Paired with vitamin A, it's amazing for oily skin
Paired with vitamin A, it works wonders for oily skin. I started with 800 iu a day but now I take 2000 iu with 10 000 iu vitamin A. My skin used to be so shiny just an hour after washing my face but this has made it more manageable. Also helps with acne but definitely not a cure all. I do take other supplements which collectively have all helped my skin.

Caused worst breakout ever

Cons:

Caused terrible breakouts that occur permanently now
I broke out where I never had before - arms, legs, forehead, etc.

I took vitamin d 1000mg daily on 2 occasions. The first time I took it for 2 weeks. I thought that vitamin d was the miracle cure as my skin looked fantastic. However, during the 2 weeks I noticed little bumps all over my arms- sore pimples. But my face had never looked better. BUT towards the end of the second week I had THE WORST BREAKOUT IN MY LIFE!!! My face was destroyed and I couldn't leave my room for 2 days!! I thought it was because of an interaction with the omega 3 fish oil I started taking at the beginning of the second week so I stopped both. I thought the first incident was a fluke so I (stupidly) tried it again without the fish oil this time. It took about 2 weeks for me to see an improvement in my face this time but I had very clear skin on my face for 2 weeks after that. I had lots of pimples of my legs and arms during this time. After the 4 weeks of using vitamin d, I broke out terribly again. But vitamin d is stored in the body so I have been breaking out for 2 weeks every month for the last 3 months. And it seems to be associated with my menstrual cycle. Prior to taking vitamin d, I never had bad breakouts and my acne wasn't influenced by my cycle- but random spots. It would appear that vitamin d had some interaction with oestrogen or progesterone and I can now pinpoint the day when I will start to breakout and the day my skin will get better each month. I just wish I hadn't taken it the second time round as I don't know if these terrible breakouts every two weeks are going to be permanent :(

it is because you took fish oil! fish liver oil does not cause breakouts and is the only supplement that should be taken for acne because fish oil clogs pores

Supplement cautiously
I'm thinking of trying D3 supplementation for a third time. The first time made my skin worse which I thought could be attributed to a sensitivity to lanolin. The second time I took vegan d3 and supplemented with magnesium as I didn't want my calcium levels to soar. This also made my skin worse which may have been from the magnesium because I have read some testimonials of acne sufferers who wrote that magnesium had the opposite of the desired effect for acne. I also once supplemented with magnesium on its own and it broke me out horribly. The interesting thing with vitamin d is that it increases igf1 which is supposed to be horrible for acne. How does that work?

works
Alright, it has been a week I started to take vitamin D3 (5000iu daily) and my skin looks nothing like before, it's so smooth and there is less and less acne (the skin is peeling of) with every day! I have hormonal acne that I take Vitex for (low progesterone), that works great, but only in summer ðŸ¤". I finally put two and two together, yes, it is the vitamin D deficiency I was diagnosed with a year ago! I also found out some informations about progesterone being related to vitamin D and that if you're on progesterone cure, deficiency of vitamin D can decrease it's efficiency. Fingers crossed that it sticks!

Use the tablets not the gelcaps!
Had mild to moderate acne my entire life. At 50 I was fed up and tried Epiduo which helped but did not eliminate my acne. Heard about Vitamin D - and tried the 400 "gel" pills. No results, in fact it seemed to aggravate my acne. My doctor told me my levels of vitamin D were very low so I decided to try it again - purchasing the nature made vitamin d 400 NON GEL tablets and taking two pills per day. Wow! The change in my skin over the next two weeks was nothing short of a miracle. I now have only the random pimple every now and then. I highly recommend trying this out for your acne - the tablets, not the gel pills!

1 week in - still new pimples

Been taking 5000Ui daily for the last week along with K3, Vitamin A, and Magnesium supplements (all daily). I think it helps the active acne calm down faster, but I'm still getting new pimples, although my skin seems drier. I'll keep using for a month to see if it does anything more but so far it's not the holy grail/cure all for me. It's disappointing as I'm 26 and have had steady acne since I was 12. Tried everything (accutane, spend hundreds of $$ on skin care products, moisturisers, chemical peels) but seen very little results; I always have at least one pimple on my face. Vitamin D made sense to me as I rarely see the sun. Overall my skin looks brighter and healthier, but like I said I still get new pimples.

I haven't experienced any great mood changes, but it's still early. I'll update in a month.

3 week update: I definitely feel like Vitamin D is working for my skin. I've had 1 or 2 pimples over the last month but it's very much under control, and I think this supplement combination is the most consistent treatment for my acne since I was on accutane years ago.

In terms of mood/energy etc I don't actually notice much. If anything I feel like I'm way more lethargic and drained of energy since taking these vitamins. I'll update in a few weeks.

OK had a massive breakout - 10 new pimples, but I think it was some new product I introduced to get rid of red marks/PIE. Lesson learned :(

Saw AMAZING results after 5 days!!!
I am a 21 year old male who has suffered severe acne since 14. I have very pale skin that has a tendency to get extremely red when I breakout. It is also very oily to the point that friends/family have asked if I'm sweating. It is so embarrassing. I have tried every cleanser, toner, moisturizer, combo regimen imaginable. I have been on multiple antibiotics and accutane (TWICE) all of which were destroying my body with nasty side effects. Some things worked a little bit, however, nothing made a major difference. After taking accutane my acne returned within 9-12 months. Since getting a bit older I've decided to cut out dairy as best as I can. I also eat generally healthy. I do monthly facials at a med spa. All of these things made a big difference (proper diet and facials are major for maintenance!) The REAL miracle has been Vitamin D3!!! I have been taking 6,000 IU daily for 7 days and I have only 1 active pimple (and it's TINY.) I'm also taking the white tablets instead of the gels. I read that they absorb easier... I'm not sure if that's true but it's working for me! I have never seen results like this THIS FAST. Exactly one week ago my face was greasy and destroyed by zits. I'm still in shock how calm my face, chest, and back looks! I have NO redness or embarrassing pimples. It is still crazy to wake up and not see a new whitehead. Give this a try ASAP. What do you have to lose??? Nothing. I love feeling this level of confidence. Just make sure you also are eating a proper diet. After a few weeks I also recommend getting your blood tested to make sure your Vitamin D levels don't get too high. Good luck!!!

I don't know
Hello. I have done research for vitamin D levels because I have had a problem with acne for over a dozen years and every year in the summer season my skin is without pimples, smooth. My result is 13.7 ng / ml very low ... I decided and bought in the herbal store vitamin D3 5000 UI from Dr. Brest + K2 from NOW. After 3 days, my acne got worse ... I got more inflammatory and papulous changes :( I am broken ... is this sheep wool lanolin so responsive? I need to supplement this deficiency but I do not know what product ... changes are painful and itchy .. Now I read that maybe it is some allergy to the ingredients in capsules? Will vegan vitamin D3 from Lichen be better? Or maybe instead of capsules, switch to dry tablets? Please help :(
