severe rash which may be related to change in bowel movement??I think the high dosage of zinc had caused this so now I have stopped taking it all together to see what happens with this rash.

I recommend this only if it has no other side effects like the brutal rash I developed somewhere I never thought I could have!

Pros:

works wonders

Cons:

must take with food

I can't believe how great my skin is ever since I started taking zinc. I have suffered from acne for almost 30 years, at times it's been mild and at times much worse. Have seen several different dermatologists over the years but nothing has helped completely and it always comes back. I'm still skeptical if the zinc will continue to work long term, but so far it's incredible! I haven't gotten one new pimple since starting taking it and my skin is a lot less oily. The appearance is so clear! I just took my 13 yr old daughter, who has dry skin acne, to her first derm appointment and she was put on antibiotics, but if that doesn't work for her I'm going to start her on zinc! I haven't experienced any stomach aches while taking it, but I always take it with food (50 mg/day).

Pros:

stops/reduces oil production. Gives skin a dry yet vibrant feel. Restores Confidence.

Cons:

None. See below.

I cannot stress enough the importance of obtaining the "URL" Brand of Zinc 50mg. Its zinc sulfate and its way easier on the stomach. I am a pharmacist, trust me, and not google/forums. Its in powder/encapsulated form, so in a sense its time released. The NDC code is 00677-0622-01 I have normal/fair skin and usually got 3-4 pimples a month. Now I get none. ALSO!!!!Here is my regimen. I am crystal clear now. Purpose Soap-Dans BP-Aloe Vera Gel. 2x/day 50 mg zinc capsules- 3 times a day Alpha Lipoic Acid 300mg-2x a day.

Pros:

no prescription, readily available, only thing that has worked for me in 15 years!

Cons:

Only that I didn't take this 15 years ago! No upset stomach with optizinc--take it without food so there is no competition for absorption

Yes, I'm 36 years old and had my first experience with acne about 15 years ago! Since then, I've tried everything under the sun but Accutane, which I refuse to try. As some others have said, most products work for me in the first month or so, but then things go from bad to worse again. I've tried Proactiv, Obagi, Murad, Dermalogica, three different forms of tetracycline, erithromycin, blue light, dry ice, microdermabrasion, and more. I've been taking 30 mg of optizinc twice a day for about two months and I can tell this is working and will continue to work. I don't feel the pressure, the pain, the impending doom underneath my skin that I usually do. I did not break out before or during my period--that's a miracle! I will drop down to only 30 mg a day soon and post again after about a month of that. One thing to add--about 1 month after starting the zinc, I also changed all of my skin care products and makeup to Shaklee products. Get them at [link removed]

Pros:

Heals much quicker than other products and is cheap.

Cons:

Take on a full stomach or you will feel sick.

The older I get, the more my face seems to break out and I just turned 42. I started taking the zinc 9/23 in the evening 50mg-at that time, my face was broken out more than usual and seemed to be getting worse. After a couple days, I noticed that the ones I had started to go away quicker than normal-impressed so far. Went and bought some zinc oxide creme to put on the blemishes to also help. So after a week, I only have one blemish and I had about 10 last week. My face seems brighter and more smooth. I will post again because the products I have used in the past and I have used a bunch, they all work well for a few weeks then back to the same problem-it's like my face gets used to it. I have never found a product that lasted longer than mth and I have tried: Obagi, Retin A, Neutregena, Proactive, Murad, Glycolic lotion, Natures Cure, Oxy, Clean & Clear, Stridex, Clearasil and I'm sure I'm leaving out a few more. So we'll see.

Pros:

Reduces severity of acne, acne heals much more quickly.

Cons:

Doesn't fully clear acne

Its cheap, and helps to reduce the severity of my acne, and I have found that it helps to heal the acne on my face much more quickly. However it never really cleared my acne fully, but I still think its worth trying.

Pros:

None that I noticed.

Cons:

Didn't notice any improvement while taking it.

Long term dosage of 50mg per day can cause excessive hair loss. (2 months in my case!)

I started taking this in Gluconate form but never saw any benefit from it. I was also supplementing on Green Tea (2 cups per day) which I found out was actually making my skin WORSE. After stopping Green Tea I continued taking Zinc but I still had no improvement and suspected all of these supplements were making things worse. Also, 50mg can still be considered a high dose and after at least 2 months of high doses of Zinc you may experience rapid hair loss! I had to stop taking this and actually found my skin improved. I'm not clear right now but Zinc is useless for me. I believe my acne is pretty much fructose induced.
