Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

I found it very effective. Its antiseptic qualities helps fight against breakouts and acne.

Cons:

Strong smell, but you get used to it quickly. It may burn when applied.

I had very bad acne for a while, To the point where I was ashamed of it, my cousin recommended tea tree oil, so I went to my local Vitamin Shoppe and picked up a bottle and face wash. Within a month, My acne 80% of my acne disappeared, using the face wash along with the oil at night proved (to me) extremely effective. I am still using it, to hopefully finish off whatever is left.

Pros:

Works GREAT, dries out pimple, clears up in about 12-18 hours.

Cons:

If it's not mixed with toner or astringent; it may burn, strong smell

It works amazing. Buy a bottle and use a drop (mixed with astringent or toner) and put on pimples.

Pros:

Doesn't peel/burn skin, works fast.

Cons:

The smell is strong at first but you get used to it after a while.

I have a lot of red marks so I decided to try this. I've been using it for the past 3 nights and the redness is going down, it's amazing. I wet a cotton ball with water, squeeze excess water out. Put a couple of drops of TTO on it then put another drop of water(I'm scared of my skin peeling!) It is not too much water. It works just great. Then I put it all over my face three times before I go to bed and voila! Skin is beautiful in the morning.

Pros:

Reduces inflammation fast.

Cons:

If used at the wrong time in the pimples "life" it can make it worse.

(This is for the 100%) Tea tree oil I've found is a bit tricky. You have to apply it when the pimple is at it's absolute worst. If you apply it too early or while it's going down, it gets irritated. I'm not saying this applies to everyone, because everyone reaccts to things differently. I'm just putting that out there ;-) Other than that, tea tree oil can be used for many things as my mother found and now she uses it more than I do for fading skin spots.

Pros:

I think it was this that worked miracles to end 15 years of moderate (mid-menstrual cycle) acne. And it's natural!

Cons:

I wouldn't recommend using it full strength. The smell is strong, but I don't mind.

I started Dan's regimen a couple of months ago, but instead of BENZOYL PEROXIDE substituted TEA TREE OIL. I used the already diluted Desert Essence "Kinder to Skin". (I chose Cetaphil liquid cleanser and Oil of Olay moisturizer.) I also started taking vitamins at the same time (multi + 50mg of B6 and Zinc). It took almost 2 months of SLOW but steady improvement. Now my skin is really clearing up. I honestly can hardly believe this day has come.

Not for everyone!
It may work for some people BUT IT DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE. Dabbed it on my pimples night after night, it did not worsen them, but showed absolutely no signs of healing. Doesn't work for everyone's skin.

Sadly doesn't work for me
It's a magic potion, based on its characteristics it do wonders for acne strugglers. For me, unfortunately, it didn't. I broke out massively on the spots I used this. It's either because it was a bit too aggressive but I think I have a sort of allergic reaction from it.

My perfected skincare routine:
For the past 5 years, I could not find anything that would make the horrible large dark marks and acne under my cheeks go away (reason I got these was b/c of really bad quality makeup in highschool). I tried retin-A and prescription meds, and although retin-a helped a bit, it was really annoying to deal with. 3 weeks in my skin looks fabulous, most of the spots have faded. I have seen the most dramatic results when adding tea tree oil and the Clinique product. Here is my routine that really I finally perfected, and I would not be able to live without: 1. remove all makeup/dirt with makeup remover 2. cleanse with The Body Shop Chamomilie Silky Cleansing Oil. This stuff is amazing, doesnt dry out your face and makes it so soft. 3. Exfoliate with Boire and Clarisonic, or shave your face. 4. Thorough cleanse with Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser. Charcoal is the bomb, I regularily use all of their charcoal products. - optional: use an aloe vera or rose oil toner 5. Benzoyl Peroxide 6. 100% Tea Tree Oil 7. Clinique dark spot corrector - optional: eye cream 8. Any moisturizer (I actually use Aveeno body moisturizer) - but preferrably with spf for the daytime.

Great for under make up
I love this stuff because I can wear it under my make up and there is no cakey residue. My skin is sensitive so I usually dilute it with water before applying
