Pros:

It works and is very affordable

Cons:

Sorry this was not prescribed to me 45 years ago.

I have had mild/moderate acne my entire life. This is the first thing ever that has worked consistently. I just take it for 14 days when I start getting a bad breakout, and then after it clears, I wait to take it again when I start to break out again. Girls, absolutely eat a cup of yogurt everyday while taking this if you are one to get yeast infections. I also recently started taking a zinc supplement and these seems to help keep me clear after I finished my last dose of cephalexin. Also, I do not have prescription insurance and I get it for $5.80 at Kroger.

Pros:

Clears acne very well for me as long as I take the medication. I tried the brand name KEFLEX

Cons:

acne returns a few months after I stop the medication

guess everyone is different...I have tried accutane as well and it took a few years for my acne to return (but it costs a lot more + blood work)

Pros:

alternative for acne treatment when proactive/topical treatments don't work

Cons:

bad smell/taste, can be expensive, can cause irritation or stomach upset

Try it. if nothing else has worked you should at least give it a try. THIS IS A MEDICATION PRESCRIBED FOR ACNE TREATMENT. don't be fooled. acne is a bacterial infection, therefore an antibiotic can help. ask your doctor if this might be right for you. everyone is different so it may or may not be the right thing for you.

Pros:

I was put on it last year and all my acne went away if I took it religiously. I had cystic acne and it all went away. Unfortunately during November of 2008 my acne started coming back around my mouth. My doctor told me I had perioral dermatitis and I

Cons:

It doesn’t start working instantly, and when I take it, I burp and it tastes bad. It’s totally worth it though. You don’t need to change your whole life to take this medicine.

This pill worked wonders for me and I am thrilled to be back on it. Everyone is different, but hopefully it works for you :) Just remember to stay positive and consistent. You will get through this :)

Pros:

Affordable, can take with or without food- which is very convenient and easy on my stomach. I dont suffer w/typical acne, I have cystic acne- severe swelling and very painful. The medication reduced the swelling in the nodules/cyst w/in 2 days.

Cons:

Cephalexin reduced the swelling to an extent, however I didn't see a whole lot of improvement after that. **Did not eliminate the swelling completely but made a difference in the very large cyst**

Reduces the bacteria in the pores which reduces the swelling of the nodules. However, Ive been on 500mg 2x a day (I've taken religiously) for 11 days and the same nodules/cyst are here and new ones have formed BUT they are not as large as before. In the past I've taken Doxcycline for the same problems and it helped tremendously. Eliminated the nodules and prevented others. I will finish this Rx (another 9 days) and then ask my doc for the Doxcycline. *We tried this one first b/c it's not hard on my stomach and does not make me sensitive to the sun as Doxcycline does. **For women who suffer w/cystic acne- see your gynocolegist it could be hormone related- especially if the nodules are on your chin or forehead. I suffer w/ovarian cyst which effect my hormones causing these terrible sporadic breakouts.

Pros:

Almost gets you there.

Cons:

Smell.

I'm actually unsure wethere my face is clearing up due to these pills or if it's the Differen cream because I was prescribed both at once. This was the first think my derm prescribed to me, back when I was thirteen. It had no effect and gave me TERRIBLE stomach aches every single morning. Two years later my derm decided we should re-try this after some other medicine messed with my white blood cell count. This go around I have no stomach pain and while my face isn't clear it's at least better, this after only a few weeks.

Pros:

*does help improve skin a little
*does not affect your stomach

Cons:

*threat of yeast infections
*meant to treat other illness or infections - NOT skin

I was prescribed this for 10 days after I burned my face to prevent infection. My skin was fairly clear prior to taking this (from being on doxycyclin), but I think it did maintain and improve my skin a bit. I didn't stay on it for fear of getting a yeast infection. Overall, I would advise getting something else (like doxycyclin), which is meant to treat acne. There are too many risks in taking cephalexin for extended periods of time for acne.

Pros:

Works great for me!

Cons:

Smelly pills. Can cause some stomach discomfort if taken on an empty stomach. If I take it with food, no problems!

I had mild acne throughout high school and tried many different Rxs... I have allergies to almost all antibiotics so my options were somewhat limited, but this was the only med that cleared me up (nothing topical ever worked). I was off of it for several years and right around 21 I broke out worse than ever before. I went back on cephalexin and my acne cleared up within a month. I am 24 now and still on b/c I am scared to break out again if I stop. Wanted to make sure my skin stayed good for my wedding last year! Since my skin has been clear (aside from an occasional period pimple) for quite some time I am gradually reducing my dosage... Also, in addition I only use facial products w/out fragrance and wear mineral makeup which probably also helps... BTW: To the individual who said this is for bacterial infections, not acne: ACNE IS A BACTERIAL INFECTION! Do your research!
