Pros:

Clears skin

Cons:

Increased moodiness, almost non-existent sex drive, irritability (almost to the point that my boyfriend of 2 years might break up with me)- maybe this is not linked to Dianette, but I have a feeling it is.

I had used this for a couple of years from 18-20. Then I came off it and switched to Yasmin. My spots returned so I went back on Dianette in 2005. I've lost my spark, the spring in my step and I feel melancholic for no real reason. My spots affected me badly, so much so that I'd find myself not going out to social occassions. Now that my spots are gone, I find myself not WANTING to go out because I feel moody and almost apathetic and numb-it's like I don't feel ANYTHING sometimes. I have a doctor's appointment next week for a repeat prescription of Dianette but I'm seriously considering asking for a change in pill. I know I'll get my spots back though, so it's a vicious circle :(

I was prescribed dianette at 14 as a treatment for acne & irregular, very heavy periods. It sorted everything out. I rarely got spots, my moods were stable, my periods still quite heavy but regular and shorter and I lost weight. However, nobody informed me of the side effects. I did get headaches, but the main problem was a cervical ectropian at 17 due to the increase in estrogen, requiring surgery. Apparently quite a common side effect of Dianette according to my surgeon. Further, I was told I had a protein S deficiency & Dianette was potentially lethal. I was told this after 7 years of taking it. I had also tried Cilest for 3 months which left me with crippling pains, and microgynon did the same thing. I had to come off Dianette (or risk death) & my skin has returned to its previous spotty state. I know Dianette is great for skin, and I do miss how my skin used to be, but specialists say NO to it - it messes u up in ways u dont realise until it's too late to do anything about it.

Pros:

Clearer skin, increased confidence.

Cons:

weight gain

Have been using Dianette on and off for almost ten years, have taken my third 6 month break at the request of a doctor. This has resulted in Extreme mood swings, headaches and acne appearing on my face, back and neck. I have never experinced such servere feelings on stopping the tablets before.. Has anyone else experienced this before whilst withdrawing from Dianette? Im truly shocked to read about all the side-effects that people are having and worry that i have ruined my chances of ever having children in the future due to prolonged use of Dianette.

Pros:

Cleared up my face perfectly. I don't wear any make-up on a daily basis any more!

Cons:

I feel moody, depressed, emotional, I have no sex drive, I can't cope with simple stresseful things.

I've been taking Dianette for nearly a year now and my skin is perfect. I'm so happy with it that I have a totally renewed confidence, and put my make-up away! But, I've just come to university and I can't cope. I want to go home and I cry all the time. My boyfriend is feeling offended because I have no sex drive at all and no lubrication, which makes me sore after sex. I can't get on with my work without wishing I could leave uni every second. I miss my mum and dad so much more than I should. Thank god it's only a one year course. Next time I'm at home, I'm seeing my doctor and getting taken off this stuff. I want to be horny again!

Pros:

My skin improved dramatically on Dianette, not only my facial acne but also the acne on my back.Thinking about going back on it for my skin as it has gone back to be really bad.

Cons:

Weight gain and cellulite! Has anyone else noticed an increase in cellulite from Dianette?

In two minds about it - really tired of having an awful skin on my face and back but not sure whether i want the weight gain, loss of libido and cellulite that i get from Dianette.

Pros:

don't know

Cons:

awful mood swings

decided to go on the pill when I moved in with my boyfriend last month, Doc recommended Dianette as at 28 still have bad skin. Was weary, but after only 12 days, I haven't stopped crying and have been a psychotic demon. Period lasted full week, and still have a show, have had terrible cramps since day one. Have been a blubbering wreck, and just not myself at all! Have decided to change to Yasmin, which will start tomorrow, so fingers crossed that will stop the tears!!! Don't think the boyfriend could cope with me like this much longer!! lol !!! I've no doubt its successful for many, but definitely not for me. Have suffered with depression in the past, and explained this as a concern to my gp when deciding which option to go for, but he thought i'd be fine!! Wish there was some kind of test that could be done in advance to test your hormone levels first to see which one will effect the seratonin levels, as this could be dangerous to those who are vulnerable

i went on dianette when i was 18 as my skin had just exploded with acne and it worked amazingly but i came off it last feb as i thought it was to blame for my bad moods, which in retrospect was down to stress and other things going on in my life. when i came off it my skin was worse then ever and this has made me feel worse than any of the moods i ever had with dianette and nothing else that i have used in the mean time has been any use for me. at 21 i do not want to be putting up with acne and for this reason i am going back on dianette. i am at the stage that i do not want to go out in public because of my skin. i dianette is not working for you then dont stay on it as i know it does not agree with some people but i have found it to work for me. x

Awful acne and mood swings

I was prescribed Dianette for my acne a few months ago and I regret ever starting it. For one, my acne is worse than it’s ever been and I finished the second pack last week. I know people say it takes a few months and it gets worse before better but I’d never have started it if I knew this as it wasn’t that bad before!

It also completely changed me as a person, from someone who’s motivated and generally a happy person to having suicidal thoughts. Mainly during the second pack, I felt myself sink into such a low mood where I didn’t want to even get up in the morning. I felt like a cloud was constantly over me, I got snappy at the smallest things and cried almost everyday and my family and friends all noticed. I felt hopeless and honestly didn’t see the point in living. I also had 0 sex drive which isn’t great for a new relationship and felt I was even beginning to turn on my boyfriend. I was basically isolating myself and falling out with everyone around me!

I stopped this pill 5 days ago, I’m on the 7 day break but I will NOT resume taking it. 5 days without it I feel I’ve found my old self again! Today I went my first run in weeks since I had the energy to go, I found myself smiling more than I have in months and my mind is so much clearer. I even cried with happiness when I realised I was singing to songs on the radio!

I’m hoping my skin will clear up eventually, it’s only on my right jaw line and I’m using EpiDuo cream and a skincare regime as well as having cut our dairy, refined sugar and caffeine. Don’t get me wrong I’d have loved dianette to have cleared my skin eventually without those awful side effects but I hear it comes back worse than ever once you stop taking it (in the uk it’s only prescribed for a short time eg 6 months) so it’s only a temporary fix. It’s definitely not worth it and I’d strongly advise anyone who’s thinking of taking it to think of an alternative.

GOT WORST BEFORE IT GOT BETTER - VERY HONEST REVIEW

So I wanted to write a review because I was really struggling to find a review that matched what I was going through whilst taking dianette. I'm 24 and have suffered with acne since my teens, I always knew it was hormonal but wanted to try everything first before I decided to take dianette. Here comes the honest part. My skin got extremely worst as soon as I started taking it, within the first few weeks it got super red and blotchy and I had these painful cystic spots everywhere, especially on my chin which I had never had before! It was just awful and I felt like I couldn't leave the house. This carried on for the first 4 months with no sign of getting better at all. I even considered coming off it. Anyways I am now on my fifth month and all of a sudden my skin is clearer than ever! I am still for some reason experiencing redness which almost looks like roscaea (especially when i exercise etc) I never use to get this before but I'd take that over acne any day. Anyways my skin felt like it improved over night but it definitely took a lot of patience and emotional pain. Its important to remember that this pill effects everyone differently but if like me you have tried everything else I would say give it a go as long as you are willing to experience the side effects and push through to at least 6 months to see if it can help you! I feel a lot more confident now and am hoping to stay on it for a bit longer whilst I am in my twenties. Have hope. :symbols_v1_2:
