Pros:

Works wonders on cystic acne...almost completely cleared my face for about a year. the best oral antibiotic that i ever used

Cons:

extreme upset stomach and GI problems are common, I felt sick a lot and both diarehea and constipation and the drug stopped working after about a year.

i recomend it for anyone who has tried everything but still too scared of accutane. but u will most likely feel a bit sick on this drug.

Pros:

Sometimes it dried up a couple pimples

Cons:

Had to keep it in the fridge, dried out my skin to the point of cracking and bleeding, and after a couple months it no longer would do anything for my pimples

The cream did nothing for me and hurt my skin in the long run. Try something else.

Pros:

Erythromycin cream: Worked well in the beginning, not irritating on skin.
Erythromycin pills: Worked very well and also fast.

Cons:

Erythromycin cream: stopped working after a few months.
Erythromycin pills: Had the impression that if had a negative effect on my digestion.

Hard to say. Just like anything else (except for Accutane) both only work while you take/use them. As soon as you are off, your acne will most likely return. As to the Erythromycin pills: It seems strange to me that my dermatologists here in Germany have said I should not take them longer than 4 Weeks, which makes it only valuable as a short term remedy for someone really suffering from their skin condition and who needs immediate help. After what I have read on this website, it seems like dermatologists in the US prescribe it to people for the duration of several months, which also seems strange to me as I had the impression of digestive problems after only a few weeks. Erythromycin cream: Seems like long term usage is not dangerous. But with me, the initial positive effect on my acne stopped after a few month. Bottom Line: Both can help you, but only for a limited period of time. Maybe good for "teenage-acne", but not for long-term/post-teen patients. ps: Both cheap (in

Pros:

I have used the Erythromycin 500 mg tablets for a week now which has made a bit of a difference, but not great. Basicallly now my spots still appear, with the pigmentation, although the improvement is that they do not get as imflammed as before.

Cons:

None so far, apart from the fact that spots still come up.

I will keep posting should there be any further changes. Prescription medication, so in the UK costs about £6 = $12

Pros:

It's clear, dries fairly quickly, does not overdry the skin

Cons:

When I put face lotion on overtop it, it like clumps into white clumps and I have to pick them off my face. It's strange.

This product is not working for me at all. I used to use Duac but that lost its effectiveness so my doctor put me on 2% Erythromycin topical gel, and I've only been using it for like 5 days, but it's only made my skin worse. Should I give it time? Do any of you guys know if this is the type of medicine that makes skin worse before it gets better? I don't know what to do.

Pros:

...covered by insurance

Cons:

none

Okkkayy i have had moderate acne since i was 11, and my dermatologist has prescribed jsut about everything (well, actually jsut one or 2 creams and 2 oral pills, because she treated my brother too (SEVERE acne) and knew that if she did not find a cream within a few tries it was pointless to go beating around the bush) so this is my last resort before Accutain. I have taken it for about 3/4 months, and it has done NOTHIGN to me. absolutly NOTHING. but i heard it works for some people, so give it a try i guess.

Pros:

Does not dry out your skin. Reduces the apperance of inflamation.

Cons:

Takes a while to adjust to stomach. First few days are uncomfortable.

You will see results in as soon as 3 days! I have had acne now for four years, I tried cleansers and other anti biotics and this one is the best! It is truly a miracle!

Pros:

Helps make popped pimples heal faster

Cons:

doesn't do anything to prevent pimples from forming
smell is very strong
tube goes pretty fast

**NOTE** this review is for the GEL, not the oral tablets. Luckily, it didn't dry me out or make my skin flaky like it did to some people. But, after a month I am barely seeing any improvement anymore, I am still breaking out ...although it does help for pimples that are just popped, like a spot treatment. Make them turn to a scab and flake off faster. But i need something to help prevent pimples form forming, which this does nothing for!
