Pros:

No acne- cleared up skin
Very light periods or none at all (Great)
Birth Control
Originally I had better moods

Cons:

Ovarian Cysts
Breast Lumps
Sore and tender breasts just before ovulation and during
Weight Gain- phenominal
Period pains have changed - now more so in back than abdominal

I first started this pill at the age of fourteen to combat my severe acne, my very uncontrollable mood swings and irregular periods (I was only having a break of two weeks between each period, each period was lasting up to 14 days with majority of heavy bleeding). This pill was absolutely perfect. By 19 my skin was clear, my cycle was regular and my mood swings were under control. My period was down to 5 days with one 1-2 heavy days- It was GREAT!!! I took a break for a year and ended up with severe stomach pains which were from Ovarian Cysts. My doctor said it was from being on the pill and then stopping. I also got my first breast lump when I first started taking the pill, and ended up with two by that stage. i was advised to go back on the pill, and had an operation for endometriosis which my gynaecologist though I also had- and I did (due to my really heavy periods as a teenager). After going back on the pill and having the operation it has thrown my whole hormones out of sync. I now get blemishes every month, now getting bad pains, no periods at all most of the time. I have gone up over 4 dress sizes and can't lose the weight, have no sex drive, no emotions (not even happy) and my breast lumps are now up to about 12 in each breast.

Worst decision of my life!

Cons:

Caused severe cystic acne
Extremely painful periods
Rapid weight gain

I'm a 21 year old female, but I took a generic Diane-35 (Cyestra-35) when I was 18. I had always had a bit of acne in high school, but when I went on this birth control pill it ruined my life. I began taking it in July 2011 and stopped taking it in November 2011. After a month of taking it, my acne went into serious overdrive. My face was COVERED in painful cysts and closed comedones, and I would get a few new ones every single day. My periods were agony, and I would get extremely painful cramps and would have HEAVY periods that would last 7 days. My face also produced what felt like gallons of oil. I also gained 30 pounds which fortunately were easy to drop once I stopped taking the pill, but the acne continued to be severe for the next year after stopping. The worst of it was the psychological hell I went through, crying everyday over cystic acne that grew exponentially every single day. From what my dermatologists have told me, my case is a rare one. This pill seems to work for many, but it messed up my hormones so bad that even today in 2014 I'm still trying to correct the damage. Please be careful of what medications and birth control pills you decide to take, and make sure you always do thorough research.

Pros:

I was very hesitant to start taking the pill, as I don't think artificial hormones are good. However, over a period of about 2 years, I developed hormonal acne and also noticed excess hair where I'd never had hair before (eg upper lip, chin, chest). The acne, which was on my chin and around my mouth, was very upsetting. I have very fair skin and it was scarring. I've taken this pill for about 5 months. It took a while to start working, but for the past 2 months I've had perfectly clear skin.

Cons:

It didn't do much for the excess hair, but at least I haven't had an increase. I've had no side effects at all BUT I've just heard that France has started investigations into deaths possibly caused by this pill, which is concerning, so I might move onto a different pill after the next cycle.

Definitely works, and for me had no side-effects. Life with clear skin is amazing! However, because of recent investigations, I may have to consider another pill.

Pros:

clear skin, went up one cup size, regular periods

Cons:

....

Great product!!! strongly recommend! I have been on it for 2 months and am just starting into my third! My skin has cleared up substantially since beginning diane 35. I use it in conjunction with proactiv and clindamyacin. Before that I was just using proactiv and it didn't work at all by itself!! I have been on accutane once and the acne came back, though not as bad as before. I am getting the same results from diane i got from accutane w/o the awful risks and side effects of roaccutane. Alot of acne in women is hormonal so if nothing else has worked (i've been there) then give this a try! The only thing i'm worried about is the acne coming back if i stop using it as i will, at some point in the future, like to have children???

Diane 35 Experience - 10 years
Hi there I am now on Diane 35 for the second time. I honestly regret ever coming off it! I had been on Diane for around 10 years. I was prescribed it for my moderate acne as a teenager (16-17years old) It cleared my skin right up but it did take a very long time. I would say 6-12 months before it was completely clear and under control. I very rarely suffered from breakouts after being on Diane. I maybe got 1-2 pimples occasionally. But my skincare was not amazing and I did wear cheap makeup. Diane is a life changer! However, after 10 years it wasn't working for me anymore, I started to get breakthrough bleeding and then regular pimples. 1-2 cystic ones every month, which was not normal for me. I decided to give my body a break and came off the pill completely for almost 2 months. My skin went ballistic around the 6 week mark! Pimples everywhere, my back and my chest were the worst and I also had breakouts on my face. Not to mention the other side effects from coming off the pill - nausea, cramps, headaches, loss of appetite and mood swings. I know that so many women have amazing experiences once coming off the pill and say they feel like "their 15 year old self again" but honestly it was the opposite for me. So, I decided to go back on it and it was fine for a while, until the breakthrough bleeding started again, about 3 months in. I ended swapping pills and was on Norimin for around 4 months and it was good, was also meant to clear skin due to its estrogen content. After the 4 month mark my skin went crazy, again! So I rushed back to the doctors and got a script for Diane 35. I have been on Diane now for almost 4 months and my skin is far from clear but not terrible. My back and chest have cleared up - that happened around 1-2 months of being back on Diane 35, so not too bad. But my face is not clearing as quickly. I am getting cystic pimples on my jaw and chin and have lots of tiny little bumps on my chin and cheeks. I definitely feel as though it gets worse before it gets better, I don't remember exactly how long it took last time for my skin to clear. I just remember it being a while. I'm anticipating around the 6 month mark that I should hopefully see a decent improvement. I know there are a lot of scary stories out there about this pill but for me the benefits outweigh the risks. I am lucky enough not to experience any major side effects but of course there is always risk associated with any type of medication.

Worked for acne, not worth the side effects.
It took a while but my acne did almost completely clear up by the end of my third package. Too bad it made my period last the whole three months. After I stopped because the side effects were too bad, my period got heavier and proceeded for another week (in which time my acne also returned). I was excited when my doctor prescribed it to me with the promising notion that my period may get better. And for some people it does. But I was not warned about the chance of an abnormally, frustratingly long period. Which turns out to be common. So my doctor told me AFTER a long three months of constant anxiety and confusion. Conclusion: This pill worked for my acne. But be warned that side effects DO occur. And consult a doctor as soon as you experience any worrying ones (I waited far too long because I was far too hopeful).
