Pros:

I haven't broken out in a little under a month

Cons:

It took a few weeks to really start working

This pill is easy to take and really works. People complain it smells bad but come on, you don't have to stick your nose in the thing all day it takes two seconds to swallow.

Not Happy
I was prescribed 500mg 2x/day with a 30 day prescription, which seems pretty standard according to these reviews but is a long time for antibiotics! My stomach is sensitive to medication at times, so I took every precaution when taking this. I only took it with meals, and I added probiotics and extra yogurt in my diet. I didn't notice any side effects within the first week, but I also didn't see any improvements. Most of my acne is on my chin/jawline, and they're usually painful. During this time, one of the aggravated cysts started to hurt less, but that's part of the natural cycle anyway, and another one appeared on my jaw. But on the 8th day of taking this medication--oh my god. I woke up feeling very nauseous, before I had even taken the medication. I assumed it wasn't a big deal, ate breakfast and took my first dose of the day. Over the course of the day, my nausea and sour stomach got worse. It was like a hangover, but I hadn't consumed any alcohol. I wasn't hungry, I had cold sweats and I was very, very tired. By 7/8 pm I was so nauseous and I had to commute back from work and by 10pm I was in bed with the lights off trying not to throw up (but I hadn't eaten anything)! I didn't take my evening dose, and by the next morning I was 100% better. My derm was not very helpful when he prescribed this to me--he was very dismissive and didn't really offer me any other options besides the topical meds that haven't worked for me in the past. I'm seeing a new doctor soon, because I've been really disappointed with the dismissive nature of dermatologists. Don't take this if you're sensitive to antibiotics, because even doing everything right, I had terrible side effects.

It is recommended that you wait at least 2 hours between antibiotics and probiotics. However, if you want the antibiotics to work unchallenged, wait to start up probiotic after all antibiotics have been taken.

Pros:

acne much better than without any treatment

Cons:

does not clear my acne completely

without treatment, I would get deeper and more painful acne in more places on my face. with cephalexIn, I don't get as many of those, but I still get some, and I still have less severe acne in a number of places on my face and body. for someone looking to clear their acne completely, this might not be a perfect fit

Pros:

It works quickly.

Cons:

Not a great idea treating your whole body to target on problem area.

Works really well for me. I have cystic acne on occasion and in a few days it is cleared up. I have been on Accutane three different times. (I'm 34 M) I've never had side effects from it but obviously that's not an option anymore. Trying the Blue Light treatment as well.

Pros:

This medication helped prevent infection around stitches at the same time it cleared a cough, and cleared some of my acne. This is the second time an antibiotic of this kind has worked so well on both my skin and in my lungs. The first one was Ceclor

Cons:

The particular kind I have requires that I take it 4 times a day, which is hard to keep up with. It does smell horrible, but in a capsule, I don't have to smell it long.

Some people on the forum sound like they have had allergic reaction to it, and this worsened their condition as it irritated their skin, but overall, this antibiotic and Ceclor come with the highest recommendations from me. My acne was never very severe, so I wonder why some doctors were hesitating to give it to patients who did not have "cystic" acne, when it seemed to work so well on me. Maybe the risks outweigh the benefits with a strong antibiotic on the overall health of the body, when it comes to treating less severe cases. I do not know. I wish you all the best of luck.

Pros:

Works very well for acne, very cheap compared to other methods of acne treatments.

Cons:

Smells horrible, Tastes bad

This is a very good drug for acne. Although it may not work for everyone, no one drug works for everyone. This drug is used to treat acne because Acne is a bacterial infection for all of the people who don't understand why it is used to treat acne.

Pros:

I take a 500 mg capsule two times a day. In the six months I've taken Cephalexin, I haven't noticed a huge difference.

Cons:

For six months, I have had spontaneous bouts of nausea -- and my skin hasn't really cleared up that much.

Eh, try it. It might work for you. It might not.

Pros:

Cleared up my skin beautifully, inexpensive.

Cons:

Bad smell, long time use caused gastrointestinal problems.

If you don't have anything else to try (including a topical antibiotic), give this a try. It works. I was on it for three years, and it ultimately wreaked havoc on my stomach. I've been suffering with gastritis and other issues since I've been on it. I finally had to stop taking it, and switch to a topical antibiotic.
