Pros:

got rid of blackheads in my nose completely
help get rid of most of my acne

Cons:

it is too pasty, hard to apply all over face, hard to take it off in the morning, my skin was dried and flaky for the first month, then it was ok.

I recommend it. My doctor told me it takes 3 to 6 months until my skin clears up completely and so I used it for a whole year. It did work for me, I had to stop buying it because I couldn't afford more treatment, and acne came back to how it was before the whole treatment. I used it with differin after letting the Erythromycin dry for 15 minutes (didn't wash it off,) let it all night and washed it off the next morning. If you can afford it and your doctor prescribes this medication, use it, but be patient as it takes sometimes 6 months for your skin to clear up completely (depends on your type of skin, severity of acne...) You might breakout more the first week or so. It is normal, all the bacteria inside your skin is getting out. After those zits come out, the treatment should start working. Good luck!!!

Pros:

USED ANTIBIOTICS. it did really help my skin; after about 5 weeks, i could see a significant difference. redness went down a lot.

Cons:

the big marks went down but i still have lots of little spots. i've had 2 big outbreaks and the raised spots seem to be coming back, so i think my body must just be getting immune to it.

good, but we'll see after 12 weeks .. maybe this is just a bad week.

Pros:

Works wonders on cystic acne...almost completely cleared my face for about a year. the best oral antibiotic that i ever used

Cons:

extreme upset stomach and GI problems are common, I felt sick a lot and both diarehea and constipation and the drug stopped working after about a year.

i recomend it for anyone who has tried everything but still too scared of accutane. but u will most likely feel a bit sick on this drug.

Pros:

Erythromycin cream: Worked well in the beginning, not irritating on skin.
Erythromycin pills: Worked very well and also fast.

Cons:

Erythromycin cream: stopped working after a few months.
Erythromycin pills: Had the impression that if had a negative effect on my digestion.

Hard to say. Just like anything else (except for Accutane) both only work while you take/use them. As soon as you are off, your acne will most likely return. As to the Erythromycin pills: It seems strange to me that my dermatologists here in Germany have said I should not take them longer than 4 Weeks, which makes it only valuable as a short term remedy for someone really suffering from their skin condition and who needs immediate help. After what I have read on this website, it seems like dermatologists in the US prescribe it to people for the duration of several months, which also seems strange to me as I had the impression of digestive problems after only a few weeks. Erythromycin cream: Seems like long term usage is not dangerous. But with me, the initial positive effect on my acne stopped after a few month. Bottom Line: Both can help you, but only for a limited period of time. Maybe good for "teenage-acne", but not for long-term/post-teen patients. ps: Both cheap (in

Pros:

I have used the Erythromycin 500 mg tablets for a week now which has made a bit of a difference, but not great. Basicallly now my spots still appear, with the pigmentation, although the improvement is that they do not get as imflammed as before.

Cons:

None so far, apart from the fact that spots still come up.

I will keep posting should there be any further changes. Prescription medication, so in the UK costs about £6 = $12

Pros:

Erythromicin tabs - works well at taking down redness and cystic acne. Also good at reducing frequency of blackheads and whiteheads. Safe for use during pregnancy (under advice of OB)
Erythromicin topical - none

Cons:

Erythromicin tabs - doesnt completely take away acne. Do not see some results until about three weeks on the tabs
Erythromicin topical - for people with sensitive skin this is too strong. Severe peeling and redness.

My acne started flaring up again after coming off birth control pills (that contain a close cousin of spironolactone that controlled my acne)to try and become pregnant (I was on them for 10 years). (never had more than mild acne before). Started to get cystic acne on my chin after about 3 months off the pill. Had to get cortosone injections almost weekly. Then when I got pregnant, forget it! I got HORRIBLE cystic acne on my chin, severe redness everywhere and moderate acne on my cheeks. SO EMBARASSING! I tried every topical medication out there and NOTHING worked. The only thing that has worked so far is oral erythromicin (which is safe to take during pregnancy). I have been on it three weeks now and I have seen a drastic reduction in the cystic acne & redness. I still have moderate acne on the sides of my chin & on my cheeks (& scars) but nothing compared to before. My fear is that as soon as I come off of it (my doc will only keep me on it for a month at a time)it will come back.

Pros:

prescribed for an infected insect bite but after a few days, noticed skin had cleared, and also a cartilage piercing infection is clearing

Cons:

horrible stomach aches and diarrhea, also chest pains

as someone who's skin is not too bad and is having bad stomach reactions, i'd say its worth a try but if you experience any problems, leave well alone

Pros:

It did clear up most of my face only a few spots on chin/cheek none on my forehead! but didnt clear up spots on back/arms/chest/neck. its free on NHS.

Cons:

they flare back up when you come off it and i seemed to sweat more on these tablets and i never used to sweat under my arms!

These tablets are good esp short term but they are no long term soloution they do work but my skin still wasnt flawless and i still couldnt use products on my skin as i would flare up. My gp left me on these tablets for about 2 years although i tried to change to a different antibiotic my skin got worse so went back on these.Only problem is as soon as you come off them spots return and you build up a resistance to them.

Pros:

none.

Cons:

people with severe acne should not take this.

i'm sorry but i had to take this because in order to take accutane, you must have had to fail with 2 previous oral medications, and i had to take this. and NOPE it did not work at all. took accutane and THAT worked.
