Pros:

Once a day.
Clears big, painful acne.
Takes 3 months for comlpetely clear skin.

Cons:

My insurance doesn't cover it.
Can only get through Rx.
Not sure if it's harming my body in the long-run, being an antibiotic.

Wish I was put on this years ago! My deep painful, red embarrassing pimples :) I mail in a pamplit to the company and they mail me the meds, I wish my insurance covered it, I have to switch to a generic brand next month, I hope it works just as well. I'm 22 and have acne since 12 and never got better, only more severe. O happy to have gone on this!

Pros:

Clears up Acne...Great product

Cons:

Extreme flare-ups after discontinuing taking product...Hives

My Solodyn dosage recently increased from 80g's to 105g's. It works great, however it does cause Hives, but I'd rather have hives than acne.

Pros:

Drying out large cystic pimples on chin
Saw results in a week
Minimal side effects
Easy to take

Cons:

Making my face a bit dry
A little fatigue first couple days of taking but goes away

I am a 23 year old female and I have been suffering with very bad and painful hormonal cystic pimples on my chin. It was very frustrating when one would pop up right after another. My dermatologist gave me a number of topical prescriptions but none of them seemed to be doing anything to help. He then prescribed me 55mg of Solydyn and I have been taking it for 6 days now and I can already tell it's been helping to dry out my large pimples. Everyone is different so I would not be so hesitant if you are considering taking this as I was pretty worried about all the negative reviews, but I have been giving it a go and so far it's not so bad :) It is true that when you first start taking it, it pushes all of your pimples forward so it can get rid of them fast, so for a couple days I had several all at once on my chin, but that is just because the medicine is working and is pushing everything out and clearing underneath your skin. Also, I live in Illinois so it's very dry and cold here in the winter which is a cause for the extra dry skin I'm having along with Solodyn, but there's a multitude of lotions out there to help. All in all, this has been a so-far-so-good medicine for my acne and I am anxious to see what it will do within the coming weeks. Good luck everyone!

Pros:

Moderately clears with inital usage.

Cons:

Causes additional breakouts. Causes darkening of the skin and finger nails. Does not clear cystic ance at all.

I am a 42 year old African American woman, who has been on Solodyn for 12 months in conjuction with a topical cream (Differin). During the first 3 months I had moderate clearing however, I started having breakouts in spots that were previously clear. In addition to the new breakouts I developed a rash around my neck during the first three months. Once I got off the drug my breakouts got worse than they had ever been before. This drug may work for some but it truly is not for everyone. I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay on it beyond six months if they are not satified with the results. I was hopeful that it would eventually clear my acne but after a year of use I had to give up on it.

Pros:

Clears up Acne Great
Works Well
Reasonably Priced

Cons:

Takes a Bit to Work
I Had to Learn How to Take a Pill
Had to Use 88mg Pills

Yes, use it! It worked for me! Although, i did have to learn how to take a pill ( i am extremely healthy, never needed pills before)i have pretty bad acne and this cleared it up, although it took 2-3 weeks. I am still pretty young, so my mom pays for it, i have no clue of the cost!

Pros:

pretty cheap (I got a card from the derm. from the manufacturer)
worked a little at first

Cons:

Doesn't work anymore
Used to give me headaches/dizziness
Used to make me sensitive to the sun
never completely cleared skin

I was prescribed this medication almost a year ago and I've been taking it all along. It started to clear up my skin but never completely and it seemed as if you start to get an immunity to it. I hard moderately severe acne. Especially on my back. It did help my back tons! and my back completely cleared, but like i said after a few months it started coming back. I was also using clindamyacin phosphate lotion and a benzoyl peroxide wash on my back, so maybe that's really what cleared my back. They clindamyacin was basically supposed to help the scarring on my back which it did, but it also felt sort of oily. I stopped taking it about 2 months ago because I wanted to try birth control and This interferes with Birth control. The birth control isn't working at all for the acne. I'm going to the derm. this week and I'm going to try to get a better topical treatment. sodium sulfacetamide maybe?

Pros:

Totally cleared me up and had no dryness or reaction at all. Struggled with my skin all my life and now it's dependably clear. Won't ever go off this stuff! And using the discount card makes it extremely inexpensive, ie, $10 at the most for a month's supply.

Cons:

None at all.

Couldn't be happier.

Pros:

this seemed to suppress deep lesions. my new acne looks as if they were smaller than the ones i had a few months ago.

Cons:

but, even if it seems to suppress deeper, painful acne, and prevent them from forming, i still would get other types of lesions. i am still on this! my derm increased the dosage yet the other day broke out with 6 new pimples. my existing pimples are still here. they are now overlapping. i have every intention of changing to something more effective.

i hate this product because it is ineffective. i was on it for 3-4 months. i was kept on it one more month because i told the derm that it may be helping, so she decided to see for one month, this was a mistake. a very large mistake, because it did NOT help in preventing my comedones from flaring up and preventing the surrounding skin to become inflamed with disgusting lesions. god i'm so angry!!!

Pros:

Doesn't upset my stomach as other antibiotics have in the past. Only have to take it once a day. Seems to work for me.

Cons:

Expensive as my insurance puts it at the highest co-pay.

Suffered from acne off and on since high school and am 35 YO now. Use Solodyn, Benzaclin and Retin-A. Not sure which has done the trick but been clear for a few months now, except for the occ. pimple around my period. Had been using Clindamycin but tried Benzaclin to clear up the whiteheads on my forehead. Benzaclin has cleared them up but my face super dry and even the DML didn't help even though usu. have oily skin. Started to wash my face only at night (Cetaphil for oily skin) and use the Benzaclin as a spot treatment and preventive on my t-zone. Also cut back on the dairy, switched to organic milk for my cereal and stopped eating soy. My acne is hormonal and stress-related so believe it or not but think yoga helps me too. Not only does it relieve my stress but I think the breathing is cleansing. I still have bumpy scars around my mouth but hope they'll reduce over time. Also had two chem peels by Dr. but not convinced they help.
